Our MC reincarnates in a new world filled with magic, however he quickly finds that it is full of danger. A game set up by the gods puts him in a competition against other participants. Luckily he is given a special power when he wakes up in this world. The problem is... so were the other participants. He must fight to survive since the last one standing will be able to become a god themselves. If you don't like the MC or the system part then I suggest you read a few more chapters before you stop reading.

Roommates

Caxon closed the book as he took a deep breath and sighed. He was glad he got some vital knowledge, but surprisingly for a book called with "The History of Arbren" in the title he felt that the book contained very little actual information except for the very beginning.

He still had many questions about Arbren's political structure and major cities that if every brought up could very easily show his ignorance but at least he knew the ruling family's name.

But looking around at the decrepit library that he was sitting in it was probably the best information he was going to get. He also thought that the book was probably written by some kind of historian who had lost their mind or a conspiracy theorist who was exaggerating parts of this story.

Thinking this far he took a look at the author of the book and was suddenly very afraid that maybe he shouldn't ignore the warnings in the book so quickly.

"The History of Arbren, and the Warning it Holds"

By Geltry Glory

It was a safe bet to say that there the last name of Glory wasn't a coincidence in this case and that if anyone were to know the obscure truth to what happened in the past it would be the royal family. However, judging on the latter part of the book the author was still almost definitely insane on some level.

He shook his head since this was not a problem for him to solve. He then put the book back and looked for a new one that he would benefit from reading.

After a few hours of reading more children's stories and useless junk the librarian suddenly called for him.

"Hey, kid the library is closing put anything you got out back where you got it and get out of here."

Caxon had actually learned that this man was a gnome from the various stories he had read.

"Right away sir."

After he had left the library, it was time for him to go to his room and sleep for the day.

'I wonder what weapon training will be like tomorrow?'

With this thought in his head Caxon made his way back to his room. As he got to his own door, he opened it without any hesitation.

THUNK

As soon as he reached for the door and turned the door handle, he heard the sound of something falling inside of his room. When he walked in, he saw the small boy who had been the first one to finish and sat behind him in class on the floor in between the beds.

When the boy looked back at him the latter's eyes lit up as if they were seeing a superhero standing in front of them.

"NO WAY! Are you really my roommate?"

The boy scrambled to his feet as he looked at him with wide eyes and a smile across his entire face. Looking at this strange reaction Caxon didn't know what to think.

He didn't remember doing anything to deserve this kind of reaction, he didn't know if he should be suspicious because such a young boy did finish first yesterday and now was acting really strange, all though he didn't get the sense the person in front of him was a participant their reaction just didn't make sense.

"Yeah, why does that matter to you?"

"Oh, well I just mean... I really wanted to talk to you after what you did in class the other day... I... I just thought it was really cool how you stood up to someone so strong."

Caxon instantly narrowed his eyes, according to what the bully said right after the tests this kid should have been the first to finish the tests, and that meant one of two things. He either killed a clone of himself under increased gravity incredibly quickly, and he didn't take the full 12 hours to comprehend an element for the bamboo. Or he came here with an element already comprehended and was able to skip that last test entirely.

No matter which of these options took place that meant the boy was very talented and shouldn't even consider the bully who was almost all talk a strong person at all.

To Caxon it seemed as if they were just a bad actor since their expression and words clearly didn't match up to their actions.

"I thought you finished first doesn't that mean you are strong too, why do you seem afraid of a guy like that?"

The kid seemed flustered since he could sense Caxon's doubt and he also felt like he was very mad at him for a reason he didn't understand.

"Oh, no no, I just knew about the water element before I came here thanks to my mom. That bully had been picking on me since he found out how I got first. Until you showed up and saved me! My name is William Ravilot what's yours?"

The boy's eyes turned extremely sad momentarily before they grew happy again when he talked about what Caxon had done.

"Caxon, I am going to bed now goodnight."

He was still unsure of William since he didn't want to believe his childish personality and no matter what William said or what his mother helped him with understanding the water element enough to knock down 6 bamboo shoots at his age was impressive.

"Oh, ok I will see you tomorrow then."

After changing out of his school uniform and preparing for bed Caxon then laid in his bed as though he was sleeping.

After he heard William lay down and waited until he was sure they were asleep he then sat up and began training in his room. It would be too risky to improve his mana core since a high-level mage would possibly be able to see his true level. Training his elements would run the same risk because someone could sense the fluctuation of mana and find what he was doing.

That left the only thing left to improve on to be his physical combat skills. He would simply have Amon stay in his shadow and correct any flaws he saw. From an outside perspective it would just seem like he was practicing his sword skills in his room by himself.

After a few hours of training, he went to sleep for the final hours of the night so he would still be fully rested the next day.

In the morning Caxon woke up to find William was already awake and in his uniform.

"Good morning, do you want to go to class together today?"

William quickly stood and smiled at him before he was even able to get out of bed.

After ignoring William's question, he put on his uniform and looked at his young roommate who was still smiling at him.

"Fine let's go I am sure you would have followed me anyways."

The pair made their way through the campus on their way to the classroom. As the two walked in they found that there were a few other students already here but most of them were just sitting in the class talking to each other or simply sleeping.

However, Caxon ignored the conversations and simply took the same seat that he sat in yesterday with William quickly sitting behind him once again.

After he was in his seat, he laid down like he was going to sleep again and started to wait for the teacher to come and give them what would likely be a lazily given, useless lesson.
