Chapter 4

Naruto had improved in leaps and bounds since his training had began. It took him 3 days to master tree walking and once he completed the exercise, it only took him a few hours to master the water walking. It was then suggested to improve his control even more to work on elemental manipulation. This revealed to them that Naruto had a wind affinity.

With Naruto's wind affinity, they had him do the leaf cutting exercise. It took Naruto with the clones a week to master the exercise and other week to master the waterfall stopping exercise both using shadow clones.

After this, it took Naruto a day to master the kunai balancing exercise and to finish off his chakra control they had Naruto do the water fall walking exercise. It took him 2 weeks to master both exercises.

At the same time however his taijutsu had improved to chunin level but it took the first 2 weeks to learn the basic academy style as it didn't fit Naruto at all but was necessary. After that Shisui noted much improvement, getting to high chunin level in 2 weeks, as with the style Shisui selected for him, combined with Naruto's randomness and his ability to make plans on the fly makes him deadly.

Naruto got the body flicker in a day Shisui noted that this was most likely due to the fact that Naruto kept learning the technique until he had it mastered, and not just the basic variant but the variant where Naruto could use it in combat. Shisui was so proud to have someone especially his little kouhai

His kenjutsu still needed work but Yugao could comfortably say that Naruto could fight. He wouldn't honestly be redefining the art and did need the help of both Yugao and her boyfriend Gekko Hayate to get the complex manouvers. She had to bring Gekko in because she honestly didn't know how to teach Kenjutsu but with some help, they were able to, it was honestly a bonding moment.

Now with 2 weeks left, they gathered together to talk about Naruto and his training.

"Naruto, we've noticed you've not really been learning techniques," said Tenzo.

"I have been asking for weeks where can I pick up techniques?!" asked Naruto, waving his hands around. Tenzo put a hand on his chin, and began to remember a few events.

"Hey sempei, where can I-" tried to ask Naruto.

"Not now, Naruto, we have to focus on chakra control," said Tenzo and this even repeated itself for the whole month.

"Sorry Naruto, I forgot to show you around," said Tenzo embarrassed. Tenzo decided to show Naruto the different locations in Anbu, the medical department, the archives, the jutsu library.

"We have a medical department in Anbu?" asked Naruto.

"That is actually by the Anbu commander, he wanted to increase efficiency so to decrease the rate of casualties, he had a medical department formed, he has been trying to get more Anbu medics, and for the most part it has decreased casualties," said Tenzo.

"That's impressive," said Naruto.

"Indeed it is why do you think Lord Hokage allowed you to join Anbu?" asked Tenzo, "if our casualty rates where what they used to be, Lord Sarutobi would never have placed you in Anbu."

"So where can I find techniques?" asked Naruto.

"In the Anbu library," said Tenzo.

"Why do we have our own library?" asked Naruto.

"Because the Anbu have to remain hidden from the regular population and you can't do that if you have a library card with your name and face, imagine how scared people would be to find an Anbu operative, dressed in his mask, looking for a romance novel or a technique, what do you think their reaction would be?"

"That the operative is there for them?" asked Naruto receiving a nod from his taichou.

"So we just keep copies every technique that isn't hidden by clan rights or kekkai genkai," said Tenzo "however you need the commander's permission for forbidden techniques."

They arrived at the library which was made up of multiple columns.

"Since there are so many techniques, we organize them by release, over on the far right is wind release, than on the right is lightning release, in the middle is fire release, on the left is water release and on the far left is Earth release, and on the second floor we keep the techniques that technically don't fall under any of these releases," explained Tenzo.

"I can take any of these techniques?" asked Naruto.

"Yes but once you've mastered them, you have to return them as others may want the techniques," said Tenzo. Naruto knew not to take too many techniques as it would be unfair to the other operatives.

"Taichou, can I choose the techniques I want to learn?" asked Naruto.

"Yes, however I suggest, picking up a few from wind release first as it is your affinity," explained Tenzo to which Naruto nodded. Tenzo could have sworn he saw stars in the boy's eyes. Naruto looked through wind releasing, deciding to start with 4 techniques as to not be too much of a hindrance for other people who might want techniques.

"So what techniques have you picked up?" asked Tenzo.

"Wind release: great breakthrough, wind release: wind cutter technique, wind release: air bullets and finally how to do substitution without handsigns," said Naruto.

"Good, now you will have to learn them by yourself as if we teach you then you may actually become reliant on our guidance, remember to log what techniques you've learnt as it gives high command a good record to see which missions to put you on," explained Tenzo, to which Naruto nodded.

He rushed rent them out, and get to learning them. Naruto started with the easiest of the techniques which was evidently wind release: great breakthrough and the substitution.

"Wind release: great breakthrough," said Naruto releasing a great gust. Evidently this technique only took him a couple of hours to master, the substitution however took him the rest of the week, as it was a slow and continuous process to decrease the amount of hand signs he used in the technique.

It then took Naruto another week to master the 2 high rank techniques. By the end, Naruto was ready for missions.

Their first one was guarding the Hokage. Team Ro was dressed in dark cloaks to hide their identities and hair, except Tenzo who was dressed in a white cloak. They were all placed into different spots in the room with Naruto above the desk watching the poor man grumble and deal with paper work, however this was not the only thing Naruto was doing.

At the same time, he had shadow clones learning several techniques that could be useful, fire release: great fireball technique, fire release: fire dragon bomb, earth release: earth flow river, earth release: earth dragon bomb and finally earth release: earth wall.

"Team 7, here for a D-rank," said Kakashi Hatake, a jounin who smiled as Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno's faces fell, all except Sai who was a plant by the council as Naruto's replacement, Naruto honestly enjoyed the looks of pains on their face.

'What should I give them?' asked Sarutobi in sign language, looking up but to the genin, it seemed like nothing more than the hokage looking at the ceiling.

'it is time for them to learn pain, let them capture the daimyo's cat,' signed back Naruto.

"Here," said Sarutobi as he handed them the mission. Naruto could have sworn that the man had given him an eye smile before watching as Sasuke and Sakura's faces fell and disappointment.

'I love watching the disappointment of genin,' signed Naruto to which Team Ro could agree.

'as funny as it is, Hound, may I remind you that I can give you D-ranks?' signed Tenzo, to which Naruto's form went rigid.

'But you are too kind, great and humble to do that, Taichou,' signed Naruto. Team Ro honestly were using all of their emotional control to keep from laughing but that wasn't the same for the aging Hokage who started to chuckle. However Naruto was instantly on guard when the doors burst open and in came Kiba Inuzuka with his puppy, one could say that this was Naruto's fault, others could say that it was Kiba's.

As soon as he was at the desk, Naruto released the chakra in his feet and fell onto the Inuzuka, forcing both of them onto the ground with Naruto holding a kunai to his neck. Kiba was terrified at being held like this.

"Enough, Hound, release him," ordered Sarutobi as Naruto let go of Kiba picking him off the floor, who was still terrified.

"Sorry about that," said Hound with a hand on his neck. This showed the others that Naruto needed lessons in manners and how to act around different people but who would give it to him? Most likely Tenzo.

"Kiba, I think you now understand why you should never rush into my office, the Anbu's duty is to protect me and this could have gone far worse if the Anbu didn't decide to," said Sarutobi, in came Kiba's teammates who look at the Anbu operative who went back into his spot.

"What happened?" asked Kurenai.

"Kiba just learned why you don't rush into my office," said Sarutobi smiling.
