A soldier's journey in the Plaguelands to Utopia

Another world, another story, another protagonist… Stephan Lancaster was an introvert his whole life living on planet Earth. Since his parents died and left him with a huge sum of money, the first thing he did was to buy an expensive gaming computer. His whole room was basically a gaming area. He had spent hours playing and gaining skills until he became a legend in more than a hundred games. However, everything changed when a girl claiming herself to be a seat holder drags him from the Earth to Masmoenia and forces him to switch bodies with a man who was exiled outside the walls. She offered him a system to help him become stronger and familiarize him with his old living style; it’s just that this time he is the character playing instead of being behind his monitor. On top of it all, she called the system Wonderland. [Welcome to Wonderland] the system spoke. Masmoenia is a planet existing in another alternate universe. There is a disease called Ustriestan that no one knows where it originates or the cure for it. It’s a disease that invades the body and mind and turns people into monsters hunting for the souls of the living. Rumours stipulate the disease comes from a dark Empire belonging to the otherworldly dimension that hosts the dead. After the disease struck the world, many living beings changed and also the laws of life and death were messed up. The dead returned as zombies with different strengths, plants evolved and some of them developed a conscious state of mind, animals became terrifying beasts hunting for living flesh to become stronger…. To protect the remaining living from the endless tortures, all races shut themselves inside their kingdoms closing all borders against all intruders except for the vampires who took down the last two kingdoms of the human race and left them with only a small land where to live, as human titled human, not slaves. Humans living in the last kingdom called Valtrar had no other chance than to rely on old forces like the old deities and worship them, giving them offerings, doing what they asked, to simply have protection from the miasma holding the Ustriestan. ******************** If you want a cover like the one I have, you can contact kan Zi on FB

The white-haired woman

The woman wasn't old but her white hair already suggested she wasn't a normal human. It was entirely white. Silver was a normal color but entirely white when she wasn't even old, wasn't normal to anyone. She finally brushed all drunkards from her table and stayed alone, asking for more ale and drinking. She looked at the ring on her finger then glanced at the apprentice mage that returned with a bunch of elves. Surprisingly, he was able to get a room for them too.

"I wonder who he is and… Why does he have something that belongs to me while it's still with me?" her eyes started a series of examinations; a nearly-used wand he attacked to his back using a cord, a cape hood that seemed from the dark magician of the tower of darkness, she hummed a quiet song under her nose that no one heard because of the ruckus. "Let's wait and see what happens!"

All eyes were on the elves, they didn't care about the others, only the elves mattered. There was a shift in the atmosphere that suggested one should not create a reason for quarrels. The drunkards were barbarians and knights that lost the battle and were under the rule of vampires. They didn't like it when the elves were there. The talk changed to how they were arrogant and prideful. Someone said that stupid pride had to be crushed. For them to learn how much they suffered while the elves watched. It was as if they were looking for a way to bring down humanity.

There was a bard singing a song about the war and how the knights valiantly fought. He also mentioned how the dwarves and elves were scornful creatures. The bald part of a man raised, the eyes were on them from the moment they stepped inside and the witch felt somehow displeased, she didn't like it that everyone kept their eyes on them. It was late night and everyone was tired, why did they have to make such a deal of the presence of elves?

With gloomy eyes and an angered expression, the bald one rose from his seat and cracked his mug against the wooden table attracting all attention to him. Three of his companions rose behind him as well and others were ready to do the same.

"You are not welcome here, stinking elves. There is no room for you or a place on this land," the stranger picked up his axe that lay untouched on the table next to others that belonged to the other warriors. "We don't need stupid people like you coming here and acting all prideful asking for our help while you expect us to show you great worship. Do not expect anything from us, elves? It was a different story in the past but with all the butchery that happened, you are not welcome."

With an axe in one hand and a mug in the other, the stranger moved to the counter, tapping it asking for more beer. "All of you are just a bunch of hypocrites!" he croaked, his breath full of a stinking smell of beer, onions and garlic. "Do you hear me? You bastards? Get out of this land, this is a good town and we don't want you to pollute it with your presence."

Soprana stepped back putting a hand over her nose. Richard kept his anger in check and focused more on the goal. He didn't ask to be in the human lands either. He preferred staying away from the humans but he had a mission and he intended to complete it before turning back, his reputation was at stake.

The bald man grabbed Casper's shoulder that was the closest and pulled him forcing him to turn at him. Casper was eying the door sensing as if he had to leave to not attract any troubles but it was too late for that now. The two companions of the bald man prepared punches to strike the other two. A battle started as soon as the three unsheathed their swords, the blades glistening in the dim light. Stephan and Soprana stepped back against the wall, watching what was happening. Agandaur joined them next.

"Don't you think we should stop them?"

"And risk getting injured? No, never… It's better to let them release some steam. If they died, they called it upon them. It's wise to let things slide but they wanted to beat them up."

"We didn't have to come here," Agandaur lowered his head. "Can't we leave?"

"If you want to stay outside and be at risk then go ahead like Gillibrian. Though I know he will come back soon, someone who fought hard to stay with me won't leave that easily. Oh! Wait a minute! I think I should taste that beer."

Stephan found his way through the fighting monsters and ended up at the counter. The innkeeper yelled to stop the damn fight; he was worried about his inn. A few of the remaining customers tumbled upon the exit, some of them didn't pay. The innkeeper had to yell harder for them to hear what he was saying. Yet, they didn't care and just left.

"Can you give me a mug of ale? I decided to taste that thing and see if it would suit my taste."

"Look what you caused brat! Do you want me to crack your head like an egg?"

"I don't think you were talking about me since I am not the one with an egg head. Just relax! We will make sure to pay if there are any casualties. Now, give me the ale."

A chair cracked because of the weight of a man falling on it causing the innkeeper to scream like a woman. The rest of the bald man's companions wanted to join but a loud bang stopped the fight. One was on the floor, unconscious, the second didn't have any energy to move his lambs, and the third one was thinking of how to defeat those elves. Luckily for them, Richard, Casper and Hermey didn't want to cause bloodshed.

"Why are you fighting in this damn place? I was already tolerant of your stupidities but to cause more ruckuses, it's unacceptable." The white-haired woman rose from her seat and at that moment, Stephan noticed her. He thought he had to hide no matter what; his cover would be blown and the witch would scorn him for it.
