Chapter 26
Army of Sapin, which consists of 6,500 soldiers arrived at the first defense line of Elenoir Kingdom, where 7,000 elven soldiers are stationed. The tensions raise with every seconds pass, especially the soldiers stationed on the trees. The reason there are no fortress or the like is because the elves decided to prioritize the mobility, rather than defense.
That is also the reason why the elves are spread out in a fan shaped, rather than grouped together. The main tactic they will be using in this defensive battle is 'hit and run', which General Thesis comes up with. In detail, many seventy groups of soldiers, each consisting of hundred are spread out in two layers across the outer forest of Elshire.
There are a considerable distance between each group, seemingly leaving an opening but, it is anything but, that. The responsibility of each group is to scatter the enemies and eliminate them, fast and accurate while constantly moving.
If it was the other Kingdoms, their soldiers would already be cursing their superiors for giving them this kind of order but, for the soldiers of Elenoir, they are more confident with this strategy. After all, that is how they have been fighting since long ago and some soldiers who were taught by Enma are more confident because of their new strength, be it in their archery or magic or CQC.
It is true that they are nervous, after all, who wouldn't be in a war? But, their nervousness disappears as soon as they see the army of Sapin who initiate their attacks with fire balls raining down from the sky.
The leaders of each groups that are stationed on the front line in double line defense, raise their hands before bringing them down simultaneously. Instantly, thousands of arrows coated with wind mana are released to the sky, penetrating the fire balls and raining down on the Sapin army instead.
It was the start of a fierce battle between two armies of Elenoir and Sapin, which lasted for nearly four hours before the army from Drav Kingdom arrived. The lieutenant general, one step below General Badu, sees the Drav Kingdom army, which gives him an idea to cooperate.
However, the wise Drav army sub-general decided that, it is a good chance to fight both Sapin army and Elenoir army seeing that, they are exhausted from fighting for four hours already.
The battle raze on with more intensity as the Drav army joins the fray by attacking both Sapin army and Elenoir army. News are instantly relayed to the generals of all three Kingdoms about this.
General Badu of the Sapin army decided to fight both Elenoir and Drav army with the 'fire' and 'wind' conjurers focusing on Elenoir army while 'water' and wind conjurers focusing on Drav army.
General Garelith of the Drav army decided differently and decided to fight the Elenoir army with underground attacks while facing the Sapin army head on with weapons.
As for General Thesis of the Elenoir Kingdom, he ordered retreat as the situation is definitely not in the favor of Elves, no matter the tactics.
The elf sub-general who received the order from General Thesis immediately gives orders to his direct subordinates who possess the rare 'sound' variant of wind magic, to signal with his magic. As soon as the sensitive ears of Elves heard the unique signal of 'retreat', they do not hesitate and retreat while triggering every traps they set up before hand.
The mist get thicker as soon as the traps are triggered and combined with the smokes from the burning trees, the atmosphere of the battlefield become a bit hard to breath. It is because, even though, they are fighting on the outer edges of the Elshire forest, there are still trees, not as much dense, but, still many trees enough to make those without wind mana to not be able to breath properly.
The two armies get frustrated with the smokes and mists, making them use AOE spells to make them disappear. On the other hand, the elves are retreating while using the smoke and mist as cover, while also leaving thick vines traps by the plant magic users.
