114 Cash and Money

[I'll be back with a few more chapters soon, don't keep your hopes up though. I'm a baller.

In the morning, like in every town and city, the adventurers' guild building was packed.

Yet on this particular morning, the guild building in the city of Oldlade was rather quiet.

Not due to a lack of people, not because of them all lying on the ground drunk and not because of them all taking part in some large request where everyone is invited.

Oh, no-no. It was simply because there were none. No requests. No D Rank, No C Rank not even any B rank.

Requests beyond Rank B are rarely even seen as it falls into the territory of Upper Tier 4, which is even more rarely obtained.

The adventurers in the guild were standing at the board.

Even after an explanation from multiple guild workers, they were still standing there in shock.

Escort, none. Elimination, none. Gather, none.

Many had asked what had happened. Were the requests taken down, are they out of paper, is the guild going bankrupt, are there termites that eat paper around here?

The only answer they got was that they were all completed.

Only a small group knew what happened, the drunkards that stayed until sunrise.

Mitsuna had taken a request, completed it, taken another, completed it and so on until the board was empty.

She cleared them so fast and with such efficiency that she could technically get into B Rank if she were to pass a background overview and combat test.

She couldn't be bothered so she refused.

Where was the person in question?

Well, using the money she received from all the requests, Mitsuna booked a sweet little place to sleep. An Inn. For a month.

And even right now, she was calmly sleeping in bed. Door locked, curtains closed, eyes shut, clothes off, a soft blanket covering her.

Sleeping like a deceased person.

...

The next day.

There were still no requests.

Most repeat requests that can be done have already reached their quota for the month.

Since requests or jobs as some call them get updated every week or so and it was currently Tuesday, the adventurers had to wait to earn money.

The receptionists had said that the requests will be updated on Friday.

...

It is now Wednesday.

People have been making bets on who will snag the most requests and how high the request Ranks will be.

Some bet that the one who cleared the job board will be back.

...

It was Friday. Mitsuna woke up.

Yawning, she stretched and cracked her neck.

Groggily looking around, she put her clothes on.

Since she was still tired somehow, she didn't wear a mask since it would inhibit her ability 'Yawn'.

Yawning again, she stepped out of her room and placed her hood on.

Remembering how much money she had earned with the jobs she completed, she did the math.

'With the Inn booking fees being about a single gold coin, I should have about 60 silver and 12 gold left not counting any bronze.'

Remembering how one of her jobs was related to a blacksmith and how she had planned to go to that Sword Saint's place that the guard had mentioned, she figured that she'd go and get herself a regular sword.

Trying to remember the place she dropped the guy off at, Mitsuna took about 8 minutes to find it by tracing her own steps starting from the guild.

'Yep. This is the place.'

She confidently thought as she silently glanced at the other 8 blacksmith shops near the street.

'Uhuh!'

Opening the door and walking inside, she saw a sort of familiar figure.

"Ah. Young lady. What may I help you with?"

"Just a regular sword, thanks."

"Alright, I still owe you one for getting me those beast bones and Black Platinum. Go on, sit down. I'll have it done in a jiffy."

"Thanks."

As Mitsuna sat down and looked at the short man do his work, she thought.

'Did I even help this guy? He seems a little bit familiar but didn't I get the beast bones for that other smith?'

Looking outside the window for a moment, she saw the person she was thinking about flaunting a hammer made of large bones.

'...so did I do the quest twice or...?'

Not remembering much as the night was packed with activities back then, Mitsuna just tossed the thought aside as she looked back at the smith who was refining her blade.

'Interesting.'

Seeing how the smith started hitting the blade at an angle almost as if scraping a section of the blade off, Mitsuna increased her focus.

'So he is making a one-handed, single-edged straight sword. His technique makes the edge sharper while leaving a few small teeth in it almost like a saw.'

As she kept observing, the smith placed the sword in a tub of cold water and activated a cyan and silver magic circle above the cooling blade.

"Right. What type of handle do you want?"

"Oh. One where I can easily change my grip."

Taking a metal pole from the side, Mitsuna demonstrated.

"Like this."

