Family Talk

"Family picnic?" Cynthia asked her mother who just nodded back. "Is that necessary?"

"It's been a long time since we went to one. Besides, due to the recent attacks by that helmet psychopath your father has been very busy and this weekend is the only time he has a free time," her mother said. Cynthia was a little sad she called her a psychopath but she could understand. Ever since she started her vigilante work, she had caused so much death it had even made the governor of California involve the National Guard. The entire of Los Angeles was under military law due to this!

"Well, I'm doing for it," Cynthia answered her mother who smiled lovingly at her.

"Your father will be so happy," she giggled before going upstairs. Cynthia turned to the news where everyone was still in shock about her killing Deadshot. Actually, the entire underground network of Los Angeles came to a screeching halt when the news replayed the video of her free falling, catching upto him, before she besought him and then broke his neck, all in one breath.

'I do look kinda good in black,' she thought to herself. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever think about how she was still okay mentally with killing. She did not even have a single nightmare when she first did it. It was like she was a psychopath that doesn't realize what she is! The day was Friday and so, the following day, she had to join her parents for the family picnic.

"Morning sprout," her father greeted her, ruffing up her hair. Cynthia did not like it when he did that but she just endured with a pout. She joined the others on the diner table for breakfast.

"That maniac is still on the lose, huh?" their father said as he turned up the news. The news reporter was saying something about Captain Atom been sent to help the National Guard secure Los Angeles and capture her.

"About time the League did something," their father said, making Cynthia look up at her.

"You want them to find her, huh?" she asked.

"Of course I do. That sick psychopath left a trail of bloodshed behind that me and my fellow doctors have to clean up. Bodies cut in pieces, sometimes with their heads or their limbs but never in one piece. Nobody who is not sick in the head can do this," he said with pure hate. Cynthia was taken back by this. She had actually not expected to be loved or even thanked but to have somebody she cared about hate her so much...it was heartbreaking. She dreaded when they knew her secret identity. What would be their reaction. Revulsion? Hatred? Denial? Would they look at her in total horror then just refuse to talk to her?

"Honey, are you alright?" her mother asked in concern.

"Her brain must have malfunctioned thinking of Betty Rojas," Amy said, startling Cynthia out of her thoughts.

"Who is Betty Rojas?" both parents asked.

"No one!" Cynthia answered quickly but Amy scoffed.

"She is a tenth grade hot piece of ass Cynthia's been staring at," she joked.

"Shut up!" Cynthia shouted as she got up. She was lucky her body control was excellent for the table would have broken and the chair flung out of the building. She then ran up the stairs leaving everyone surprised.

"What's her problem?" Amy asked, slightly concerned.

"Honey, do you think..." their mother told their father who was quickly doing the maths.

"Yes. I think it is what we are thinking about," he said with finality. He had done the adding up and the solution was clear.

"What are we thinking about?" Amy asked, confused.

"I'll take care of her, you handle Amy," their mother said then went upstairs.

"What are you talking about?" Amy asked, even more confused.

"Amy, this might come as a shock to you but I think your sister might be..." he paused for his next words might break the relationship between the two sisters, but then resolved himself, "a lesbian." Amy was silent for a few moments.

"What?" she asked in disbelief.

"Can I come in?" Cynthia heard her mother say.

"I can't say no, you'll come in anyway," Cynthia said back. The door was opened and she got in, found her face down on her pillow.

"Can we talk?" she asked. Cynthia looked at her.

"Is this the part where you tell me it's okay to be who I am?" she said. She saw her mother's eyes darken for a second before they softened. She sat on the next to her and caressed her face.

"I will let that snark slide because you are distraught at the moment," she said with a smile but it was like a viper was smiling at her, making her nod quickly. "Good. First of all, I am your mother, I am obligated by my love to you to say that. Second of all, it is not a shame to be proud of who you are."

"But not everyone will be proud of it. If I tell anyone and it slips out to the rest of the school, the girls will isolate me because they will think I am ogling at them. The boys will shun me because they won't be able to sleep with me in the future. Any other girl with me kind preference will take that as an option to speak up and be shunned by the rest of the school..."

"You are thinking about it too hard, honey. If you feel like that then we as well our family will make a promise not to tell anyone. How does that sound?"

"You better make Amy swear that on blood," Cynthia joked and her mother laughed with a playful pinch on her cheeks.

"Fine. C'mon then, let's head back to the others while you tell me about this Betty Rojas,"

"There's nothing much to tell except she has this huge ass that defies gravity," Cynthia explained, gaining a slap on her shoulder from her mother.

"Language!" she warned.

"I'm sorry. She has a big gluteus maximus that just attracts my eyes," Cynthia corrected herself, making their mother laugh.
