Chapter 10: The Hideout

Micah avoided the main roads, curving left and right down a series of back alleys, Rory following behind him. He hooked a right down a narrow walkway, the dim light illuminating a concrete wall at the very end.

He could sense Rory’s hesitation before she spoke, her uncertainty radiating off her.

“Where are we?” Rory asked.

Micah hesitated. This was the one place he’d never taken anyone, not even Stony or Libby, the two people closest to him.

“Somewhere no one knows about,” he said.

Rory snorted. “Said the serial killer right before he murdered me.”

Micah paused beside the concrete wall and crouched down, grabbing the potted plant he always forgot to water.

“You don’t trust a lot of people, do you?”

“Trust is earned,” Rory said. “I don’t give it to people I don’t know.”

Micah glanced up at her. “Well look at that, I think we finally found something we agree on.”
