"I...I don't think I'm quite suitable for such a role, Yasaka," I replied after gaining my composure back, "I'm not a trained bodyguard and I also have highschool to worry about, you know?" I smiled politely, trying to find an easy way out of this situation.
But hearing my answers, Yasaka only smiled, "I could get you all the training you needed, Haru, and...there are plenty of highschools around Kyoto, are there not?" she teasingly refuted before a serious expression came over her face, "If you're not suitable for the role, no one is, Haru. Last night was your first full moon, yes?" she asked and I nodded, "Then you're 18-years-old...and yet, you actually forced me, an Emperor-level Yokai, to use my special foxfire to subdue you. Even then, unless I used thousands of layers, you would have broken free. You're physical strength, and even you overall speed, is leagues ahead of any other Werewolf I've ever seen," she seriously stated before taking a step closer to me, the aura she was radiating showing that she truly was an Empress, "You are qualified for such a role, Haru."
...Why does it feel like she doesn't want me for my strength at all and that's just the most reasonable reason she could think of? And why do I feel like I'm her prey or something?!
"I can't refute what you've just said, Yasaka," I started and her eyes brightened a little but she pouted as I continued, "But I truly don't think I could handle such a big job. I'm an 18-year-old and a single mistake of mine could put the two of you at risk. Even then, if I didn't make any mistakes, Yasaka, you said it yourself - you subdued me. The bodyguard should be stronger than the person they're protecting, no?" I smiled and Yasaka went to speak but she couldn't exactly demand I stay here. She knew that if she did, I could just barge out at any time she wasn't present.
"...Then I would have to say that once you leave highschool, could I possibly hire you?" Yasaka said from behind me and I stopped where I was. She's quite persistent, huh? Not that I dislike that, thought.
Turning my head to look back at her with a smile, "Sure you can, Yasaka. Don't know how you'll get into contact with me but if you can, I'll take the job," I chuckled before disappearing from where I was, my speed easily breaking the sound barrier.
Now, which direction is my apartment in? I know it's sure as hell far away from Kyoto...
. . .
"Ah, so you're finally back...though you're a lot more clothed than I was expecting," I turned to see Monika sitting on my sofa, messing about with her phone. She sounded a bit too disappointed in the fact I was clothed, honestly. "Who gave you such an expensive kimono? Hopefully you didn't steal it~" she teased before standing up and looking at me with a hand on her chin, her expression being one of inspecting, "Though I'll have to thank whoever gave it to you. It makes you look incredibly dashing," she nodded to her own statement and I could only chuckled as I replied.
"Someone stopped me on my rampage last night. The Leader of the Yokai. They took me back to Kyoto and clothed me," I said as I walked into the kitchen, Monika following behind me. Once in the kitchen I began to devour food at a rapid pace, so quickly that I empty the fridge and the cupboards within a few minutes, "Tch...I'll have to go shopping tonight."
"How were they? The Yokai's Leader, that is," Monika asked as she sat at the table and watched me eat.
In reply I shrugged as I tried to reach the back of the cupboard to get a packet of biscuits, "She was okay. Tried to hire me as a bodyguard but I wiggled my way out of it--" I went to carry on but I felt a weird aura behind me and turned my head to see Monika looking at me with a tilted head, her green eyes seeming to shine ominously.
"She?"
It was one word. One single word. But I felt like vacating the house or throwing away all the knives within Monika's range - I know I have a healing factor, but I still feel like I could get the School Days treatment, you know?!
"Yeah...can you not go Yandere on me?" I asked with a smirk, trying to keep the conversation light and it seemed to work as the ominous aura completely disappeared from Monika.
"Well it doesn't matter - you didn't accept the job, so that thieving cat can go screw off," she mumbled, pouting. Though my enhanced senses picked up the last part, I chose to ignore it. "A redhead girl came by earlier today. I didn't answer because as you might have already guess - she's a bit like me, isn't she?" Monika mused, seemingly not angry at all. Maybe because it's another Yandere she's not too angry? I thought she'd have been angrier--"Another thieving cat trying to take away our new reality, huh, Haru?" Monika smilingly asked and I quickly destroyed any notion in my head that she wasn't bothered by Akane.
But I seriously turned to her and my gaze showed I wasn't joking, "Monika...be careful around her. She's genuinely dangerous and will try and kill you, and me, if she thinks you're my girlfriend or something," I genuinely said. Over the past two weeks, I'd spent most of my time with Monika and having someone who knew what I was going through...practically made her my best friend, I guess. Though I don't think there's usually so much sexual tension between best friends.
"Hmph," Monika pouted before the packet of biscuit at the back of the fridge slowly floated out of the cupboard, "And you think I can't handle some powerless girl? She could be a trained assassin and she wouldn't be able to get passed my Esper sixth sense," Monika said with a smug look on her face, her green eyes flickering like luminescent lights.
Grabbing the biscuit from mid-air, I shook my head before looking at her with a reprimanding gaze, "Be serious, Monika. She could seriously hurt you if you let your guard down, okay? Just don't get yourself killed," I said before going to exit the kitchen.
