CHAPTER 28

CHAPTER 28

Reily couldn't help but curse in his mind.

The battle with the beast was going fairly smoothly, and not sensing any other creatures nearby, he thought they would be able to hunt it down quickly without interruption.

But it wasn't the case.

The Greenleaf in front of him had managed to sneak up on them without being noticed, which was to be expected given their natural ability to be silent and difficult to perceive.

Even with his vampire senses, he hadn't been able to perceive it in time, and this could only be due to one thing.

That the beast in front of him was stronger than the one on the ground.

It was tall and powerful, with a much thicker mane.

Reily thought this was most likely the mate of the beast.

From what he could perceive, the newly arrived Greenleaf hadn't ascended to rank E yet, but he could also tell it wasn't far from ranking up.

That first attack was enough to make him realize how dangerous the newcomer could be.

He looked at the Greenleaf a few meters away from him, who was almost freed from the spell.

He noticed Clarisse struggling to maintain the spell. At this rate, it wouldn't last for more than a few more minutes.

He thought for a moment.

He knew the newcomer wouldn't let him strike his companion on the ground, so he could only change their initial plan.

Clarisse was already busy keeping the spell active, so she couldn't attack, leaving only one person.

He looked around and spotted Jenna a few meters from Clarisse, ready to intervene.

"Help Clarisse kill the one on the ground while I try to hold off this one," he said, looking at her.

Jenna, hearing him, couldn't help but have doubts.

She hadn't known Reily for long, so she wasn't sure how strong he was.

In the previous battle with the Iron Claw, he had performed very well, especially considering his young age.

She was sure that many other adventurers of his rank, if they were in his place, probably wouldn't have been able to face the Iron Claw as bravely as he did.

She knew he was strong, but she wondered if he would be able to hold off a beast like that.

She could also tell that the beast was stronger than its companion on the ground.

She knew she couldn't hold out against it alone.

She didn't want Reily to fight alone, but she knew this was their best course of action.

"All right. Try to hold it off for a while. I'll try to make it quick," she said and moved towards the beast on the ground, who was almost finished freeing itself from the chains.

The beast had suffered many burns on its hind legs, so it couldn't move as well as before.

With its damaged vines and compromised movements, Reily thought the two girls would be able to take care of the beast.

He turned his gaze towards the beast in front of him, preparing to attack.

The Greenleaf in front of him wasted no time and charged towards him.

With its high speed, it closed the distance between them and tried to claw him fiercely on the chest.

The beast was angry, so it didn't bother to act cautiously against the human in front of it.

For him, it was just another ant that had dared to go against him, and now it would suffer the consequences of that action.

Reily knew he had to play it smart against the beast in front of him.

The rage had somewhat clouded the beast's thoughts, and he wanted to take advantage of that.

As soon as the Greenleaf's claw approached enough, he sidestepped and, without stopping, charged towards the beast.

He swung his sword at it, but the beast dodged it effortlessly.

And so the clash between the two began.

They continued to exchange attacks on each other without pause.

Both constantly alternated between defense and offense.

Almost a minute had passed, and in that time, they had already exchanged many blows.

Both their speeds were the same, so neither could gain the upper hand.

The same could be said for their strength, which, although lacking in Reily's case, was still sufficient to block some attacks.

The longer the fight went on, the angrier the Greenleaf became.

It had gone from direct attacks to sneaky ones using its vines, but none managed to land on the human it was fighting.

Even Reily, as much as he tried, couldn't land a lethal blow on the beast, as it always managed to dodge them in time, so he opted for a slightly different strategy.

The Greenleaf, although angry, still had some caution, so it always managed to dodge Reily's attacks.

Reily wanted that to change, so he continued to dodge and attack.

The battle went on for a while longer until the beast completely lost its head.

RARR

With a loud roar, it charged at him with all its strength, throwing all caution to the wind.

Reily's eyes lit up at this sight.

Although his eyes were still black, if looked at closely, one could notice a subtle crimson glow in them.

A glow that was intensifying.

His vampire nature was beginning to show itself as a cold aura surrounded him.

Throughout the entire battle, he had patiently waited for an opportunity to inflict a lethal wound on his opponent.

And that opportunity had just arrived.

He gripped his sword tightly and prepared to make his move.

The Greenleaf didn't seem to notice anything strange and continued to charge towards the human in front of it even faster.

THE-PENGUIN:

Guys, here I am back, healthy as a fish again, ready to get sick again.

If no other problems arise, I should be able to get back to my one-chapter-a-day schedule (I know it's not much, but at the moment I don't have much time to dedicate to writing).

I'll try to speed up my writing, but I can't promise anything.

See you tomorrow, hopefully.
