A World Where Humans Don't Exist

Ashley had everything in her grasp. Love, Status and Popularity; she couldn't ask for more. That was until… One night, on her way home from her friend's party, she was caught in a car accident. Her life was turned upside down. She became comatose and was later in a vegetative state. She was in that condition for three years. Her friends who she thought were her pillars of support left her. Her boyfriend left her for her friend. What hurt her the most was that her family was breaking apart primarily because of her. She lost everything overnight. Everyone already anticipated her death and believed that she wouldn't recover. Why wouldn't they? The doctors said she was almost brain-dead. That was what they thought... In fact, Ashley knew everything. She was just trapped inside her own body. After three years of enduring, life gave her a chance. A silver streak that made her hope that everything would be fixed and she could go back to her once-perfect life. Instead, she is sent to another world. Only to come out of a box and serve as a prize for an annual tournament. More confusing was the fact that this world seemed to be a fantasy world were vampires, werewolves and other creatures dwelled. It was a world where humans never existed. ******* WFP #11: Bronze tier Note: This is a slow burn novel. A Vampire

Ashley rolled around comfortably on the bed. This was the best sleep she had in years. Of course, that was an exaggeration. It was because the bed was extremely soft. She thought that it was probably made out of feathers. It was the softest bed she had ever laid on her entire life.

She then remembered her dream last night. The dream she had was strange. It was like she played Alice in Wonderland. Going down in holes and discovering odd places. It was so...stupid. Especially the part where she fainted. It was hilarious. But those red eyes... It gave her the chills. They were too intense. She was both attracted and scared. They were beautiful. However she knew they were deadly. She wondered how she had come up with such a weird dream. Her imaginations were pretty wild. She even included a vampire in the scene.

It even felt all too realistic. She could still feel the injuries she had when she fell on her face. Thinking of this, her face twitched. She caressed it  and didn't forget to do that to her sore butt as well.

'Maybe I was too devoted to playing Alice.'she thought. She was really stupid and clumsy even in her own dream. It was embarrassing. Maybe staying in that coma for three years made her turn into this. It made her look like a wimp. Nevertheless, she was really a wimp.

She twisted her stiff neck. She started to feel uncomfortable.

She decided that it was time to get up from the bed. She must've fainted when she discovered that she can finally move. She can't wait to inform her parents.

' Yeah. That's it.' she said, comforting herself. ' Because if that dream was true, then—Here goes. '

She slowly opened her eyes, only to find herself in a luxurious room. Silk curtains covered the windows. Furniture with gold lining and velvet chairs decorated the room beside the king-sized bed.

Maybe, she was still dreaming. It definitely wasn't her room. She didn't remember having an ultra rich friend who is obsessed with victorian themed rooms and who waisted gold just to decorate velvet chairs. She absolutely didn't have a friend like that.

No. She only had friends who only cared about popularity and are still in college with their parents supporting them. She didn't even remember having a sleep-over. It wasn't just her friends nobody in the right mind would decorate a room like this.

This was weird....very weird. This can't be...

A realization suddenly hit her. She felt her insides tingle in anxiety.

'Oh no.no...' she quickly ran to the big mirror in the room. ' Don't tell me— that wasn't a dream? '

She touched the mirror with one hand and her face with the other. There she saw her bruised cheek and forehead. Her mouth agape as she looked at her face. Then she remembered the giant wolf. Her, coming out of a box and fainting before two strangers who both looked powerful.

Just then various questions popped up in her head. Her predicament was all too complex. She wanted to know where she was. Whose room was this? Where were her parents? Was that a werewolf she saw?

And those eyes...

Those blood red eyes… Those red eyes were real? Weren't they?

She remembered waking up briefly during her sleep. She saw doctors who also had red eyes attend to her. They said something about legacy, Amilia and other stuff she couldn't understand.

If she's not mistaken they also had pale white skin. Their hands as they touched her were unusually cold too. Could it be that they were....

They were Vampires? Were they vampires? Of course having red eyes didn't mean you are a vampire but...if werewolves existed here, then vampires can also exist here.

Her face sank. The color drained out of it.

'I'm screwed.' she thought as she slumped on the carpeted floor. She was already on the verge of tears.

Why? Of all places to be sent to, she found herself in a place where she would be eventually murdered. Whoever was responsible for this, she wanted to curse that person.

She wanted to cry. She didn't want to serve as food or a drink. She needed to find a way to escape this place and go back to her world.

She needed to find other humans here and ask them if she'll be able to return or not. And if she could, how?

'I have to get out of here.' she looked at the door and shook her head. It was not wise to sneak out using the door. They would catch her. In front of those vampires she was just a puny little lamb to slaughter. She needed to think carefully. She continued to stare at it.

She was alerted when she heard faint steps outside the room. She panicked. She has to hide or else the vampires will drink her blood.

' Ack! I have to hide.'

She looked around the room in dread. She couldn't find anyplace for her to hide. She looked under the bed. No,she didn't have time. Besides, her injuries were still fresh. She should prioritize her wellbeing so that it would be easier to escape if she'd ever have the chance. She looked elsewhere.

Then her gaze landed on the thick curtains. She doesn't have any other choice but to hide there for the meantime. Since it was long enough that it reached the floor, it was enough to not get her feet exposed.

She immediately rushed to hide in the dark silk curtains. She stood there stiffly. After she hid herself, the footsteps stopped in front of her door. She kept on shouting swear words in her head to ease her nervousness.

'Kachak.

The knob was opened. She gasped. Ashley can see a silhouette from outside the curtain she was hiding in. It was obviously a silhouette of a man. He was tall with broad shoulders. He was very masculine. Even though it was just his silhouette, she couldn't help but notice that his frame and build looked good.

She rebuked her thoughts. The situation right now was very serious. This was a life-and-death situation for her. This wasn't the time to have perverted thoughts! Besides, maybe that was an illusion. The person who was at the other side might be Dracula or someone like that.

She turned her attention back to the silhouette. He was looking at the messy bed she left. Then he turned his head towards where she was and stared at it for a long time. It looks like she was already discovered. She couldn't believe how stupid she was. Of course vampires could smell her blood from a distance. They were blood thirsty monsters after all.

She knew that she had been found out but.. What could she do? What was her next step?

The silhouette looked like he wanted her to come out herself which was more horrifying. She was now depressed not knowing what action to take and bumped her head to the window. Her heart beat so fast like she was in a thriller/suspense type of genre.

'Do I die here? Is this my final straw?'

She then opened her eyes. It was so hot outside, it was probably late in the afternoon. The sun was scorching. The sun—

An idea popped up in her head.

That's right! Sunlight!

How could she forget that as long as it was day... vampires were vulnerable to sunlight. She then felt relief.

"I know you're there. Come out." coming from a low hoarse voice.

*Thump... Thump

She could hear her own heartbeat and it was the only thing that she could think of at the moment. She shook her head. She needed to focus.

She clutched the ends of the silk curtains. She counted one to three. 'I can do this.' she thought and encouraged herself. She shut her eyes tightly. This was it!

"Die!" she shouted after opening the curtains. The sun illuminated the entire room.
