Adapting

I crossed the entrance gate and I noticed that I do not remember where my dormitory is. I am carrying my luggage if... Suddenly, a loud announcement boomed through the school's PA system, jolting me out of my thoughts. "Attention all first-year students! Please gather in the school playground which is east of the main gate, immediately. This is a mandatory meeting."

I hesitated for a moment, wondering whether I should go straight to my dorm room or attend the meeting. But my curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to follow the crowd toward the playground.

As I approached the playground, I was amazed by its size. It was large enough to hold a football match, and there were already a lot of students gathered there. I made my way toward the outskirts of the crowd, searching for a spot where I could observe from a distance.

I think there are almost 160 students as in our school there are four classes with forty students in each (1A, 1B, 1C and 1D). It is like what you're thinking, the elites are in 1A and dummies are in 1D.

As I stood there, trying to take in all the new surroundings, a man's voice suddenly interrupted my thoughts. He asked everyone to quiet down and pay attention because the principal was about to address us.

A few moments later, the principal walked up to the stage, and the crowd fell silent. He began to speak, welcoming us to the school and outlining the rules and regulations. He talked about the importance of discipline, punctuality, and regular attendance. As he spoke, I couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed by the enormity of the task ahead of me.

He then said, "You will be given a phone but you can't contact your family or relatives. There is a map icon on the phone which give you access to the map of the campus. The school has an area of 40 kms. You can go back as soon as you get the phone."

The school officials had already started giving us the phones. As I received the phone. I checked the map and noticed that many students already started leaving.

I also made my way toward my dorm room. My room no. is 149, it is on the top floor of the first year's building. My room is sufficient for me. There is a desk, a chair, a closet, a kitchen with all the necessary items, and a bed.

I slowly began to unpack my belongings, placing my clothes in the closet and my books on the desk. One message popped out from my phone. I quickly glance at the message on my phone and realize that I have an hour before I need to head to class. I take a deep breath and start unpacking my luggage, placing all my belongings in their designated spots in the small dorm room. I had always been a neat and organized person, so unpacking was a breeze for me.

I think I shall take a shower. Normally I do not take shower quickly but before coming here I did not take... So I shall take it now. After taking shower I wore my school dress and I lay on the bed with my phone in my hand.

This phone is the same as any other phone but when I opened my Instagram or youtube I was unable to comment on posts. I realized what the principal meant by "we are cut off from the entire world."

I opened my school map. As I scrolled through the map on my phone, I was amazed by the sheer size of the school and the range of facilities it had to offer. In addition to the classrooms and dormitories, there were also restaurants, a cinema hall, a playground, a dance club, and even a market! I couldn't believe that a school could have all of these things, and I was excited to explore and discover everything it had to offer.

I quickly checked the map to locate my classroom, 1D and made my way there. As I walked through the hallways, I feel a sense of nervousness and excitement.

It was my first day of school and I didn't know anyone yet. I walked down the rows of desks, scanning for my seat.

I glanced down at a desk and saw my name written neatly on a small placard. It was a nice touch and made me feel like I belonged here. I looked up and saw that I was in the first row, at the very back of the class. It was the perfect spot for me, as I loved having a view of the entire room.

It is a very good spot as there is a window by my side that looks out onto the school campus, providing a nice view during boring lectures.

I checked my phone and noticed that it was already 10:50 am. Most of the students had arrived in the classroom and were busy chatting with their friends, while a few others were going through their textbooks. I looked around the classroom and tried to spot the person who would be sitting next to me, but they were nowhere to be seen.

Just as I was lost in my thoughts, the classroom door opened, and a girl walked in. I immediately recognized her from the airport; she was the tall, slender girl with jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes.

She walked down the aisle, and my heart skipped a beat when she sat down beside me. I tried not to stare, but I couldn't help but notice how beautiful she looked. She was wearing the same school dress as the other girls, and her hair was tied up in a neat bun. She smiled at me, and I felt my cheeks turning red.

I couldn't help but feel a little nervous. I had always been an introvert and didn't usually strike up conversations with strangers easily. But something about her made me want to talk to her.

"Hi," I said tentatively, hoping to break the ice. "I'm Rachit."

She looked up from her phone and smiled. "Hi, Rachit. I'm Samiksha."

"Do you happen to remember me, Samiksha?" I asked.

"Of course, I saw you at the airport," she replied.

I nodded with a smile. "Yes, that's me. It's nice to see you again, Samiksha."

She smiled back at me. "Likewise, Rachit. I didn't expect to see you here, in the same class as me."

I chuckled. "Me neither. It's a small world, isn't it?"

Samiksha nodded in agreement. "Definitely. I'm really glad we're in the same class, though. It's nice to know someone in a new place."

I agreed with her, feeling grateful for the familiar face in this new environment. "Yeah, it is. So, where are you from, Samiksha?"

"I'm from Nepal, actually," she said. "But I've been living with my aunt in Lucknow for the past few years."

I nodded, impressed. "That's really interesting. I've never been to Nepal, but I've heard it's a beautiful place."

Samiksha's eyes lit up. "Oh, it definitely is. The mountains, the culture, the people... it's all so amazing. You should definitely visit someday."

I smiled, already feeling intrigued by the idea. "I would love to. Maybe we can go together someday."

Samiksha grinned. "That would be great!"
