Wakefield, incensed, stood immediately, his chair thrust against the wall with a clatter. The two soldiers at the door quickly entered, ready to subdue the enraged man.
"Have I offended your honour, sir?" chided Shortland, who remained seated. "We both know it"s true, therefore your precious little probity remains intact." Shortland gave Wakefield a withering look."Sit down, man, I"m not through yet," he said dismissively.
The soldiers stood threateningly, waiting for Colonel Wakefield to sit.
The colonel remained standing, facing Captain Shortland, breathing hard and trying to control his anger. After a moment he repositioned his chair and sat.
"What is it you want?" Wakefield asked, after the soldiers returned to their position and they were alone.
