"The place still looks the same as always, no electricity and all the bad stuff. How could they pay this little attention to areas like this?" Ezra said to himself as he walked down the road.
His conclusion with Margaret was that his survival would remain as it is. Since he had already died once, then it should stay that way. As so, the children won't know that he is still alive, and Cassie would be in the same boat as them.
They had thought about it together, the outcome if he was to let the authorities and association know that he was still alive. It was sure to cause a storm and adding to the news of a dungeon killing people, the entire thing would just blow out of proportions.
There was also the fact that he would continue growing stronger as time went by, so bringing attention to himself at the moment was a bad move. He wasn't even A rank yet, so there were a lot of people out there that could easily kill him. If his secret was found out, he stood the chance of attracting malicious eyes towards him, and ultimately, towards those close to him.
'I would go to the government and propose some kind of deal, but they will only want to take advantage of me.' Ezra thought to himself. Now, the problem was the other party who had the second fragment of greed. If the other is not a bright one and gets attention on himself, then there would be problem for all parties involved.
Thinking about all these, Ezra couldn't help but feel the need to enter a high ranking dungeon and start killing monsters to level up. He could always become some bad guy and use the sin system to his advantage, but he still had his morals.
'I need to enter a dungeon soon.' Who would have thought that he would be the one asking to fight monsters one day?
The location Dustin was supposed to meet with the one Margaret contacted was at least somewhere between five and ten kilometres away, and he had to go by leg because he was still trying to be cautious.
'This should be the place.' Ezra said after arriving in front of a local restaurant.
At the moment, he had on him a thick ash coloured track trouser and a hoodie, nothing out of the ordinary. He shoes he got from the thugs the previous day also happened to fit well, and they seem a bit new too. Overall, he was looking quite normal and nothing was suspicious at all. He walked into the shop, and immediately recognized the one he came looking for.
The person Margaret had talked to over the phone was called Lee, and everyone called him small Lee, even though he was no longer a young fellow. Though his name may lead people to think he was of a certain ethnicity, he was far from it. Maybe his parents just watched too many kungfu movies.
"Excuse me, are you Lee?" Ezra asked after walking up the table with his hands in the pockets of his hoodie.
Lee was sitting with two other guys that were younger than him, but looked older than Ezra. Lee was probably in his mid-fifties or there about.
"What the fuck do you want?" One of them said, about to stand up. Though hunters were tough, only A rank and above could counter firearms. Those weapons don't work on most monsters, but hunters were different. Though not all, but it was a general rule not to even face a high B rank and above hunter with them.
'They are all hunters.' Said, Ezra, in his mind after sensing their energies. He could tell that he was much stronger than them, but he still couldn't compare what class he was, since he was yet to test it.
"No need to flare up, relax. You, you're probably the one Margaret spoke about, right?" Lee asked. He had a small figure, just like his name suggests.
-"Yeah."
"That's alright, relax. These are my boys, and part of the Gangdam Guild." Said, Lee. Ezra nodded without any verbal response, which the other two saw as disrespectful. It was clear off the bat that they would not be getting along.
"Come on, sit." Lee said. The other two were a bit reluctant to move for Ezra to sit, but since they were in a public place and didn't want to drag unnecessary attention, they complied.
Seeing all that was happening, Lee himself was a bit uncomfortable. Both with Ezra's reactions and performance, and his men. He just couldn't help but sigh.
"Look kid, try not to be too arrogant. It'll kill ya. Margaret said you are new to these parts, so you might not know how things work. Just be careful." Lee said, with a kind of light in his eyes.
-"Thank you, I can look after my head."
Lee and the other two looked at Ezra intently for a very brief moment. 'If it wasn't for Margaret, you punk would be dead.' Lee thought.
"Whatever, let's get straight to the point."
Ezra nodded. Before he continued, Lee introduced both young men to Ezra. The older one was Ron and the younger one was Von. Ezra actually thought they were brothers hearing their names, but it turned out to just be a coincidence. After hearing their surnames, he was even more convinced that they were not from the same part of the country.
"You'll be coming with me tomorrow morning, I'll pick you up from this place by 9am." Lee said, then went on to explain what he had planned.
Basically, Lee was somewhat of a leader in the underground scene, though, not one of the major leaders, just a small time one. Hos good luck comes from the fact that he knows quite some people in key positions in the government.
Now, although the Hunter's Association stands individually, they are part of the country and ultimately would answer to the country, it wasn't absolute. Also, even though hunters weren't everywhere on the street and many were awakened, those that were awakened were still plenty to some extent, and they stretch across different fields. Of course, those with E rank talent covered most of the list.
Naturally, it was evident that not only the association would have these hunters under them. The only trick was that all hunters needed to be registered before they could enter any dungeon or be recognized as one, or else, you would have to live as every other normal being. Even Ezra who used to be an F rank had to register.
"I'll test you myself, then depending on your pass mark, I would ask for an identity to be created for you with that rank. Lucky for you, I know someone who can do that." Lee said. This was after Ezra refused the option to go evaluate his rank at the association.
Lee didn't know why Ezra would need a fake ID, but even the Hunter's ID? He could smell trouble. But alas, Margaret was the one who asked.
