77 Chapter 75

"It's for the best. I've overstayed my welcome." Dan said as he zipped the last of his belongings. He doesn't have much stuff to begin with so it wasn't that hard to gather everything.

Honestly, he doesn't know where he should go from here onwards. He couldn't go back to his apartment since he still doesn't know if Eric has settled things with those thugs he owed money from. If he goes back home, his grandparents would ask him what happened and he doesn't want to worry them. They had suffered so much already from taking him in.

He couldn't face Alex now or his family. He's not brave enough to see disappointment and contempt on their faces. After all, it was his fault. It was because of him that Dwight was able to hurt Alex. It was because of his carelessness. Alex's parents have treated him with kindness since they were young but they must have hated him now for bringing harm to their son.

Last night when he learned that his phone was used by Dwight to stalk on Alex and to lure him in, he felt so guilty. If he didn't ask Alex to wait for him, Dwight would not have a chance to assault him. It was all because of him.

He couldn't get it out of his mind, that seemingly lifeless and beat up body of his one and only friend. He couldn't imagine what would happen if that woman didn't forget her keys and helped him get out. If he wasn't able to get out of that room, Dwight might have been able to complete his evil deeds without anyone knowing.

He prayed and waited for the Doctor to treat Alex. He couldn't sit still until he knew Alex and the baby are safe. Once he confirmed that Alex and the baby were safe, he went back to the apartment to pack his belongings and leave. That's the least he could do for his friend and his family who treated him with so much kindness.

He should go before they ask him to leave.

He contacted one of the Omega he worked with at the bar before and Leo was willing to house him in for the meantime. He also said he'd help him find a job and a place in the countryside. It may not be what he wanted his life would be but it's better than hurting the people who had been nothing but kind to him.

Dan contemplated if he should leave a letter or something but decided against it. He grabbed his bags and scanned the whole place, ensuring no traces of him were left to remind Alex before heading out.

"Need a hand with those bags?"

Dan almost dropped his stuff when he suddenly heard Martin's voice. It caught him off guard that he stood there frozen at the sight of the Alpha.

"Thanks but no thanks." Dan replied and continued on his way.

"I can give you a ride to wherever you are planning to go." Martin asked but Dan ignored him. "Or were you going somewhere far with no intention of coming back?"

"It's none of your business. I can go anywhere I want." Dan hissed, he felt cornered and frustrated at being caught.

"Alex is looking for you."

"Tell him I was gone before you came here."

"Hmmm that would be a problem. I can't lie to my boss, my work is built with trust you know." Martin replied. He's now standing in front of Dan preventing him from leaving.

"Move. I need to go." Dan pleaded but the Alpha didn't budge. "Please let me through, I don't have the courage to see hatred in his eyes. He was my friend, my only friend and I was the reason he got hurt and almost lost his baby. So please let me through." Dan begged, crying.

"Don't you want to know the reason why Alex is looking for you?" Martin asked.

"I'm not interested. I really have to go so please move out of the way." Dan replied, tears streaming down his face.

"Well, how about you. Do you have anything to say to Alex? Maybe you are not interested about what he wanted to tell you but I bet you have something you want to say to him."

"I just want to apologize for everything. I'm really sorry." Dan fell on his knees dropping the bags in his hands. His hands are shaking, he can't help but tremble at the thought of Alex losing his baby or Alex getting raped by that scumbag Dwight. He indirectly let that almost happen and it scares him.

Martin knelt down on the floor and grabbed Dan's bags. "Why don't you say it to him personally? I will keep your bags in the car and if after your conversation with him and you still decide to leave, I will help you. I will make sure no one will find you. If that's what you want. I can make that happen."

Dan lifts his head up and looks Martin in the eye. He senses the seriousness in his words. He knew that he wasn't lying and that he would really do it for him.

"So, are you coming with me?" Martin offered his hand to Dan which the latter took. Martin helped him on his feet and carried his bags for him.

They drive silently to the hospital. Dan's thoughts were filled with things he won't be able to do, people he won't be able to meet after today. He would miss having lunch with Alex and listening to him brag about his married life. They would have a lively conversation about Alex's baby if the incident didn't happen. Lastly, there won't be moments like this, despite the silence he will never have the chance to see Martin like this. Not that he wanted to see the Alpha again, it's just that he made him comfortable and he saved him multiple times already.

"We're here." Martin announced, Dan didn't realize that the car had stopped already. "Do you need a moment before we head inside? You can take your time."

"No. It's better to end this sooner." Dan replied.

"Your bags will still be here when we get back." Martin said when Dan glanced at the car trunk as they headed inside of the hospital. "As I told you, I will take you anywhere you want after this. I will follow your wishes."

Dan almost bolted out of the room when he saw Alex's parents inside. He wasn't prepared to meet them. He felt so guilty that his feet won't move.

"Dan!"Helena called out and quickly walked towards the younger Omega. "I'm so glad you're safe as well." Helena said enveloping Dan in her warm embrace.

Dan tried to apologize but the words won't come out. He just cried from a mixture of guilt and relief. He was relieved that Alex and his family are not blaming him and at the same time the guilty feeling he has still won't go away.

"Mom, can Dan stay at my apartment for now?" Alex asked his mom. Since the cat is now out in the bag, he finally asked them for permission to let Dan stay in his apartment since he would now be staying at his husband's home.

"It.. It's alright. I'll find another place to stay. I don't want to trouble you too much." Dan declined.

"Don't be silly. You can stay there as long as you want. We already paid the lease for the whole year, regardless if you stay or not we can't recover that anymore so you might as well make use of that space. Besides you're like a son to us too." Helena replied smiling at Dan who just nodded.

Dan stayed silent as the whole family continued to chat and talk about Alex's baby. He sat there feeling overwhelmed with too much emotion.

"Hey.. easy.. are you okay?" Martin asked when Dan suddenly collapsed on the floor as they headed back to the car.

"Sorry…I'm… okay, my knees just gave out." Dan replied as Martin assisted him off his feet.

"Why do you think they would blame you for what happened?" Martin couldn't help but ask. He doesn't understand why Dan would think Alex would be mad at him when they are the best of friends. Besides he's also a victim in all of these.

"Because I'm an Omega. Someone like me who was abandoned by my own parents for being an Omega doesn't have the luxury to trust people that they won't throw me out once I fail their expectations. Alex's family welcomed me in their home and treated me like a normal human being but I am still an outsider. Their own son got hurt and I was a contributor to that even though involuntarily. So do you understand now where I'm coming from?"

"There are more people who see you for who you are. Don't let your gender rule your rationality."

Dan stared at Martin, he wanted to ask if he is one of the people who see him for who he is and not just him as an Omega, only to realize that Martin is hugging him and their faces are too close to each other. His heart starts beating loudly that he's scared the Alpha would hear it.

Dan closed his eyes when Martin slowed inch closer to him until there's almost no distance between them. He didn't know what to expect so he let himself be intoxicated by Martin's scent until he couldn't think of anything else anymore.

"Ahmm.. I think we should go." Martin suddenly said and distanced himself from Dan.

Dan felt so embarrassed that he turned red from his face all the way to his ears. Why did he even close his eyes in the first place? What were he expecting to happen?
