Wolf and Girl roused themselves from their positions at the foot of the porch and with wagging tails greeted them. Raj squealed happily and Carmella could clearly hear him say 'Woovie' and 'Gur'.
She crouched so that he could rub their fur and when his tentacles went to explore the animals the two seemed either not to take notice or not to care, just happy to be getting the attention from a set of hands willing to rub them.
She went to the barn, which in winter also served as the henhouse. After collecting nine eggs—a good amount considering most of the hens had stopped laying due to winter--she checked the waterer for ice and then grabbed a clean pail and milked the cow.
