Maxwell Rosenfeldt, a total garbage of a human being as Syn had claimed, how much involvement did he have in this incident?

If one dared to look back on the man's past, it would be filled with scenes of him running away from trouble. But he was all alone. He only wanted to save himself.

The man was willing to use anyone as a scapegoat. He refused to bear the brunt of his mistakes. He didn't want to suffer from the consequences of his abortive decisions. 

And Syn was right. Maxwell Rosenfeldt was nothing but a coward that had taken the form of a human. 

How come his name was brought up at that point in time? During a decisive moment to boot?

What did Maxwell have to do with everything that was happening?

He shouldn't have any resources to start an operation to kidnap his own family. Maxwell was dirt poor when he abandoned his family. If he was the same man he was back then, he would be thriving in similar circumstances.
