Chapter 15

Date: September 2, 1998

Location: Joestar Family Home, London

Morning sunlight streamed through the window, filling David's room with a warm glow. He awoke with a renewed sense of purpose, memories of his first day at high school still fresh in his mind. It had been an exhilarating experience filled with new faces and overwhelming excitement, but the thought of joining a dojo lingered in the back of his mind, urging him to act.

After breakfast, David found Jonathan in the living room, poring over a book on historical architecture. The early morning calm enveloped the house, a gentle reminder of the peaceful life they had built together. David took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts as he approached his father, his heart racing with anticipation.

"Dad, can we talk for a second?" David asked, his voice steady despite the fluttering nerves in his stomach.

Jonathan looked up, setting his book aside. "Of course, David. What's on your mind?"

David fidgeted slightly, considering how to frame his request. "I was thinking… with school starting and everything, I'd like to join a dojo. You know, to learn self-defense."

Jonathan's brows furrowed slightly, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "A dojo, huh? That sounds like a great idea. Self-defense can be very useful. Do you have a specific one in mind?"

David nodded, his excitement growing. "Yeah, there's a dojo nearby that teaches karate. I've seen their classes and think it would be a good fit for me."

"Karate, huh? I remember when I was your age, I wanted to learn martial arts too," Jonathan mused, a hint of nostalgia in his voice. "It's a great way to build discipline and confidence. I think it's a wonderful idea."

Relief flooded through David as Jonathan continued, "But you know we have to make sure you can balance school and your other activities. How many days a week would you need to go?"

David had anticipated this question. "I can manage my schoolwork, and I'd only need to go a couple of times a week. I really want to do this, Dad. I think it could help me a lot, especially since I'm starting high school now."

"Okay," Jonathan replied, a smile breaking across his face. "If your mother agrees, I don't see why not. We can check it out together later today."

"Thanks, Dad!" David exclaimed, a grin spreading across his face. The prospect of joining a dojo felt like a step towards gaining independence and developing skills that could potentially keep him safe in an unpredictable world.

Just then, Emily entered the room, her hair tied back and an apron still on from preparing breakfast. "What's all the excitement about?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"David wants to join a dojo to learn self-defense," Jonathan said, looking at Emily with an approving nod.

Emily's expression brightened. "Oh, that sounds wonderful! I think it's a great idea, David. Self-defense is so important, and it can be a fun way to stay active. Plus, I always wanted to try karate myself!"

David couldn't contain his enthusiasm. "Really? You would want to try it too?"

"Absolutely! I think we could make it a family activity. It's a great way to bond, and it would be fun to learn together," Emily replied, her smile wide.

David felt a wave of gratitude wash over him. The support of his parents reassured him that he had made the right choice in sharing his thoughts. He envisioned evenings filled with laughter and training, where they would grow stronger together, both physically and as a family.

"Okay, let's do it!" David said, his heart racing with excitement. "I'll check the schedule for classes, and we can go visit the dojo together."

As the three of them discussed plans for the day, David felt a sense of belonging and warmth that he had longed for in his past life. This was home, and these were his parents. No matter the struggles he might face, he was determined to protect the love they shared.

Later That Day

David sat in the backseat of the car, his parents chatting animatedly in the front. The prospect of stepping into the dojo filled him with a mix of nerves and anticipation. He imagined what it would be like to practice karate, to learn how to defend himself, to channel his energy into something constructive and powerful.

Upon arriving at the dojo, David's eyes widened at the sight of students practicing on the mats. The atmosphere buzzed with energy, the sounds of feet hitting the ground and the shouts of instructors echoing in the air. It felt like a world filled with possibilities.

As they entered, a friendly instructor greeted them, leading them through the space. David watched the students, their focus and determination inspiring him. He could picture himself in their place, mastering techniques and growing stronger.

"Would you like to try a few moves?" the instructor asked, turning to David with an encouraging smile.

David hesitated but then nodded eagerly. He stepped onto the mat, feeling a rush of excitement and adrenaline course through him. As he followed the instructor's guidance, he found himself caught up in the rhythm of the movements, the feeling of strength and balance igniting a fire within him.

Jonathan and Emily watched from the sidelines, their expressions a mixture of pride and joy. David knew then that this was just the beginning of his journey—not just in martial arts, but in a life filled with love, support, and the determination to become the best version of himself.

End of chap.
