After getting out of the room that reminded me of some of the sweetest memories of my past life, I returned to the main hall of the church. Although I wished to reminisce about the memories of how I beat some punks with my favourite crow bar, I had something important left to do in the church.
That aside, The main hall was the place where believers would sit down and pray. The hall was spacious with lots of wooden seats. In each seat around 3 people could sit comfortably. There were two rows of seats which were separated with a red carpet in between. There was a large quadrilateral glass window opposite to the entrance of the church that had various colorful patterns and even some strange signs which I assumed as scripture subtly etched on it . The morning sunlight poured into the spacious hall through the window that kept the place bright. This place reminded me of the churches back in my world. This is also where my father and others should be.
My father and Lucius had made themselves comfortable in one of the seats where believers would sit down to pray. But they weren't praying, they were playing cards with Ralph who was seated close to them. Dawn was also there, she was watching them play cards enthusiastically while sitting on the seat beside Lucius.
"Father, Please don't tell me you forced our guests to play cards with you again...." Agnes said to the priest with a disapproving look after coming close to the group.
"Hey, hey! I've never done that! Not this time or before! They're playing with me out of their own free will! Right, Lucius?" Ralph denied the sister's claims and looked at Dawn's father with an expectant smile.
"Yes, you didn't force us. Instead you repeatedly moaned loudly about how bored you were while you kept showing your cards to us until we asked you for a game." Lucius gave an unfavourable reply with a sigh.
"Tsk. I knew I should have asked Stygian instead of you." Ralph clicked his tongue and looked away.
"Hehe! Mr. bad priest got caught!" Dawn giggled at the unfavorable situation of Ralph, which was caused by her father's backstabbing.
"Father, you really should try to act more like a priest of the chu-" Agnes started to lecture the priest.
And then the two started bickering amongst themselves. Sometimes Lucius and Dawn would support Agnes by joining in to call out Ralph on not doing his job properly and leaving everything to the Sister. My father silently enjoyed the spectacle with a gentle smile on his face.
I've noticed that ever since coming here, my father has been smiling quite a bit. At least compared to when he's at home. Maybe he was feeling nostalgic just like me (although mine came from completely different type of memories). It might be due to being able to speak with his old friends without much restraint. Or maybe he felt uneasy at home because Magnus would always look at him like he committed mass genocide.
But all of this didn't matter to me much. Because I was too busy trying to figure out how to accomplish my second objective for coming all this way. My second objective was.....to secure another meeting with the goddess that reincarnated me. I wasn't very hopeful about my chances but nonetheless, I had to try because I had important questions to ask.
After thinking about all the options that could work, I decided to try the most obvious one.
"Sister Agnes, I'd like to pray to the gods here today. How should I do it?" I interrupted Agnes when she was just about to finish her lecture which was aimed at the priest. My interruption unintentionally saved Ralph from hearing anymore disapproving comments about him, so he looked at me like I was his saviour.
"Ah.....You wish to pray? Then let's find you a quiet atmosphere first. Come to the front seats with me." Agnes instructed me and then left the others. She gave Ralph one last glare before leaving him.
I followed Agnes and she signalled me to sit down on one of the seats furthest away from my group, likely so I could focus even if they made some noise.
"All right, young master. Now just keep your head down, close your eyes, and pray earnestly to the gods about whatever's on your mind."
And so, I started doing what she told me to. Despite never really being religious. I kept my head down, closed my eyes and spoke the words I wished to say in my mind.
'I'd like to speak with the shady goddess who reincarnated me. I have some questions and complaints about her services. If I don't get to meet her, then some ill rumors may spread about her followers, in which I will definitely not be involved.' I prayed seriously and earnestly.
My prayers were answered when I opened my eyes after sensing the surroundings change.
Instead of the holy atmosphere of the church now I was in a place that was filled with pink-ish fog everywhere and nothing else could be seen....except for the silhouettes of one person.
"You....Who on earth threatens a goddess?! No, even before that, how could you threaten your own benefactor like that?!" a familiar figure I saw when I began my second life, said with an annoyed look.
Note: I noticed I never really described surroundings much in my previous chapters so I tried adding more details about the surroundings this time. I hope you liked it! I plan to do this more from now on. Although my imagination on surroundings of a world may not make sense to everyone since I think I kinda suck at imagining scenery. So please forgive any mistakes when possible and feel free to give feedback!
