I lay back against the pillows, catching my breath as Elara rested her head on my chest. The room was silent except for our breathing after I fucked her hours long. I brushed my fingers through her hair, and I could already feel the tension in the air. There was something serious on her mind.

Last night's gathering had gone just as planned. Everyone's eyes had been on us, watching me and Elara, with what felt like pride. I'd caught the approving glances, the nods, the subtle smiles. 

This was what I'd worked so hard for—the kind of respect and admiration that made people take notice. Elara had glowed at the moment; there was a sparkle in her eye like she could already picture herself permanently at my side.

Then there was Isabella. She'd been locked away in her room, under guard, just as I'd ordered. But still, she remained in my thoughts. She should've been gone by now, completely out of the picture.
