Chapter 7

DIAMOND POV

This is one reason why I don't take Corey to school by myself. He always ends up crying after me. He wants to go with me to work, can you imagine?

He always does this whenever I drop him off at school. He did it before and today, he's doing it again. He has never been this babyish until now.

"Mommy," He stomp constantly on his foot, his arms wide open for me to carry him.

I just look down at him. Nadia was standing beside me, begging me to bring him with us to the office.

But I can't. I have so many task waiting on my desk today. It's Wednesday and I have to submit a lot because I received a phone call from Mrs. Patricks that the CEO is around and all staffs must report early before 9.

"Oh sweetheart…." Nadia carried him to her side and pets him. "Look at you. Don't you know you're too handsome to cry? Huh?"

I frowned at her, "Nadia, what are you doing?" His class teacher was trying to coax him to go with her but he refuses, still pegging himself on Nadia. "We have so many things to do today, we can't take him along."

"Why?" She adjusted him on her side, properly. "Corey has never cried like this before. He's sure to go with us."

I slapped my forehead, slightly. "Nadia, he usually does this attitude every morning. It's my fault I pampered him so much."

Or maybe because he doesn't have a second sibling.

"He's doing this so I can register him in Carter's school." I said.

But Corey shook his head vigorously, "No!" And rested his head on Nadia's shoulder.

I got so furious. He's wasting my time and also the time of his teacher here. "Now, that's it, Corey." I wanted to take him from Nadia but she slapped my hand away when Corey cried harder.

"Gal, let him be, please." She faced his class teacher. "Mrs. Jonas, please understand he doesn't want to be in school today."

Mrs. Jonas nodded with a smile and left us.

I place my hands on my hips and murmured. "This is so ridiculous."

She walked towards my old beetle and stopped at the door, "You are ridiculous, Diamond. Just because you're traumatized from meeting George's brother last night doesn't makes you to cast your anger on this little boy. He has nothing to do with whatever happened between you and George. Go fix yourself." She opened the door and Corey sat at the back seat. Then, she faced me, "Please, hop in and move this thing."

I glare at her for a while and roll my eyes before approaching the old vehicle. She was really adding to my anger and madness.

…..

I kept peeking at my son over the laptop every now and then. He was playing non-stop with a piece of paper he made into a boat.

He is very creative and I wonder what he must become in the future.

The paper boat fell on the floor and I felt him went under the desk to pick it. He sneaked out through my side and I looked down at him with a smile.

"Is that a boat?" I chuckled when he gave it to me and nod his head. I took it like I admire it. "Wow, it's lovely. Mommy wants a real boat in the future, will you buy for me?"

"A ship is better." He says, sailing the boat on my lap.

My brows rose, "Ah, I love ships. I want a cruise. A very big one…" Just then, the door opens and Mrs. Patricks entered with a stack of files in her arms.

"Is yours ready yet?"

I looked at the ones she was carrying, "Are those coming to my desk?"

It better not. Because I still have millions unfinished.

She laughed and shook her head. "No, dear." She adjusted her glasses – I suspect Mrs. Patricks to be middle aged like mom. "These are actually going to the CEOs office. I told you he'll be around…."

I was caught off guard when Corey sneaked out through the little space of the door. Mrs. Patricks didn't shut the door properly. "Corey?" I stood up.

"Don't worry." Mrs. Patricks clicked her tongue. "He won't go missing. The elevator buttons are far beyond his reach and in this place, nobody kidnaps."

I don't know if they do or not but…..this is my only child and hope.

My last battery saver.

I stare at the door, still worried on one side while on the other, I felt like nothing bad can happen to him.

….

GEORGE POV

I was explaining something to my secretary, Marvins. Gregory was cross-checking his own article and his assistant, Frances, was backing him up. The office was busy a bit because it's been a while since I last came around and I needed to fix some stuff before my meeting in the next one hour.

Just then, my door opened. I didn't see anyone immediately so I thought it was going to be a ghost.

But then, I felt a paper like something hit my leg. I looked down and picked it up and as soon as I lifted my head, a very handsome little boy with big brown eyes and dark brown hair was staring deeply into my eyes like space.

This boy should be around the age of three to four years.

He was jumping to reach the paper boat in my hand but I didn't notice that. My mind was taken away by his looks. There was this something I haven't felt before that kept pulling me to carry him.

Though he didn't protest for me to do so but I just kinda like him all of a sudden. It was like something missing in me has just been found.

The others didn't notice his presence on time and when they did, their brows furrowed. Seeing a little boy on school uniform in my office.

I gave him his paper boat and expected he'll run away shortly but he went to the little palour at the east coast of my office and started sailing the paper thing on my center glass table.

"Who the hell is that kid?" I heard Frances whispering to Marvins.

"I think the anxious mother must be somewhere looking for him by now." Marvins whispered back. "And why is Boss not chasing him away?"

I didn't know what to do. I stood there staring at him in silence then Greg came to me and whispered something into my ear. "That kid is a distraction. Ask the HR team to come pick him and search for his mother immediately."

"No…" The word came out of me calmly but my eyes never left the little boy's direction.

Greg stare at me for a while like I have no sense at all. "Dude, this kid has a mom and dad. Imagine his parents looking for him and…."

"Play with me!" The little boy sailed the paper boat to me, jumping on his toes for me to play Pilate with him.

