I Can Do This Too?

"Oh, I didn't mean to disrespect you or anything..." I stuttered.

"Hahaha, it's okay boy, I think you were more respectable when you spoke your mind! Anyways, it seems you two awakened your innate skills? You don't seem to have a depressed look, so I assume it went well today?"

'He's surprisingly sharp for someone who seems like a dimwit.'

"Oh yes! We both did, and Artemis here is really helpful! He got really lucky and found a spellbook, so he used magic to help us kill two Goblins. Also, here grandpa. This is money we made selling our loot, I hope it helps." Myra handed over all her money to her grandpa.

"Oh, Myra my dear... Keep your money, you earned it." Gus refused politely, but he was touched by his granddaughters gesture. "Why don't you take Artemis and celebrate your success today? Atrius and I have some catching up to do, so we will meet here at the end of the night. They have rooms for guild members to sleep in." Gus suggested.

"Okay, that sounds good! Bye Grandpa, bye Mr. Flick! Let's go Artemis, there is this fancy restaurant that I have always wanted to go to!" Myra grabbed my wrist and once again began dragging me around.

I feel like this had become a recurring thing?

As we walked I held one of my silver coins in my hand.

'I wonder...?'

"Re-Roll?"

The silver coin in my hand glowed and turned into a gold coin.

"WHOA OH SHIT!"

My screen surprised Myra and the people around us. The other people backed away, and Myra grabbed me.

"What are you yelling so loudly about?! What is wrong with you??" Myra was really embarrassed by my sudden outburst.

I just slowly lifted the gold coin in my hand, and her eyes went wide.

"Wait, did you- you know? Use your ability for that?" She asked, knowing full well there was no other way for me to get my hands on that kind of money.

"I think my innate skill is more useful than we thought!"

"But more dangerous... Put the coin away. People would kill for that little coin you have." Myra warned.

I nodded my head as I realized that too, so I quickly hid it away. We quickly made our way towards the market area. The reason we were heading here was because I wanted to convert this gold coin into skillbooks. We went to a renown Skillbook Shop, and I bought eight of their cheapest skillbooks, which cost me 1 gold and 2 silver. I handed over the money, and asked for them to exchange another silver of mine into 100 copper coins. They agreed happily and gave me a small storage ring as a gift from the store. Seeing me casually spend 1 gold on useless skillbooks, they assumed me to be a young rich noble.

I accepted, since I had no reason to correct their mistake. I used my reroll on all the copper coins, and came out with 48 gold coins and 52 silver. This now seemed more like a cheat than anything.

We then went to the area where all the restaurants were, and we found a really nice restaurant to dine at. They allowed us in, but they did warn us about the very high prices. They said this not to discriminate, but they saw our clothes, understanding we were not nobles they warned us.

I thanked them, but assured them I could afford it. We went into the dining area and were seated towards the back, which I still didn't mind. I understood that we stuck out, but I wouldn't waste my money yet on something like my appearance. While we waited for a waiter, I began rerolling my skillbooks.

With this my skills were now much better. I decided not to reroll my Zap, because I thought it was a very good skill by itself. Also the Lightning Mastery Passive I just received would bolster my Lightning attribute magic, so I kept it. Deciding on that path for now. A quick and mobile Mage would be really hard to deal with, as many males were mostly immobile.

However I was noticing a limiter for my magic: my meager mana pool. Without a way to increase my mana, I would not be able to spam spells like I wanted. Even my new spell, Lightning Steps, used up 10 mana a second. However it allowed me to instantaneously increase my speed by five times.

My other spells were all averages of 7 mana per cast, so I could only use them in moments that could turn the tides of battle. I was also thankful that I had a teammate, otherwise I would have to expend almost half my mana to kill one Goblin.

While I was thinking of my direction of growth from now on, our waiter had arrived and was telling us about the special of the day. We ordered two servings of it, and I made sure we had enough to pay for it. It was only a couple dozen gold for the meal so I wasn't bothered about having to convert more copper to gold.

As we took in the scenery, we heard a commotion from the front of the dining area.

"What? Do you not know who I am?! Get me a table, NOW! Before I tell my father about this place and have him shut it down!" A young man in really nice nobles clothing. He had short blond hair, and was accompanied by three other teenagers. One male and two female.

It seemed like they were on a double date, and he had come here without a reservation. Now that it was full he would have to wait.

At least if this were the normal world. Unfortunately this was a feudal ruled land, and I saw a waited coming towards us at that very moment, with an awkward look on his face.

"Myra, don't argue just come with me." I whispered.

She simply nodded, and looked a little sadly at the waited heading towards us.

I stood up as the waiter arrived, holding my hand up to stop him from speaking.

"It is alright, I understand you are all in a tough position. Can you please give us our food to go, we can still enjoy it outside if nothing else."

"Ah, of course sir! We appreciate your understanding and will be giving you your meal for free!" He had sighed a sigh of relief, and now wore a less stressed smile. Still treating me with respect.

"I'll still pay. This much is nothing. We will be out front when you're done with our food." I said, a little louder this time so others could clearly hear.

I then handed the waited 30 gold.

"The other 8 is for your tip, I appreciated the service while it lasted. Let's go Myra."

The waited had a look of incredulity over my generous tip, and that I declined to have my meal paid for. I saw the owner with a conflicted expression on his face as we walked by.

I had done all these things on purpose, because I wanted to establish myself as someone who had money in this city, and reap the benefits later. I could literally turn copper into silver or gold coins with 100% chance of success, why would I even be afraid of spending this amount.

As I walked past the arrogant noble from earlier, he gave me a smug look.

"Look, this is how you would be treated if you weren't with me. Commoners trying to dine with us nobles, it's pathetic." He sneered.

I held my hand up to stop Myra from lashing out, she was a smart girl so she reeled in her emotions quickly.

"I hope the day comes when you are able to get into a small restaurant like this with your own fame. Until then, I don't mind giving my table to someone less fortunate. Have a good meal." I said. I smiled lightly and gave a small bow to the two women.

The two women blushed slightly. But the noble was red from anger. A waiter who saw this interaction quickly came and mediated.

"Ah young master Charles, your table is ready for you and your party! Let me show you it right away!"

The waiter was sweating, hoping to avoid a confrontation from taking place inside their restaurant, he looked into my eyes pleading me to not provoke him further.

I simply smiled and walked out. Myra and I waited nearby the door.

"Grandpa was right... this place is terribly corrupt." Myra said. Annoyed that our dining experience was ruined.

"Its not a problem of just here... It's a systemic problem. Nobles... What makes them inherently better than anyone else? The achievements of their ancestors and their bloodlines? Ridiculous... One day, the nobles will be dying in their castles, begging for someone to save them. And the common folk will be too far away to hear their cries." I said, staring into the starry night sky.

Myra became quiet at my words. She had not heard such thoughts from anyone before, as most commoners sort of placed nobles on a pedestal. Believing they could handle anything, because of their nobility. However Artemis seemed to believe they were just like everyone else.

While Artemis looked at the shining stars that seemed infinitely high up, while Myra looked upon Artemis in the same light.

Artemis didn't know this, but he was actually a very attractive guy. He just didn't know because he had never went outside, and when he didn't it was to buy a new game or novel. He thought he was ugly because people never spoke to him, but he actually was so attractive people were intimidated by him.
