Abyss Holder

In the desolate urban sprawl, there existed a boy named Steven – a name as commonplace as the concrete beneath his worn-out shoes. His figure, terribly slender, bore the weight of days without sustenance, a stark reflection of the harsh life within the shadows of the towering skyscrapers. His disheveled appearance spoke of deprivation; his clothing, little more than rags haphazardly sewn together, clung to his meager frame. Steven's features, though obscured by grime, revealed a haunting contrast. His black hair, adorned with a few rebellious red strands, framed a face marked by hardship. His pupils, black with a faint but discernible red tint, mirrored the desolation etched into his soul. Staring into the familiar darkness that enveloped his existence, Steven couldn't help but voice the silent question that echoed in his mind, "When is this going to end?" The abyss, seemingly attuned to his despair, responded with a transformative touch. The surroundings, once stagnant and oppressive, began to shift and change before him, trapping him in a perpetual cycle of witnessing his own tragic past unfold. Transported back to the age of six, Steven found himself amidst the warmth of familial joy, his parents' and his own expressions radiating happiness. Yet, even in the midst of this fleeting respite, the relentless cycle persisted, as if destiny reveled in replaying the moments that fueled the flames of his recurrent nightmares. Fighting against the inexorable pull of his haunting memories, Steven, like a slum-bound ghost, yearned for an end to the perpetual loop. The city's towers cast long shadows over his struggle, and the contrast between the opulence above and his desolation below fueled his determination for a better life. In the midst of this dire reality, Steven's path took an unexpected turn when he made the resolute decision to enlist in the military. The armed forces, a gateway to opportunity and escape from the slum's oppressive grasp, promised a chance to break free from the shackles of his impoverished past. Little did Steven know that his journey would extend far beyond the familiar streets of the slums. The military, equipped with advanced technology and knowledge of other dimensions, opened doors to realms previously unimaginable. As he explored new universes and studied the cosmic mysteries, Steven's quest for a better life evolved into a cosmic odyssey, challenging not only the limits of his physical existence but also the boundaries of reality itself. Throughout this transformative journey, Steven, emotionally reserved and scarred by the echoes of his past, found solace in the bonds forged amidst the trials of the military. Trust and love became the cornerstones of his emotional awakening, as he learned to unveil the layers of vulnerability hidden beneath his stoic exterior. As Steven navigates the interwoven tapestry of action, tragedy, romance, sci-fi, adventure, and dimensions, the narrative expands to reflect the complexity of his existence. The story, no longer confined to the limitations of the slums, becomes a symphony of emotions, echoing the resilient spirit of a young man determined to transcend the shadows of his past and embrace the limitless possibilities that unfold across the cosmic expanse.

BIRTHDAY

"What was that?" I asked myself as I looked at my hands and my body. All the bruises and all the broken bones in my body were fixed. My two broken fingers were good as new. But what happened to my eyes and nails? How did my eyes become bitchy black and why do my nails grow back with black and white dots in them? After further noticing, I could grow my nails out as long as I wished. It was as if it was something I could always do. To test the changes in my body, I made a ball of mana appear on my hand, and then I noticed something new in my mana. It was black in color. Before, it didn't have any color.

When I saw this, I searched through a book about mana, but I didn't find anything about it. I gained knowledge about sensing the sounding mana to check my vicinity and expand my perception range. I tried, and I could feel the presence of people outside my room. It was nearly 6 a.m., and there was a familiar presence passing by right in front of my bedroom door. I thought, 'He must be going to open the restaurant.'

After getting up, I went in to get a shower, but I didn't have any change of clothes, so I wore the clothes that I stole and went outside my room and locked it. I should get something to wear. At least that's what I thought, and then I went to the nearest mall. It only took me around 10 minutes to get there as I took a hover bus. After I reached here, I saw many different stores and different entertainment facilities. I only bought myself some clothes as I came here to buy them. I only bought the clothes that were black in color because I don't like other colors for some reason.

after paying for everything I bought. I stuffed it all in my storage device and left the mall and came back. On my way back, I stopped by Jack's restaurant.

"Hay, kid," Jack greeted me when I came in. "Hay Jack!" I welcomed him back and continued my way back to the seat right beside the counter. When I sat down, I asked for something to eat and waited there. There was no one here in the morning, and it was still early. But soon Jack came back and presented me with some hot muffins with some honey on top. I dug in as soon as he placed it right in front of me. While I was eating, Jack asked me, "Kid, you don't know how to cook?" Jack was curious to know more about this kid. "Nope", I replied honestly.

Well, that's new, Jack thought in his mind and asked, "Wanna learn how to cook?" I looked at his dump as I stared at his face and replied, "Why would I want to cook?"

It was an honest question, but before Jack could reply, I added, "and even if I learned how to cook, it wo be any help in the army." My answer was straight and had logic. "Right, you might never need to cook in the army, but the food there is worse than anything you have ever eaten." So Jack said, " doubt that is the worst thing I have ever eaten, but you might be right." So how much should I pay you to teach me? "I asked.

As soon as Jack heard my reply, he started loughing. "It's free, kid," he replied. When I heard that, I was taken aback and I just asked one thing, "Why?" "Because it might be fun for me and my daughter also wants to join the army." "You can look after her when you join the army," he said. When I heard that, I nearly choked on my food as I looked at him and asked, "You have a daughter?" When he saw me nearly choke on my food, he looked like he was enjoying the show as he said, "My species ages slower."

"I see " I replied, "by the way, we are having a party on the roof today." You are invited too. " Jack added

When I heard this, I looked at him and asked, "Don't even know each other; what's the party for?" When Jack saw the look on my face, he smiled and said, " doesn't matter if we don't know each other, almost everyone in the building is invited. It is my little daughter's birthday. She is turning 4 today, so you better bring a gift for her. " So in the end, after a thought, I just agreed because it looked like Jack wouldn't take no for an answer. "Alright, I'll see you at the party." I said as I stood up and left the payment on the counter as I left. When I said that and walked away, I heard Jack's voice from the background, saying, "It starts at 7 p.m." I raised my hand to show that I heard that and walked away, going to cate another but to buy a birthday present. The afternoon came soon, and soon it was 7 pm. I walked up the stairs as I made my way to the roof. When I opened the door, I saw kids running around the plaza and a few adults talking in groups on the side. The whole place was decorated with hand-picked decorations and different things. I found Jack doing something with a box. It looked quite hard by the look on his face, so I didn't disturb him and walked to a chair by the cornor and just sat there. I could see some skyscrapers in the background and some floating lights. While I was looking, soon more and more people came on the roof and it was filling up. There were children running about, and finally a hologram appeared in the air from the box Jack was pempering, and it said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARINN."