I chuckled and squatted down to take it from him gladly. Greg, Marvins and Frances where looking at me like am a madman. For goodness sake, we have a meeting in an hour from now and am giving this strange kid attention instead of focusing on the main things we were doing.

I fake a dead pan face at the paper thing in my hand, "Hmm…this is too frail. If it's gets into water, it'll wet and tear easily."

His head tilts to one side slightly like he's studying me. Then he pouted his lips and sail the boat on my head. He looks so cute pouting his lips. "Mommy never said so. You don't want to play with me."

"Of course I want to." I grinned and he looked into my eyes. "Okay, how about I take you to a toy store and get you a more solid boat then we can play with that. How about that?"

His eyes lit up like he had just seen Santa Claus. "Oh boy!" He exclaimed and shook his head vigorously. "Take me! Take me! Take me!" He jumped happily.

"Dude, have you gone loco?" Gregory frowned madly at me. "We have an important meeting in the next fifty minutes and you want to take a strange kid you don't even know shopping? Are you insane or something?"

Maybe he was right. Maybe I've really lost my sanity but I still have no idea what type of strange bond keeps linking me to this boy. I have a deep feeling that fate is certain.

I don't know but I just feel happy with him around me all of a sudden.

To be sincere, I don't really care about the meeting right now.

Isn't it just about closing a deal with some important clients from Germany?

I carried the boy and glance at my watch. I let out a deep breath and looked at Greg. "The toy store is just ten minutes away from here. I'll be back in no time, Okay?"

"In no time? You –"

"Perhaps, Marvins and Frances are here. Let them continue from where I stopped. And you too." I left before he could say a single word.

The boy tightened his grasp around my neck and recited a sweet poem on our way out.

DIAMOND POV

I was on the phone with Mom. When I texted her about Corey's weird attitudes earlier, she called.

"Am fucking tired. He has never behaved like that till this pass few days that I dropped him myself." I sighed, rubbing my temple.

"Sweetheart, maybe he woke up on the wrong side of bed today. " Mom chuckled. "You saw it yourself in the morning. He barely ate three spoons of his cereal."

I roll my eyes. My son is a pain in my ass sometimes. Yet, I still cherish him alot.

"Very soon, I'll be moving him to Carter's school. I know he wants to be with his cousin all the time." I leaned my back on my chair and swirl myself on it.

Those two cousins of the same age plays a lot and run round the house like children who haven't seen each other for decades.

"Please let them be. I remember when you and Nadia used to run round the farmyard and rough yourselves in the muds. Sometimes, you end up forming a bud with it and eat it."

"Ew!" Disgusting. I don't believe I did that. "Irritating, mom."

Mom laughed at me, "But back then, it was tasty to you. You even invited Nadia and she foolishly joined you to enjoy the bud."

"We did?" I don't think Nadia would agree to this if she hears it. She's very forgetful just like me sometimes.

"You two fell ill with typhoid. Your PCVs were low and that cost us a lot of money."

Aww. We were really badasses.

The door opened. Mrs. Patricks entered with a medium basket of toys and cookies. Corey walked in beside her, busy sipping a bubble tea I have no idea who bought it for him.

I sat up when Mrs. Patricks placed the basket on my desk. "He just got in, Mom. We'll talk later."

"Okay, dear."

We hung up and I leaned on the desk and began to rummage the basket. "What are these? Who bought them?" I imagine if Mrs. Patricks came to show me some stuff she got for her grandchildren. "Your grandbabies will love them."

"My?" She laughed and pointed down at the cute guy sipping his bubble tea. "Boss got them for him."

My eyes widen in shock. "The CEO?" I glance down at Corey who was staring up at me with big eyes, "What took you there? You couldn't glue your ass with me here and you went to stress my boss."

I pity him.

My son is very fond of shopping when he's opportune.

And with all these things here….geez. they're quite expensive. I think he took him to the most expensive toy store in town.

Just look at the fancy toy ship, a little skyscraper and city, stuffed grinning donkey, flying batman and superman that uses batteries, sport cars with remote control, an ugly looking villain in black coat, a dancing rabbit and a big box of buttery cookies.

And from each of the price tags attached at the back of each packs, I can see that one is cost enough to fill my beetle fuel tank.

"Don't be silly, Ms. Miller." Mrs. Patricks seems like she doesn't feel it after all, it wasn't her money spent. "The CEO is a very nice man. He loves children. You should read in the past news papers how he donated a lot to the cancer children in china."

I ignored her and faced my son who just dump the empty can into the wastebasket. "Your mates are in school learning right now but you choose to come stress my boss. Tomorrow, wether you like it or not, you're going to school. You hear me?"

The next thing that happened made my eyes bug and pulled me up on my feet.

Corey dashed out after saying a very big 'NO!' to my face.

This boy has become more toxic lately. Especially since this morning. I don't know what has gotten over him. Mom said he rose up from the bad side of the bed but I think it's not only that.

Something tells me there's something he wants me to know.

When I reached outside my office, he was nowhere to be seen. I believe he has gone back to meet my boss. Maybe to cry on him that his mother chased him out.

Corey is a boy but when it comes to making up lies with his crying habit, he looks like a girl.

I waited for what seems like hours for him to return and when he didn't…..I started searching the whole place for him. Mrs. Patricks joined me.

This boy won't link me into trouble someday.
