Chapter 6: Battle for New York

I was taken to the New York Sanctum with the Sling ring after which I thanked the guardian of the Sanctum before following Wing outside. The moment I opened the door, I was met with the sound fo vehicles in the distance and much to disgust, the weak, distinct smell of urine. I had read about this on the internet but actually experiencing it was a completely different thing. Regardless, I did my best to ignore it as Wong began his tour.

The rest of the morning was filled with me sampling the human cuisine and visiting famous landmarks before we finally made our way to the newly built Stark tower said to be powered solely by clean energy. I stared in awe at the building in question though a little disappointed that I couldnt enter it.

We were about to head back to the suddenly, we felt a huge influx of power unlike anything I have seen. Both me and Wong turned to its source and found a beam of light being projected onto the Sky originating from the top of Stark tower. I watched as beam began to open a portal.

I felt myself hyperventilate as the scene was a direct parallel to Darkseids invasion of Tamaran. I remembered that fateful day when Darseid's spies created a several such portals on the skies of Tamaran before his Parademons emerged from within them before descending onto our people bellow.

I felt Wong trying to snap me out of my trance but all I could think of was seeing my parents my sisters being overwhelmed and torn apart by the Parademons while I could watch helplessly while crying my eyes out.

Minutes must have passed before something emerged from within the portal. A horde of aliens aboard flying machines poured out of it and immediately began attacking their surroundings. Finally causing the bystanders to flee for their lives.

Wong tried to drag me to safety but when I saw several of the creatures surround what looked like a family of 4, I saw red imagining the faces of my own family in place of them.

I violently shrugged off Wong's hand before flying off the ground and charging at the invaders. I pulled back my right arm for a punch while simultaneously creating starbolts out of my fingers of my left. I punched the alien who was piloting closest to me before shooting the starbolts at the rest. And at that moment, I discovered a little tidbit about the alien pilots. They were cybernatically attached to their crafts. And my punch had caused both him and his craft to crash into one of the others. The starbolts on the other hand directly hit the rest as they were taken off guard save for one who managed to narrowly evade the projectile before turning towards me with its mounted weapon humming to life.

I evade incoming shot with a barrel roll before lobbing another starbolt at it, the resulting impact blew a hole through the Hull of the craft and the alien. After took a cursory glance at my surroundings and made sure there weren't any enemies before turning at the family I just saved. The parents looked at me warily before they thanked me while their children looked at me in awe. I wasn't sure whether it was because of my earlier spectacle or because because they have never seen a woman with what looked like filming hair. The family promptly left for safety just as Wong approached. And before he could say anything, I held out my hand to stop him as I already knew what he was going to say.

"I'm sorry friend Wong, but I can't leave yet. Not when so many people are in danger." I spoke soflty.

Wong looked like he wanted to protest but in the end, he simply sighed before saying. "I understand. I'm going to secure the Santuary. I trust you can find your back to Kamar Taj."

I smiled and nodded at him before muttering a spell. The top, jeans and shoes I wore began to transform into my armour.

I then head up to the skies, shooting any of the invaders I could while avoiding their counter attacks. I managed to thin out most of the initial group but more were already entering through the portal. They even brought ground troops aboard bigger crafts so I had to keep my eyes on both the air and ground.

And then, I saw someone else engage the invaders. It was a man in a red and gold armour I immediately recognised as Tony Stark also known by his alias, Iron Man.

The aforementioned genius/billionare/playboy/philanthropist was doing his best to shoot down the oncoming invaders same as me. He briefly froze as his fell on me causing me to smile at him sheepishly before giving him a wave.

"I take it you are on our side." He spoke while shooting one of the aliens. I simply nodded and that was enough for him as we focused on attacking the aliens. With Iron Man keeping the aerial invaders busy, I was able to descend to street level and take out the ground troops. At one point, I found several aliens hiding behind debris firing at the police who had set up a perimeter. I compressed solar energy into my hand and created an orb as I flew towards them.

