169 Guns

"Sniper..."

The General spoke while rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"What? I came early."

Mitsuna said as she didn't quite understand the reason for such an 'annoyed' reaction.

Biting down on one of her kebabs she swiped the sauce off her lips with her thumb before pushing her glasses back up and turning her gaze to the surrounding people with a tilt of her head.

All the soldiers there were standing in straight lines while the supposed 'higher-ups' were scattered around the wall next to the Northern gate. Some were sitting down while others were leaning on the wall.

Most heads were turned towards Mitsuna as she looked more like a random civilian who showed up rather than a 'sniper'.

"Sniper..."

The General spoke again, this time with a louder volume and more audible annoyance in his voice.

As Mitsuna turned her gaze back to the man.

"Again. What?"

Disinterest was evident in her voice and her eyes seemingly stone-cold bore through the man.

The General, refusing to back down from the cold gaze or show any fear or favouritism towards Mitsuna, spoke with an angry grumble.

"Line. Up."

'Chihuahua. All bark.'

She thought, rolling her eyes. Mitsuna turned her attention to the other 'higher-ups' scattered around the tall northern wall of the city as she walked past the General, not giving him a single other glance.

'Those people don't seem to be the same rank as the Old Man. Lieutenant Generals is also too high of an estimation. Captains maybe, Colonels at best.'

Mitsuna guessed as she walked on and stood next to a man in uniform without a care in the world.

Finishing her third kebab and glancing at her remaining two, she stretched her hands behind her back and threw them in her Inventory with a quick sleight of hand.

Leaning her head back with a light yawn, she felt a pair of hateful eyes on her yet again.

Looking at the source of the glare without moving her head, she saw a familiar head of red hair and a face filled with distrust and hate.

'Ah, it's that one.'

Her slight amount of interest instantly vanished.

Every soldier standing in line was silent like a grave.

The General walked past Mitsuna with a sigh as he moved over to the wall and started speaking to the other 'higher-ups' there.

Everyone scattered around the tall wall seemed like they were paying close attention to the General so Mitsuna's guess at them being lower in rank compared to him was reinforced.

Listening in on their conversation with ease but not hearing anything of interest, Mitsuna opened her status and just read through it while rummaging around her inventory at the same time since she had nothing better to do.

With no change in her status, she tilted her head to the side while focusing on looking at her surroundings through her glasses in order to perfect her proficiency in using them.

There were still a few soldiers in line glancing and or staring at her but she was busy looking at the framework of a dead rat in the corner.

'That's a big guy.'

She thought before looking away from the corpse.

Just as she was about to study the framework of the tall city wall she noticed all the supposed 'higher-ups' starting to move.

The General walked in front of the line of soldiers as all eyes landed on him. The higher-ups were all standing behind him as he started to speak to the soldiers in a nice little speech that Mitsuna didn't bother listening to as she focused on the ground she was standing on.

Sensing a few gazes, she looked up and straight at their source.

With cold eyes and a faint shimmer of gold shining across her diamond-like pupils, she made eye contact with a few of the higher-ups standing behind the General who were staring at her.

They looked away from her quite fast, not having as strong of a backbone as the General who took on her intimidating gaze in stride.

With a light sigh indicating her boredom, she sensed a duo from behind the General move towards each side of the line of soldiers.

One of those duos of people was moving straight towards her. One person from the duo was holding a small bag while the other was holding an old rectangular necklace of wood and gold in their hands.

With her interest slightly peaked, she studied the two objects that they were holding.

Their frameworks were bent out of shape, twisting and tangling around themselves as if trying to break through into the 4th dimension.

'Space Element.'

Mitsuna had seen this before when she had tried to analyze the frameworks of her inventory skill. All she could see back then was a flat square of nothing bending around and twisting into itself.

Now that she could see spacial inventory like magic being used and it actually having a base, or rather a visible container for it, she could better study the spacial fabric that she has been messing around with using her magic and the System.

Although her mana, and thus her sight, could not reach the inside of the two storage items and what they store, studying items that innately bend the fabric could further assist in her understanding of not just Space Element magic but mana itself.

Her study couldn't go on for long though as the duo reached her.

Out of the small bag came an unlocked wooden box that was handed out to her while out of the necklace came a small open box with six magic bullets of differing elements and a second box with approximately sixty completely normal bullets. The bullets weren't the type to be used for long-range weaponry so Mitsuna thought she wouldn't get the chance to use them properly.

Storing them away in her inventory she decided to listen to the talk that the General was spewing.

"... and as Snipers of our Kingdom, through distant sands, you are to eliminate your targets no matter the distance, for that, in case of any sort of close-quarters shootout where your skills falter in comparison to your long-range shooting skills, we here will provide you with weaponry to assist you in said situation. A Gun. A Sidearm. A Revolver. A Partner.... 'blah blah blah and he continues on.'"

Mitsuna stopped listening to the General talk and opened the box.

'Huh. Not bad.'

She thought as she studied the firearm.

Light brown body, wooden handle, grey six-slot cylinder. On the wood, there was an engraving: 'Mitsuna' in cursive.

'I guess they took it from when I signed those papers at the Guild? No other explanation.'

She thought to herself as she glanced at the man standing next to her and his revolver.

'Exactly the same but a different engraving.'

Placing the revolver along with the fancy wooden box into her inventory, she thought to herself while adjusting her glasses.

'Explains the bullets too. I know that the military is having a military power problem and all with the lack of ammunition that I heard about from Majo but I hope they at least provide some free ammo for the main gun of a sniper too. The country can't be poor to the level that they can't afford to give one or three cases of appropriate ammo per soldier, right?'

With that question asked to no one but herself, she noticed the whole event come to a close as the General finally stopped talking and the soldiers in line started clapping.

'This feels like the stupidly long opening and closing ceremonies in college. Please tell me I can go back home now.'

Mitsuna hoped as she pulled out a kebab from her inventory and started snacking.
