The Bennets

Rose and Claude ate the pork until they were full.

Claude was leaning against a tree smoking tobacco while Rose looked at the landscape.

"The clouds are disturbed" Rose said as she looked at the landscape.

"Yes, it looks like it's going to rain," Claude says.

"What are we going to do?" Rose says, somewhat worried about her health.

"Don't worry Miss Rose, I'm prepared for these things" says Claude as he takes another drag of his tobacco and then gets up from where he was and throws away the tobacco, he approaches his horse and from the right side he takes out a wrapped carp.

"Don't you use that horse as a mule a lot?" Rose asks.

"It's mine and it's strong," Claude says as he unties the leather cord that held the tent tied together and begins to unwrap it.

Claude threw her to the ground and turned to his horse to pull out nails and a hammer.

And so Claude began to set up the store, he didn't ask for Rose's help nor did he want it.

They had talked, talked a lot and everything else, but Claude definitely didn't trust Rose yet to let her help him by hammering giant nails.

After a few minutes Claude finished setting up the tent.

"There it is," Claude says.

"I'm impressed by you," Rose says nonchalantly as she looks toward the horizon.

In that forest everything was calm, the sun was barely shining when the cloudy clouds were setting under it and in the distance you could see cloudier clouds entering than those that were already overhead.

On the other hand, maybe Rose couldn't complain so much, Rose was now finally untied and could move freely in quotes, but being there was good, not the most fun and even less so in her situation, but she wasn't boring. hers.

Claude sit down again, leaning his back against a tree, it seemed like he wasn't looking at anything while he adjusted his hat and lowered it so that it covered his face, but the truth is that he didn't take his eyes off Rose.

After hours there, just staring at Rose, hoping she wouldn't try anything stupid, he directs her gaze to the sky, the once gray clouds now almost completely black.

Claude lit the fire to warm the pig.

The weather was getting worse by the minute and they had lunch long before it started to rain.

Then they had to enter the tent that was for one person.

"When will the storm stop?" -Asked Rosa.

"Did you see me looking like a fortune teller? No idea, but get ready for the night," Claude responded and Rose settled down, turning around and not speaking to him.

"hmp" Claude scoffed at Rose's childish attitude and simply loaded her gun while Rose listened, he still didn't trust her and would let her know.

Quickly, it began to get dark outside, soon lightning and thunder began to be heard.

The night didn't seem to get better, Rose seemed to have already fallen asleep, but Claude was still awake in her small space while she listened.

He didn't want to scare Rose any more than necessary, but usually on days like these, wild animals seek shelter anywhere, so after Rose fell asleep, Claude went out to look for her rifle.

Her trusty Henry rifle was loaded, it was a rifle she had "borrowed" after leaving the military.

Claude calmly cleaned and polished it with a cloth while he sat in an Indian pose, inside the tent there was a bottle of whiskey along with her belt.

He had put his poncho on Rose and was wearing her trusty coat that he had gone out to look for.

Claude did it calmly while he began to get sleepy, it seemed that everything was in order and that no animal was going to jump on them, but then...

Very close, too close, to where Claude was sitting inside the tent, he heard heavy breathing.

A bear, that was what Claude thought first, but it was something even worse than that.

When the "bear" approached the light that illuminated the store, Claude realized that it had a human figure.

He was carrying something, he didn't know what it was, but he did know it was a gun and that they were about to enter.

Claude readied his rifle, held it and aimed it at the entrance for anyone who dared to enter.

Everything was silent for a moment until a man stuck his head out, his eyes turned to the side and he looked in with a crazy smile.

"The savages" Claude thought and shot the top of his head flying into pieces, blood splashing as the motionless body fell without half of his head and the blood stained the floor of the place.

After this the frenzy began, Rose woke up with the gunshot and Claude grabbed her to bring her closer to him, very soon an ax appeared where she was lying before and Rose seemed surprised and scared although no scream came out of her mouth.

Claude stood up, forced Rose to do the same, and left the tent past the motionless body of the savage.

Those were the crazy people from the mountains who attacked people like them, most likely the pig shooting caused all this.

When he walked out into the dark night, without his accustomed eyes, lightning illuminated 4 more figures, they were wearing white t-shirts and 3 had a big belly and finally a thin one, long as a stick.

Claude shot at the second figure as the three ran towards him.

With every second that passes, they both become wetter from the torrential rain.

Rose retreated, scared and not knowing what was happening, further back, about to fall down the mountain.

with his wet hair covering part of her face.

