Chapter 14

The faint sound of the ground hitting the girl's shoes rhythmically sung with the mirthful hum of summer air. It seems as though Pepa is in a very good mood this afternoon as she finally had the chance to ask Camilo's friend over for dinner tonight, she's been trying to do so these past few months but for some reason the girl has the ability to methodologically dodge almost every attempt of possible interaction with her.

"Go fish."

"Papí, we're playing poker, honey."

"I want to play go fish though..."

"Ay, fine we'll play go fish."

She could hear her parents voice from outside, they seem to be playing card games while her brother is taking his afternoon nap. Upon entering her home, agressive shuffling of cards can be heard in the living room the two adults are currently located in. must've really wanted to play a poker game, huh?

"" The girl called her parents' attention, to which they didn't hear, they were far to busy playing their card games. She could see her mother's flame of determination began to ignite as she held the cards at hand, her mother had always been the competitive type in any type of games.

"."

"."

Still no reply.

" I'm pregnant and I don't know who the father is."

"WHAT?!" Her mother whipped her head to face her daughter, shock filling her entire being as her husband on the other hand, stared at his only daughter, petrified at what he had heard.

"T'was but a joke, aha, silly me."

"! Don't scare us like that! For a second there I thought I need to whoop Camilo's butt in front of his family!" Her mother breathed a big sigh of relief, standing up from the floor to walk to her daughter, greeting her with her signature barrage of kisses and a tight hug.

"Why did you immediately assume it'd be Camilo though?" She teen asked, voice slightly muffled from still being engulfed in her mother's tight hug.

"Because he's the only boy your age that you talk to."

"Understandable, however I don't think he would do such a thing."

"You do not, and must not underestimate the lack of self-restraint hormonal teenagers have, ."

?

"Do you understand, ?" The mother touched both side of her daughter's cheeks making her look at her in the eyes.

"Ah, of course ."

‘.’

? She turned to look at her mother once again but was simply met with them happily playing their go fish with her father. She could've sworn she heard someone's voice. It was vaguely familiar.

She must've been hearing things.

"Oh, before I forget. Pepa invited me for dinner, so I won't be joining you guys tonight."

The two turn to look at their daughter once again, her father expressionlessly gasped at the news whilst her mother excitedly squealed. Their daughter is finally sociable enough to get invited over dinner, a new milestone had been reached! Her mother would be drinking wine tonight, baby!

"Can I come, ?" Niko groggily said, rubbing the sleep off of his eyes. Unruly hair stubbornly sticking out from place to place, the usual bedhead. Niko also wanted another taste of Señora Julieta's cooking.

! The mother silently cheered, fist pumping the air as she can take a much longer break away from responsibilities.

"Of course, I'm sure they wouldn't mind one unexpected guest. Well, I reckon they already know since Dolores might've heard us already."

! The teen completely forgot to look for her on her way home, she was fully immersed on remembering to tell her parents about the dinner invite as she walked the it completely slipped out of her mind.

‘’

She stared at her cabinet of clothes, pondering on what is the best clothes to wear, there was a myriad or reds, yellows, and off-whites, she took out what she think are the best ones and decided to choose from there. A menagerie of skirts, blouses, and dresses covered up the bed, as she set everything there, walking backwards, she was able to dessiminate everything.

", I like how you spent fifteen minutes in your room just to choose the exact same clothes that you wear everyday."

"Like yours is any better."

"I'm a kid so I get a pass."

"Everything has to be perfect, no visions of the house breaking please. Oh god-"

"You're starting to sound like with how much you're nervously muttering, Camilo." Dolores told her brother, arms crossed as she watched him nervously pace around the house. Quite an amusing sight to see, honestly.

"Okay, but what if—"

"Ayadadadada! No buts, no what ifs, just focus on the present and that is what's important at the moment." Dolores placed a pointer finger on Camilo's lips as she stopped him from overthinking things once again.

"And it's not like this is an engagement over dinner, Camilo. It's just dinner with her and her brother."

" girlfriend is going to eat with us tonight?"

", Tonito. Best we make a good impression!"

"She's not my girlfriend!" Camilo exclaimed, shifting into a child, arms crossed and red in the face, flustered at Antonio's assumption of her being Camilo's girlfriend. .
