Mothers Rivalry 2
Leon stood by a vantage position watching his mother and mother-in-law exchange words. He felt his heart sink at all of Maggie's remarks. He knew from the onset that her purpose in coming over was to cause trouble.
However, the only way to solve a conflict was not by instigating more crises. Only a still wind can calm troubled waters.
Leon knew going down there would force him to take sides. It was true his mum was trying to defend him but she was causing more harm than good. He needed to win Maggie's heart and earn her forgiveness and not the other way around.
Hence Leon gave Paul the following instructions before discharging him.
"Paul, go about your duties and avoid the living room for now. Do not go to my wife and do not inform her of the ongoing drama. Let the mothers settle their differences within themselves. Also, make sure you do not infuriate either of them. Do your best to manage their excesses until they leave."
