Chapter One: All The Warning Signs

Surrounded by the dusty darkness of the desert, he managed to keep an eye on the trail of foot prints left behind by passing people. He was tall and well built for combat, hidden in the darkness of the night, the moonlight providing enough light for him to see his way. He was an expert in combat and had an intelligence beyond any human's understanding. Yet he had lost his way and had been stranded in the desert for months now. His extreme durability had kept him alive much longer than the other mortal soldiers, whom had died days prior because of extreme dehydration and hunger. The cold night wasn't enough to make him shiver and sleeping was the least of his worries. He had seen tragedies during the events leading up to this. Terrible things which would make men of steel crumble. The images stuck in his mind were more than enough to haunt his dreams and keep him awake. He was scared, something he hadn't been in years. The war had lasted for longer than both sides expected but he knew one thing was certain, If he didn't make it back to his people, they were distant to die. He walked through the heavy sand and over the dunes that seemed to have no end in sight. His pale skin and his long black hair were evidence of his suffering. He hadn't been home for a long time since the war started. The desert's soft whispers and the lurking things that could kill mortal men with a single bite all surrounded him with every step he took. His steps felt heavier with each one he took, he wiped off the sweat from his forehead with his dusty hands and then was bitten by a snake, "bastard!" He shouted as he fell to the floor looking up at the sky. The infinitude of the sky seemed the same as the desert, uncountable grains of sand which hugged the dessert. He heard a loud rattle next to him and saw the snake that bit him. The snake was about to bite him once again in the face but before the incident could happen, he snatched the snake by the head and cracked it's head with his bare hands. The hissing and rattles climaxed before it all came to a stop and the silentness of the desert covered his ears once again. He took a deep breath before standing up again. He took a glimpse at his bitten ankle and noticed it was healed. "You aren't mortal!" a strange voice said in the distance. He then looked around to try and see who had spoken to him.