Claude fired, but it wasn't as fast, as one of them managed to hit him in the hand with a shovel, Claude groaned in pain as his rifle flew and the man raised his shovel above his head to hit him.

Claude stopped the shovel and began to struggle with the man, while this was happening the other man, who was the skinny one, approached Rose with a lustful look and an ax in his hand.

Claude gained strength over the man he was fighting and pulled out his revolver, shooting him directly in the forehead and his brain was shot across the ground, then Claude turned around aiming at the last man.

The man who a second ago was approaching a frightened Rose, turned her face in horror when he saw the gun pointed at him, when the beam that illuminated her face stopped, Claude fired.

The man fell to the ground dead and now Rose was covered in blood.

"AAAAAAAH!" Rose screamed as she saw the man fall in front of her with his skull open.

The frenzy didn't stop there and Claude walked over to Rose to take her arm and make her get up off of her.

"We have to get out of here!" Claude yelled at Rose in the midst of the gathering storm.

"Where to!?" Rose shouted in response.

"Where!? ANYWHERE OTHER THAN THIS!!", Claude responded and without further ado grabbed her arm again to make her walk towards the horse, luckily those retarded savages had not found him before because he had would be dead.

Claude helped Rose get on the horse and then he himself went up, among the trees, he saw them, figures emerging from the trees and bushes in those mountains and Claude did not wait another minute to take the reins of his horse and hit them.

Claude and Rose quickly descended the lower part of the mountain, they were lucky that the savages did not know how to handle horses.

After a few minutes, Claude and Rose finally made their way down the entire mountain.

When they came out of the mountains, after many obstacles, Claude finally made his horse start to brake.

Lightning and thunder continued to illuminate the night and Rose could see a cave with perfect cover to stay in.

"Claude, look at that cave!" Claude told him and he went over there, dismounted from his horse.

"It will be enough," Claude said simply. By leaving so quickly they left several things behind, including the most valuable: his rifle.

Claude and Rose unbuckled his horse and headed towards the cave, the air was frigid now that the adrenaline of the moment had passed and it was not as hot as it was inside the tent.

Claude leaned against the wall, as did Rose.

But when Claude was about to fall asleep, suddenly a sharp pain came to his side.

Claude turned his head and headed to the other side of the cave, there he saw that the bandage he had put on was bleeding and that the wound was open from so much action. Claude removed the bandage and saw how the wound was almost completely infected.

He was in a lot of pain and Claude could only move unsteadily, he walked over to his horse and took out a bandage to put on the wound, then he lay down again next to Rose and finally began to fall asleep.

----

It was another day, Claude was the first to wake up, the rain had stopped and Rose was still sleeping, her horse was motionless, watching, perhaps blaming him for not bringing hay to feed him.

Claude stood up, his coat was full of dried mud and he walked over to his horse to check it, he had some scratches on his legs but nothing more.

Claude unloaded his horse and pulled out a map to find out where they were, and if he was right they weren't too far from the town.

Claude now only had his revolver, but at least those savages didn't chase him down the mountain.

Claude put the map away and little by little Rose began to wake up looking at Claude.

"What are we going to do now?" -Rose asked.

"I don't know," Claude said simply.

"Perfect" Rose said with total sarcasm.

Claude left the cave, but had to enter quickly, above the cave he saw how 2 men were standing on the edge.

Rose was about to speak, but Claude silenced her with just a "shhh" from her lips.

Claude wanted to open his ears to hear what they were saying, but it was not necessary, since he managed to hear something.

"I think we should hide in the northern mountains," a man said arrogantly.

"Don't be stupid," the other man told him and continued, "even the stupidest of children knows that there are savages on that mountain.

Claude wanted to die, how come he didn't know? Claude continued listening to the men.

"I'm not afraid of savages with axes and hoes, I think we should go up," said the man.

"If you want to be a dead man in the night, go up, but there are entire communities of those people," the other friend told him, skeptical of what the other was telling him.

"hmp" the other man finished saying and Claude felt them turn around.

Now Claude was more confused than anything, who were these men and why did they want to hide?

Claude turned to Rose.

"And who were those?" -Asked Rosa.

"I don't know, but they are looking for shelter and most likely they are outlaws, so they must be a group, maybe or at worst, a gang" Claude told her, increasing Rose's panic a little.

"So first we are attacked by savages and now we are hiding near a gang of criminals" Rose said in a tone that denoted her disbelief at the situation.

"Yes, yes we are," Claude said, thinking about what her next step would be at this crossroads.