Just as I left I felt Monika jump onto my back, her head on my shoulder and her cheek pressed against mine, "Aww~! Is the big bad wolf saying he'd miss me? Am I finally thawing through your heart, Haru~?"
I rolled eyes before flipping her over my shoulder and into a princess carry. Looking down at her slowly reddening face, I smiled gently. She acts all teasing and flirty...but she's really easy to make go red. Makes her all the more cute. "And what if the big bad wolf decided he wanted to 'eat' the cute little Esper who lives next to him?" I asked as I lowered my head toward hers.
"I--I'd, uh, say he should d-do what he wants..." Monika stuttered out, getting quieter as she spoke and I smiled even wider at her cute behavior.
I was going to lean down and kiss her. I was attracted to her after all, and who wouldn't want to be with a cute girl like Monika? She's a bit Yandere-esque...but I don't really care. I could put up with it, you know?
Sadly, however, we got interrupted by a knock to the door, causing my smile to go from gentle to helpless as I put Monika back on her feet, "Guess the world disagrees, huh, Monika? We'll have to try some other time," I said before walking to answer the door. But with a huff, Monika barged past me and opened the door.
"Yes?" she asked, impatiently, to the people on the other side of the door.
Meanwhile, I was stunned solid as I saw an all too familiar mother-daughter couple standing at my door, "Ah, Haru, there you are," Yasaka, the person who'd knocked on the door, smiled as she went to walk through the door but was stopped by Monika who looked up at her with a 'polite' smile.
"And who might you be?" Monika asked, her eyes scanning over Yasaka before her eyebrow twitched, "From the way you're dressed, I'd assume you have the wrong house. Haru didn't order a prostitute, sorry," Monika 'apologized' before trying to shut the door. But Yasaka...Yasaka wasn't having any of it.
She kept the door open as a laugh came from her lips, "Fufu~ I'm someone who's going to hire Haru has my bodyguard once he leaves school. Who might you possibly be?" she looked down her nose at Monika - the short of the two of them.
Monika's face went smug and she closed her eyes as she was about to reply. But I quickly rushed over and covered her mouth, replying for her, "She's my helper and my neighbor. She's a friend, Yasaka," I subtly warned Yasaka before letting go of Monika's mouth when she nibbled on my fingers.
Hey, Psychic Energy empowered bites were supposed to be off-limits!
Oblivious to my internal complaining, Yasaka spoke up again. Though it was only to spur the argument onward.
"Oh? A helper? So, like a subordinate or a servant?" Yasaka said 'politely' before 'politely' addressing Monika, "Servants shouldn't butt in on their master's relations with other people, you know?"
Instantly I felt tremendous auras come from the both of them. Monika started to glow green, Yasaka's outline started to flicker with blue foxfire, and me? I was becoming incredibly uncomfortable.
"Okay, okay, pack it in, the both of you," I said as I began to push the both of them outside of my apartment hallway. Why? So if they started a fight, they wouldn't destroy my apartment. That stuff's expensive you know? Don't think the landlord has insurance for the building either. Don't think I have insurance either. God, I need to get insurance, don't I? As a supernatural being, I'm practically playing with fire by not having insurance for my apartment - it's bound to get destroyed. If cliches are anything to go by.
Even though they were both strong - Monika with her Esper stuff and Yasaka with her Yokai physique and magic - they were no match for me. Physically at least.
As I got them out of the door, I smelt a familiar scent, followed by a familiar voice which made me mentally and physically cringe.
"Ah!" Akane exclaimed as she saw me but as her eyes turned to the other women I was pushing out of my apartment, her eyes went a dull red and a truly dark aura seemed to flood out of her, "Sen...pai...?"
That's it. I'm...I'm getting out of here.
Making sure everyone was out of the doorway, I closed it and walked over to the ledge, "You three, sort out your stuff. I'm going somewhere other than here. Yasaka, if you ever want me to take that job, don't hurt either of them," was all I said before stepping onto the ledge and blasting off of it. The ledge gave way and split apart as I blasted away but I didn't care. That was the landlord's problem.
Though as I was flying through the air, I realized someone was grabbing onto me with their arms wrapped around my neck:
It was Kunou!
"What are you doing, Kunou!?" I asked, having to shout over the noise flying through the air made. Kunou replied by hugging my neck tighter and pulling herself up near my ear before replying verbally.
"Mama was getting really scary, so I wanted to escape with Onii-san..." she said and I couldn't help but feel bad for the poor kid. I'd put her through a bit of trouble, huh? Grabbing the back of her miko outfit, I pulled her in front of me and held her in a princess carry.
Looking down at her, I smiled, "I guess that's fine. Stick with Onii-san when we're out here, okay? I'll make sure to keep you safe," I said and she nodded before wrapping her arms around my chest and snuggling her head against my chest. Haah~ my good looks are much too potent, it seems. Though it's not all bad--
Spoke too soon. About to hit a roof. Evade. Evade!
*Boom!*
...I couldn't evade. At least I turned around and protected Kunou in time. Looking down I saw she was fine, only to look up and see a sword pointed at my face.
Ah.
