Chapter 8: The Dinner

Micah normally tolerated dinners with his mother, but when Tuesday evening came around, he found himself dreading it. Meredith Kyle was as picky as the rich came, and just as judgmental. It didn’t help that she was the Alpha of their pack.

His mom chose her favorite Seafood place in Uptown. Like usual, the hostess greeted him by name, and bypassing the hour-long wait time, he followed her to a private table in the back.

He was accustomed to the lengthy stares–had been dealing with it for most of his life–but he noticed an uptick this evening, Rachel’s name a whisper he couldn’t avoid.

“Micah, darling,” his mother said, standing from the table and kissing him on both cheeks. He took a seat and grabbed the menu, but his mother interrupted him.

“I already ordered for us.” She sipped her wine, unable to contain her ear splitting grin–the opposite of the expression he was expecting to see on her face.

“Something amusing?” he asked her.