I lobbed the orb into their midst which exploded outwards, taking out all of them. I gave the police officers a wave before making my way back into the fray.

It was then I saw something that made me bite out a curse. A large armoured serpentine creature emerged from the portal and let out a roar. Iron man immediately began to engage it and began to lead it away from the buildings and other civilians. And as much as I wanted to go and assist him, if both of us were to focus on this creature, the other invaders would be left unchecked. And so I continued to whittle down the invaders while Iron Man distracted the creature.

At some point, an armoured aircraft landed near the outskirts of the battlefield. As it didn't look anything like the invader's crafts, I didn't attack them but made sure none of the aliens approached while their passengers exited. I was expecting the military but the ones who came out didn't looked like them. For one thing only one of them, a gorgeous woman with red hair seemed to have a gun. A sidearm at that. The other had a bow, a bit primitive against an invasion force with superior technology. And finally a man wearing a bright, red white and blue suit wielding only a shield. Did he perhaps forget his blade or spear or halberd? I couldn't help but wonder.

At first glance, they looked entirely out of place compared to the rest of the human soldiers I saw via the Internet. But what do I know? I was more out of place than this entire group combined. The group promotly joined the fight, taking down the invaders on the ground and honestly it seems that I underesrimated them. They were able to put up a good fight against the invaders, though I did find it odd that the man in blue's primary method of combat was throwing his shield at his opponents.

With newly arrivals, I was able to focus more on the aerial hostiles. That was until there was another new arrival. This time, it was a blonde man wearing a set of metallic armour and wielding a small hammer who entered the battlefield flying before he charged into one of the top floors of the Stark Tower.

A while later both he and a man wearing gold and green armour emerged from within. One at a time. The green armoured one had jumped on to one of the enemy aircrafts and didn't seem to be in distress making it clear that he was an enemy perhaps the one who was responsible for the invasion.

I flew up to him and attempted to bring him down with my star bolts, yet he managed to evade every single one of them. Eventually, I had to retreat because the the enemy was trying to surround me.

It was then I saw Stark descending towards the group from before with the giant creature right behind him. I began to fly toward that to provide support when I saw a civilian approach the giant as it pursued Stark. I doubled my speeds but I wasn't going to reach him on time. And then I saw the most breathing scene I have ever saw in my life. The civilian suddenly turned into a green humanoid just as the creature was about to reach him. He pulled his arm and folded his palm into a fist before throwing a punch at the creature's head. Next thing I knew, I saw its head practically crumble from the force of the punch with its tail rising into the air because of its initial speed. Meanwhile the green humanoid didn't seem to have moved an inch.

I felt my jaw drop at the display of strength which not even the strongest Tamaranians are capable of accomplishing.

Iron man suddenly arrived next to me and gestured me to follow him. He took me to the fighters I saw before, who seemed to know Iron Man.

"Tony, who's this?" the man in blue asked. Before the armoured man could answer I replied to his question.

"Greetings. My name is Princess Meli'zandr of Tamaran. It means Sunfire(Name is up for debate) in your tongue."

The man in blue placed his palm on his chest and said. "I'm Steve Rogers."

Following that the others began introducing themselves as well.

"Hawkeye." said the man with the bow.

"Black Widow." said the woman.

"I didn't expect to meet a member of Royalty. Your Highness. I'm Thor Odinson Prince of Asgard and God of Thunder." The hammer wielding man spoke boisterously.

"And I'm Tony Stark aka Iron man." Iron man spoke and added while pointing at the green giant. "Oh and jolly green over there is Hulk." the man in question simply grunted in response.

After that we began to formulate a proper plan. Me and Iron man were tasked with continuing the same thing we had been doing. Shooting down the combatants and making sure the invasion force is contained within the perimeter. Hawkeye would provide cover from atop buildings. Thor would try to take down as many of the invaders at the entrance of the portal as he can. Steve Rogers and the Blackwidow will remain in ground to battle the ground forces. And Hulk.... Hulk will smash.