Holding it upright, Mitsuna suddenly let it fall forward and switched her grip to that resembling how one would hold a knife.

"Hmm. Peculiar, but fun. What material would you like?"

"Any is fine, the weight doesn't matter much."

"Alright, I just happened to get some Obsidian Serpent skin a few weeks ago that I have yet to use. Let's make the handle out of the beast bone you got me, strengthen its durability with a Black Platinum core and cover it with the skin so you have some good grip. With the entire handle not being made of metal, it will be lighter and easier to use while the core won't shatter even if you try to smash it with a magic hammer so you can keep using it in any situation."

'Wow, that sounds cool.'

"Yeah let's go with that. How much is the cost then?"

"The cost. Please, you're my benefactor with how fast you got those materials. On the house."

"Nope. Don't like taking things without paying, makes me feel like I'm stealing. How much?"

'I only steal when I feel like it. And when my face is not known.'

"Fine. Fine. In total, should be about 13 gold."

"Great."

'F*ck.'

"I'll go get the money. You just focus on finishing my sword."

"Yes, yes."

Exiting the store, Mitsuna thought.

'God damn. A few silver off.'

Walking towards the adventurers' guild, she thought about how many requests she would have to do to get a single gold.

...

Entering the building, she noticed how everyone was surrounding the job board.

'So it's normally this packed?'

Walking and pushing past the people there, she noticed the tasks on the board.

'B, B, A, B, A, S, D.'

Looking at the descriptions of each request, Mitsuna picked the one that seemed least troublesome.

'B Rank, Goblin Extermination. The reward is 2 gold. Easy clap.'

Picking the request, she ignored everyone's stares as she exited the building.

'It's at the Western part of town, a Dungeon that needs to be cleared.'

Exiting the town, Mitsuna headed towards the location.

'Dungeon, Dungeon... There's a Dungeon.'

Seeing a door that looks like it would lead to a basement, Mitsuna guessed that she found it and entered.

Seeing a similar notification pop up, Mitsuna read the name of the place.

'The Trench of Gremlins and Goblins. What a fun name.'

Entering the Dungeon's first floor, Mitsuna was immediately bombarded by enemies.

Creating silk at her fingertips, she coated them all with poison. She used both her skills of [Silksong] and [Chromatic Poison] extremely delicately and precisely as she waved her hand sideways.

Even though she did not use much strength, most of the enemies around her were split into pieces while those who only got cut or even scratched died while clawing at their necks and chest as the poison was coursing through them.

And again, Mitsuna's clothes were covered in blood and other fluids as she made her way through the Dungeon. Those other fluids being poison, of course.

As she made it to the last floor, Mitsuna was rather underwhelmed.

3 floors, this being the final one as she could not sense any rooms or structures below this one.

On the first floor, goblins. On the second, gremlins. And now there were both with the last room being the supposed boss.

As she entered the last room, she could only see a big goblin and a bigger gremlin.

The goblin was about Mid Tier 4 while the gremlin was Upper Tier 4.

The goblin male and gremlin female, or so Mitsuna guessed.

'Aww, how sweet. A love story between 2 different races~'

'Anyway.'

Swinging her hand, the goblin was cut into pieces as the gremlin was heavily poisoned and died a moment later while glaring at Mitsuna.

Seeing as they both died, Mitsuna looted the place and left the Dungeon as it was cleared.

What she got was a knife that has a chance to poison a loincloth and a set of knight armour.

Placing the items in her inventory, (she left the loincloth in the Dungeon) Mitsuna checked her status as she started walking towards the town.

'Hey, hey. Quite a good amount of levels. I wonder if you receive more Exp when in Dungeons.'

With the levels, she received from the Elimination requests a few days ago and the dungeon clear today, her level had increased by quite a bit.

Pouring her free AP into Agility and Strength, Mitsuna watched her Status as it soared faster than ever before.

'Haha. This is just ridiculous. I mean, if I just stay and grind at a dungeon for like a year I would probably reach Tier 4 pretty easily, and when I do my stats will probably be pretty unnatural.'

She thought to herself as she held her head.

'Is it even okay to grow this much so fast?'
