Chapter 7

After stepping through the doorway, we arrived in a forest with a lone girl swinging on a swing. Qoone looked confused for a moment, but followed along with her arm around mine.

We stayed behind the trees watching her play by herself. Not a second later, she spoke out loud and only said one word, "Batman."

Batman walked into view as he stepped up towards her, "Ace."

She kept on swinging unconcerned, "Did you enjoy playing with my new Royal Flush gang?"

"Can't say I did."

"Yeah, they aren't any fun at all," She agreed swinging backwards, "I gave them their powers and they still hardly play with me."

"I cant imagine why."

... ... ...

"... Fixing what I changed before I died." Ace said not looking at Batman.

"Yes," Was Batman response.

"I'm dying very soon." Ace simply said.

"Yes... I'm sorry." Batman agreed and his tone was softer as he apologized. She shrugged her shoulders and they both tensed up as the bushes rustled.

Batman and Ace narrowed their eyes as we walked through the bushes. Ace pulled up her guard when she noticed that she couldn't read our minds.

"Who are you two?" Batman questioned, taking in all details for future reference.

"Why can't I read your minds?" Ace asked curiously and stared curiously at Qoone.

"I'm here to help you, Ace." I told her and waited.

"You can't help me... No one can." She denied, tears started filling up. She was about to start crying when Qoone suddenly hugged her to her chest and petted her head whispering sweet words in her ear.

"Nothing is impossible for me," I said and with a snap of my fingers everything returned to normal much to Batman's and Ace's surprise.

"What did you do?" Batman questioned me, reassessing my threat level.

"I can take you someplace nice. No tests, nothing plugged into your brain, a place where you can be loved." I told her. She didn't trust me, but she stayed in Qoone's warm embrace.

I let down my mind's shield a little allowing her to look for herself if I was speaking the truth. I felt her dig through a little of my memories and she pulled back after a minute.

"Ok, I'll go with you, John." Ace nodded as Qoone wiped her tears away. She stood back up and hugged Batman. "Thank you, Batman."

He patted her back and watched as she took a hold of Qoone's hand. I took her other hand as a white glowing door opened up.

"I'm scared John," Ace whispered as she got closer to the door.

"Don't be," I said, "Your going to live a long and happy life with a family that'll love you."

Batman watched silently as we walked through the door and he had to close his eyes as it was too bright to be seen. When he opened his eyes again, the door was gone and he was all alone. He walked away lost in thought wondering if he did the right thing by letting her go with them.
