Chapter 13

Her hesitation lasted for only a moment.

Slipping inside the room, Dominique slammed the door shut behind her, bolting it to stop anybody else from coming inside. She darted to where Jesse still panted on the floor, crouching at his side to test his pulse.

“You stupid son of a bitch.” Regardless of his frantic breathing, his heartbeat seemed strong, and she quickly turned her attention to the bite marks on his neck. “What’s with your fucking death wish, huh? How many times are you going to make me haul your ass out of the fire?”

“What…?” Jesse’s eyes cleared, focusing on her, and he quickly scrambled backward. He covered his lap with his jacket. His chest was still jerking, and she glanced down, noticing the blood on the floor. His neck wasn’t the only thing bleeding. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

She arched a fine brow. “You snuck out of the house, didn’t you? Where else do you think I’ll be?”
