A Regressor's Past Life

Nine planets aligned, and the Earth awakened to mana. This was supposed to be a good thing, but the world doesn't always go as planned, as gates to other worlds appeared and monsters and otherworlders emerge as the Earth awakens to mana. The otherworlders started to kill everyone they saw, and one of them killed Lax's family. He was about to despair, but remembering his sister's words, he changed his thoughts. "Don't despair. Take revenge. And... live on Lax." Revenge was now Lax's purpose in life, as he tried his best to move on. ... A/N: Don't worry guys I won't be making this as the typical revenge story and make it entertaining as possible with at least 1k words per chapter.

Chapter [5]

A muscular man flexing his muscles is approached by a teenage boy. The boy opened his mouth to speak, causing the muscular man to turn his attention to him.

"You know this isn't the right place or time to be doing this right?"

"Hmm? Oh! Don't worry, kid, if you're afraid, just look at these muscles. I'll protect you with them."

'Look at them yourself! Haa. This guy is hopeless, it would be better for me to travel alone.'

Lax retorted and sighed in his head. He wanted to travel alone, but the guy in front of him might be useful in the future, even though the man in front of him looks like he only has muscles for brains.

"I think we should get moving soon. There might be monsters around the area."

"Okay kid! But I must say for someone your age, you are very composed even in this situation."

The two started to move to find a place to stay and hide. Along the way, while looking for a place, they encountered some monsters, but they either just hid from them or ran away as soon as they saw them.

Lax wanted to fight them, but he didn't want to risk their location getting exposed to some monsters nearby. So unless he encounters a situation where he is forced to fight, he will continue to run away for now.

A few hours passed, and the sun was now close to setting. Lax and the muscle man found a place to stay, a mall. However, the moment they got in they were met with a big spider the size of a car.

The spider was looking at them like a predator looking at its prey. The muscle-headed man finally turned serious in this situation, and Lax was somewhat thankful for that. It seems that he wasn't all muscle. They tried to run back outside, but the entrance was locked, or more specifically, webbed shut by the spider.

"Shit! The entrance is locked, kid! What do we do now?!"

"Why are you asking me?! Aren't you supposed to be the older one of the two of us!"

"Oh right.! I forgot since you acted so maturely earlier. Leave it to me, kid, I'll beat up that spider with these babies!"

He said this while flexing his 'baby' (right bicept). He walked fearlessly towards the big ass spider, and as he approached it, He died. He got shot by a ball of venomous acid that came from the spider's mouth.

Well, at least that's what would have happened if Lax didn't manage to save him in time. Now Lax was on top of him (muscle man). The scene right now was like a cliche trope in a rom-com anime where the protagonist trips and falls on top of the main heroine.

"Stop blushing, you idiot! And quickly get up; that big ass spider won't wait for us to dilly-dally here!"

Lax shouted in annoyance at the muscle man. The man acted like a girl and started blushing all over even though he was a man, and Lax got irritated by that and veins popped out of his head.

"Sorry, sorry Don't get angry, kid. I was just teasing you. Moving on now. It's time for me to get ser-... Argh!"

He stood up, apologizing to Lax, but before he was even able to finish his sentence, he was pierced by one of the spider's sharp legs, creating a fist size hole in his chest.

This time, however, he was really dead, leaving Lax to face the big ass spider alone. He was really experiencing many unfortunate events today. First, the plane he was in crashed due to some bird monster, second, he was stuck with the muscle-loving idiot for the whole day, and finally, he was now forced to fight against a dangerous monster that can create sticky webs and spit out balls of venomous acid.

His luck today was really bad. He didn't really have time to complain about it right now, though. Lax's senses were then activated to their maximum as adrenaline filled his body from reacting to the situation he was in.

The spider leaped at Lax. Lax, however, dodged the spider by jumping to the side and doing a roll. He grabbed a broken leg of a chair near him and held it like a sword.

The broken leg of the chair was sharp at its end, and it was also a metal one. Lax waited for the spider to make his next move and prepared himself to counterattack. The spider didn't move but shot a purple green substance out of its mouth, which it aimed towards Lax.

Seeing the ball of acid flying towards him, he quickly moved to grab the sitting part of the chair beside him and used it to block the incoming acid.

The acid hit the chair and dissolved it in a matter of seconds. Lax dropped it as soon as possible, lest his hands get dissolved. He could've dodged the acid, but he wanted to test its strength first, and the result was that the metal chair was completely gone.

Still, he was able to learn a few things from blocking the ball of acid. It was better to dodge than to block. Lax also knew that the spider's exoskeleton would be hard to penetrate, so he planned to attack its eyes instead.

He quickly disappeared from his spot, leaving behind a rainbow glow, and sprinted toward the spider's face. He thrust his 'sword' at one of the spider's eyes, driving it deeply inside.

The spider let out a teeth grinding shriek as it snapped out of Lax's illusion. The pain from its eyes was strong enough to do that, and there was a lot of disgusting purple blood dripping from it.

Yet it was still alive, and Lax now had no weapons. He looked around for a broken leg of a chair, but he found none anywhere except where the spider stood.

Lax still had a lot of mana left, but he didn't think it would last long enough to stab all the spider's eyes. He needed to find a way to break through the spider's hard shell. Targeting the joints would be a great idea, however, it would only waste a lot of mana as it wouldn't be able to kill the spider.

And that was when an idea lit up inside his mind. He can use mana to coat his body, upping its defense and strength like how it increased the power of his punch.

But what if he did the same to an object? By channeling mana through it, wouldn't it also increase its durability, power, and maybe even sharpness?

Lax had been enlightened in the middle of the fight, filling him with insights on many more ways to use mana. During the time he was enlightened, he was dodging all of the spider's attacks unconsciously.

Then, after a while, he stopped moving and grinned. His silver eyes glowed a rainbow color, and the next thing that the spider saw was Lax disappearing from its vision.

And the next time Lax appeared, he was already at its back with a 'sword' in his hands. This time the 'sword' was coated with dark blue mana, forming the shape of a blade.

Lax slashed the 'sword' with all his might and sliced the spider's body in half, from where its webs come out to the base of its pedicel.

The spider was finally dead, and Lax's butt thumped to the ground. After all, he used too much mana in this fight, and now he was breathing heavily and fatigue spread throughout his body.

He rested for a few minutes before getting up again. Then he walked towards the spider's body, looking for parts he could use. He sliced off one of its legs, cutting it to a size that fit him. Then he smiled after all his hard work was at least somewhat rewarded.
