Chapter Seventy: Talking to Rei and Rin
Ren, who had just finished his shower with Lily, dried himself off with a towel and looked over to his side, seeing Lily drying herself off too. Ren walked over to her and hugged her from behind. Lily blushed instantly before grabbing Ren's hand, which was on her shoulder, and holding it. Ren, seeing this, kissed her hand before separating from her as he finished getting dressed.
Both of them, now completely dressed, walked out of the room and began heading towards the bridge of the ship. Passing by some of the crew members who were running around doing their daily rounds of maintenance.
"Wonder how far we are from where Tsukiko wanted to meet with us?" Ren said.
Lily quickly replied "About a day or so of travel."
"Hmm...I wonder where those two are though; I haven't seen the sisters since we saved them from that rebel group." Ren said as he continued to walk.
"You should be about to meet them today; they've just been exploring the ship. And since they've never been on a Volarian ship before, it's like everything is new to them." Lily commentated.
"Have you talked to them?" Ren asked.
"A bit, they are...chaotic at times, to say the least." Lily said.
"Chaotic?"
*BANG BANG BANG*
A loud noise came from behind Ren and Lily, who immediately turned their attention to the sound and ran to where it was coming from. The banging continued, and the two finally arrived at the source of it all, the room where the fox girls had been staying.
Lily sighed when she realized where it was coming from before walking in the door while Ren stayed behind until Lily said he was okay to come in; after all, who knew how the two were dressed after all?
"What is going on in here?" Lily asked the two sisters.
"She started it." Both of them said in unison, pointing at each other.
"Started what? How do you even flip an entire bed upside down?" Lily asked, confused, before she waved to Ren, who had been waiting patiently.
As Ren walked inside, he saw the absolute mess in front of him. A flipped-over table, an upside-down bed, clothes everywhere, curtains ripped up—an absolute mess.
"What the hell..." Ren said upon seeing the destruction laid out before him.
"It's you!" Rei said as she walked over towards Ren.
Ren was taken aback to see Rei walk over right in front of him. "Uh yeah....hey?"
"So you're the guy who saved us, huh?" Rin asked from the side with her arms crossed.
Ren noticed that she somehow both looked mad but was also blushing as soon as he came in the room.
"Yeah, my name is Ren. What's your names?" Ren asked the two sisters.
"Oh, I'm Rei." The girl with blue hair responded "And that right there is my sister Rin."
"Older Sister" Rin remarked.
"We were born literally seconds apart; how do you know who came out first?" Rei responded.
"I just know" Rin said.
Rei groaned at Rin's response before turning around to Ren and saying what both of them had been wanting to say to an awake Ren.
"Thank you for saving us, Ren." Rei said.
"Yeah, thank you." Rin responded, still at a farther distance from Ren.
"It's nothing to thank me for; I'm just glad we got there in time and everything worked out." Ren said.
"But...weren't you hurt? Why do you look like nothing happened?" Rei asked.
"I honestly don't know, maybe some kind of medical thing." Ren responded honestly.
"Oh wow..." Rei said, observing Ren's face while blushing. "You look perfect..."
"Uh...thanks?" Ren said confused by Rei.
"I mean!" Rei took a breath, realizing she had slipped up. "You don't look hurt at all...like your in perfect health."
"Nice save, sis." Rin said with a smile.
"Shut up!" Rei said frustrated with her sister.
"What? I'm not the one staring at his face right now." Rin said, still smiling.
"Oh yeah? How about when we..." Rei was about to tell everyone about the two sneaking into Ren's room while he was asleep before Rin jumped halfway across the room and put her hand to her sister's mouth.
"Sorry, my sister doesn't know what she's talking about. Just ignore that last remark" Rin said with a fake smile.
"Oh...alright..." Ren responded, confused.
Ren observed how the two sisters were acting and thought "These two...are certainly one hell of a duo...Rin seems like the one who hides how she truly feels about things, while Rei is an open book who wears how she feels on her sleeve.
"If you two don't mind me asking." Ren said before looking over at Rin. "How were you two taken?"
Rei went silent; however, this time Rin was the one to answer "We were going out together to a restaurant on our home planet, and we decided to sneak out without our personal guards. That was our mistake in the end. The next thing we knew, some guys came out and attacked us, knocking us out and locking us up. Eventually taking us to that ship you found us on."
Then Rei added to the conversation "They treated us unexpectedly well; even though we were locked up, we still got three meals a day and showers every other day in rotation with each other. Not what I expected at all..."
It was then that the words Ren heard on the rebel ship came back to him "Can't touch the merchandise." Ren assumed that they treated the two well because if they looked malnourished, beaten, or even worse, if that had been the case, it would cause Tsukiko's entire army to rain down upon them without mercy; unfortunately for them, it was Lucilia's who did that instead.
"Well, I'm glad the both of you are okay and relatively unharmed." Ren said.
"Thanks Ren! I'm happy that you're fine too." Rei said in response.
Ren then waved goodbye to the two after a little bit more small talk, leaving the two alone with each other.
"Why did you act so coldly towards Ren? Just yesterday you were talking about how handsome he was?" Rei asked her sister, who was now blushing even harder.
"I just...I don't know!" Rin responded in frustration. "I want to be nicer, but I get nervous and shut down sometimes..."
Rei smiled at seeing her sister act nervous "I think someone has a crush..." she teased.
"Shut up!" Rin yelled out.
Outside of their room, both Ren and Lily were heading back to the bridge to meet with Lucilia. The two talked about a few things, but that's when Serenity appeared from behind them.
"What have you two been up to too?" Serenity asked with a knowing expression on her face.
Lily jumped back in surprise "Serenity...what ever could you mean?" she said in a nervous reaction.
"Oh, I think you know Lily. Funny, I didn't think you'd be so bold." Serenity said with a smile.
"Stop teasing me, Serenity..." Lily said nervously.
"I'm not teasing...well maybe a little, but I'm genuinely happy for you two...but Ren..." Serenity said before walking up to him. "When's my turn?"
Ren was surprised by what she said before asking her "What do you mean?"
"I've been waiting patiently for you to finally make your move on me... I've seen Scarlet and now Lily get their turns...whens mine?" Serenity asked in a teasing tone.
Ren couldn't find the words to say what he was thinking, but right when he was about to say something, an alarm went off.
"Attention Hostiles in Pursuit...Attention Hostiles in Pursuit... All knight pilots head to the hangar. Repeat, all knight pilots head to the hangar." the speakers announced.
"Shit..." Ren said, looking at both Lily and Serenity. "We gotta go."
Ren and Lily started to run to the hangar, while Serenity clenched her fists before saying to herself "Soon..." before she herself ran with them.
When all three of them arrived at the hangar, Eleonora, Scarlet, Sakura, and Tyler were also there, waiting with the other knight pilots.
Then Lucilia and Rumia walked in front of all of them.
"Listen up, everyone. As you know, per the announcement, we have hostile ships pursuing us. These ships have the banners of the rebel group we just saved Rin and Rei from, meaning they are coming back for their revenge. I want two fireteams to attack them. Ren, you will lead one fire team, and Eleonora, you will lead the other. The rest of you will be assigned to one of their teams. Make sure you leave no survivors; we can't risk any of them following us to Tsukiko. I will be up at the bridge strategizing the attack, so make sure you listen to Ren and Eleonora for their calls on the battlefield. Understood?"
All the knight pilots nodded before saying "Understood."
Ren said good luck to Eleonora before going to his knight "Nemesis" and starting it up.
"Here we go..."
