Raging Fire

It wasn't long before Dani returned to the car, and we were waved through the mess to get to school, explaining our situation to the elderly woman who worked as the school Secretary. She hastily excused us and told us to relax until the next class started. The next two days were uneventful, and I was grateful because of how our Monday began.

I went to my classes and it seemed that everyone was too busy with end-of-the-year preparations to bother the weird girl. Prom and graduation are now fast approaching; unlike everyone else, I was only attending one.

Dani and I had decided to forgo paying for the fancy dance since we didn't have male counterparts anyway, instead opting to hang out at her place until the packhouse after-party Saturday.

Sunday was my birthday, so we decided we could save money for school by drinking the future Alpha's booze, don't get us wrong though we don't drink as often as our peers, however, our metabolism is higher than humans, it takes twice as much to get us buzzed, even when "immature" wolves.

Thursday morning is when things got a little strange once more, I woke up with memories of a strange dream. I flew around the pack territory!

Getting excited I went to Dani's house to have her join me up here, but she was doing her makeup and didn't seem to hear or see me until I met her eye in the mirror and it spooked her.

Her flailing made me step back and trip. Then it was over, I was waking up in my bed.

Slowly, I got out of bed and readied myself for the day, grabbing a jacket as it called for rain today. I sauntered to my best friend's car, sighing as I got settled into the seat, and she pulled off onto the road and sped up a little faster than needed.

"So girl, are we still getting ready and having pre-drinks at my house?" She asked turning the radio down a few notches to hear better.

"Well of course! You have so many more products than I do, but I'll bring my bag, I know you love my eyeliner pen, so I have to bring it." I explained, and she sported a huge grin on her face.

"If you don't let me do your hair and makeup for the party, I will literally die Janna." She exclaimed dramatically while clutching her chest in fake hurt.

"We couldn't have that, I'd have no friends then!" We giggled, chatting more about the preparations we need to do for the day.

We fought a lot over her wanting me to wear a sexy dress, and me wanting to wear a nice pair of jeans and a blouse, never really being the type to dress up, even when called for. This was a trait I inherited from my Dad.

To my displeasure, today was the day that Dani and I separated for our classes, so I would be on my own, making me a bigger target for the other students.

I sat mainly at the front of the classrooms, being near the teachers helped to keep them from doing much in class, only occasionally being hit by a paper ball, and a few spitballs I had to brush out of my hair in the washroom between classes.

I wasn't doing so bad at avoiding their abuse, avoiding legs stuck out in my path as we traveled the halls between classes, I had stumbled a few times but hadn't fallen on my face yet, so I thanked the stars.

During the break between the last two classes, I thought escaping the walls of the school and breathing fresh air might help to calm my nerves and exit the parking lot. Sitting under a tree a little ways away from the students who came out here to smoke, I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths while listening to the wind rustling through the leaves. Everything was going okay, just one more day to go and I'd never had to come back here.

All of a sudden, something small landed on my thigh and quickly became hot burning my skin as I tried to brush it off frantically letting a small squeak as I did so. My reaction had the other students in stitches, so I knew it was no accident that it had happened. Scanning the crowd with a blank expression, when my eyes connect with those of Rory, she wiggles her fingers in a mocking gesture.

Ah, Bethany, of course, she did it.

Standing up and moving farther away from the others I inspected my pants to find a small burn hole where it landed and let out a sigh.

I can't hide this from Dad.

I found myself growing angry, surprising myself. I had spent years taking everything they threw at me, and now they can't even just ignore my existence for a few days. My hands began to shake, my heart began to beat faster and the anger within me began to bubble. I closed my eyes and tried to breathe deeply.

Why don't you burn…

I felt the air change and suddenly swirled around me a few times before heading toward Bethany and the other smokers. While continuing to take deep breaths and calm my nerves I heard a loud shriek come from Bethany's repugnant lips.

I turned to see the short frilly skirt that she was wearing had flames licking up its bottom. Her goons, Mandy and Daisy were hitting her skirt with their backpacks, but the flames weren't going out.

A boy in the group ran up and dumped his water bottle onto her to finally dampen the flames but this caused even more shrieking to grace everyone's ears. Not wanting her to turn her frustrations onto me I ran into the school and didn't stop until I was standing safely outside the door of my next class.
