A Very Normal . . .

*** I'm rewriting this novel, so check out "How About Heresy?" It's this but better! Jeffrey's a very 'normal' individual who lives in quite the extra ordinary world or perhaps one can say it is an abnormal world... "Cultist!" Was he talking to me? "Nah, I'm no cultist," he says while he cripples a man. "YoU FieND!" "Woah, calm down there bud," "Die!" He yells, slashing his sword down. ... By day, there's four fresh bodies for the lord to hold. This is not a slice of life, though at first, it may not seem a bit boring, wait till you get to volume two. :)

A very normal assault

*Roar!*

Beasts rampaged throughout the small village. Two lizardmen oversaw this skirmish. No, that would be wrong, it was a massacre. Even the two overseers thought this was overkill.

"Humans are already so weak, I don't see a point in having so many beasts attack,"

"I agree, but chief wanted to make sure nothing went wrong or something,"

The two lizardmen conversed nonchalantly with each other as if there was no need to consider their own safety in such a situation. And they were right…

For the most part.

An arrow glistened in the sun as it struck one of the lizardmen, embedding itself in its thigh.

It let out a low hiss, turning over they could see a group of human warriors on horseback approaching their position. Some of them splitting off to deal with the beasts.

Arming themselves, they commanded some of the beasts nearby to assault the group.

"Hiss, what trouble, to think their warriors would appear so soon,"

Human society and culture were rather odd. Their satellite villages were often unguarded and their warriors would move from village to village rather than staying at one village and protecting it. With this in mind, the lizardmen thought this would be an easy breeze.

But it never occurred to them how fast their warriors would take to converge on this place.

However, now was not the time to contemplate, as mattock was thrown directly at the lizardman who had been shot. Despite the pain in his thigh, he tried to limp away from the mattock but it still hit him. In his other leg.

Why did these bastards like to aim for the leg so much?! Don't they know that the vital spots are in the upper body? Another quirk that the humans had, he supposed.

Anyhow, it looked like they could take a breather, for now, the beasts had managed to catch up to the warriors and they were currently locked in combat.

"It looks like the humans are getting serious," Pulling the mattock out of his leg growled.

Human warrior parties usually only contained around seven to eight people, yet this party had double that amount at sixteen!

It had only been a recent development that they partnered with the forest 'sprites' granting them abilities over the beasts themselves. They, the lizardmen were overjoyed, however, the 'sprites' demanded that in return they use this power to destroy the humans, in the name of nature and the environment or something.

The 'sprites' must've taken them for fools. Humans rarely ever entered the forest and even if they did, it would only be for foraging or hunting beasts, something that even they did. Yet such a power was too difficult to pass up and their chieftain took it as a worthwhile trade for the authority over beasts.

Though, it is pitiful that the lizardmen took upon an impossible task. Their worldview was too narrow to see the strength of their opposition. Yes, they were able to run unheeded in the forest, but that was because no civilised race had set up camp there. Otherwise, if the humans wanted to, they could easily wipe out the lizardmen. It was only because there was no need that the lizardmen could still live so freely. Yet, provoking the Kingdom so openly inevitably spelt their doom.

Gods damned lizards!

No wonder there was some beast problem, if there's any problem, he should've expected the lizards to be involved.

Hacking through the skull of a boar, he pulled the machete out as he rushed toward the lizards. He had managed to hit one of them earlier, but they should be injured enough to impair their movements to a moderate degree. Leaving his team behind, he rushed the lizards.

Tch, look at them try to mimic humans and try to use swords.

The lizards waved their shabby excuse for swords haphazardly. There was no other intent behind their actions bedsides, 'hit with stick,' showing their unintelligent nature. Even those midgets are smarter than them!

Nonetheless, waving a sword around didn't help their situation, the lizards couldn't escape their fate of being butchered. Of course, their green scales made it difficult to properly cut them up, leaving the corpses, a bloodied and mangled mess. Not a pleasant way to die, that's for sure.

Must've hurt. Well, they deserved it...

With the suppression on them gone, the beasts that ran wild throughout the town were no longer so unified, instinct took over as they bit and clawed at each other. There were only around thirty to forty beasts that assaulted this village and most of them had wiped each other out, leaving the victors with grievous injuries.

Looking at the village, Karl sighed. He could never get used to the acrid stank and broken bodies that lay in this poor, battered village.

Despite their best efforts, a majority of the village still perished. This village was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer density of the beasts that swarmed them, not to mention the lack of aggression the beasts held toward one another.

The survivors had already been gathered together as emergency triage was quickly given out, though most did not survive their wounds. It was suggested that Hayley or Jeffrey's teams escort the survivors back to the city, whilst the rest continue the original mission. However, there were still more considerations to be made, like what relations did the lizardmen have with these incidents? And how they were seemingly in 'control' of the beasts?

"What d'you think?"

"I think its the elves," Adalyn immediately accused the elves, "There were reports of elf activity and now this, coincidence? I think not."

"Sigh, that was rather obvious, the elves aren't even intending to hide their intentions, but the problem lay in what to do about it."

Indeed, even if they knew who the culprit was, what could they do? They would need to contact other cities for military aid to launch a campaign against them, but the delicate political situation would not allow such a thing.

As Karl informed the survivors that they would be escorted back to Fortress City Tanz, he was surprisingly met with strong objection. Many generations of villagers had lived here, and they refused to leave because of some lizards. In fact, it would be more accurate to say they wanted to stay and beat the living crap out of them.

This made things more difficult than they had to be.

Why does everyone want to make his life harder?!

Godsdamned reptoids!

Always have to be doing something...
