-----Kaede's POV
Once classes were over, I headed to the cafeteria with Emi and Maria. I was already getting stares in class occasionally, but now that lunch break has arrived, almost everyone has their eyes on me, which only seemed to have gotten worse as we sat down at the cafeteria. Thank god I drank that man's blood, otherwise I'd lose myself being here...
But just as I was about to take out my lunch for Maria, I notice that she seemed to have already brought her own lunch. I guess today would be Wednesday then. To be honest, I haven't really been paying attention to the days here since waking up in that hospital.
Maria: "Everyone seems to be looking over here..."
Kaede: "Sorry. I guess it's a bit uncomfortable, right?"
Maria: "N-not at all! I mean. I understand why..."
Chiyo: "Yaho~ Can we sit with you guys?"
Suddenly, Chiyo, Yui and Aki all come over to our table while Emi seeming to still be getting her lunch.
Kaede: "Sure."
Aki: "Hehe. Kaede seems to be the talk of the school right now."
Maria: "The second years as well?"
Aki: "Mhmm. Even the third years have their eyes on her."
Great, why don't I spread my wings for them while I'm at it if I'm such an attraction.
Chiyo: "Well she did show off the other day during club. Even I'm still- eh? Wait, Kaede. You look different, right?"
Kaede: "I guess."
Aki: "Are your eyes okay?"
Kaede: "They're fine."
Instead of saying the whole lie about me wearing red colored contacts, I just dismiss it. The school has a dress code, but I'm unsure about the rules for contacts. I'd imagine they're fine since I know people wear them because their vision is impaired, but I don't want to risk it.
Emi: "Ohh~ We got a full table!"
Just then, Emi returns with her tray of food, filling up the last seat as we all began eating; everyone except for me.
Maria: "Hmm? Kaede. You're not hungry?"
Kaede: "Not really. Mom made me quite a large breakfast, so yeah."
Yui: "..."
Only Yui knows the true meaning of why I'm not eating. It's honestly a little refreshing to know that at least someone knows about me. My mom on the other hand doesn't exactly know the details, but she knows I'm not a normal human at least.
.....
...
Eventually, school ended as we all went to get changed for the club. Maria did end up eating some of my lunch, but I still wound up with some left. I take a moment to look over my body once more, and it's undoubtedly the same body as the other world now. Makes me wonder what it would be like if my original body didn't match up with this one as much. Everyone's reaction would be far more exaggerated, so I guess that's a silver-lining.
However, once we stepped out into the field, the crowd of people that was watching last time has significantly increased, ranging across all years. Also there seems to be a lot more girls now as there nearly seems to be as much girls and boys now watching.
Boy1: "Haha. Looks like Kaede's drawing us quite a crowd."
Boy2: "Oi, we need to make sure we show them this time. We can't have Kaede showing us up again."
I overhear the boys from the club whispering with one another. I probably wouldn't have heard if I was human, so hearing them want to challenge me ignites my desire to crush their dreams. They want to beat me? We'll see about that.
Ken: "Alright! Never mind the crowd. If they start to bother us, I'll handle it. For now let's warm up with a simple run around the track."
Boy3: "This is our chance."
Boy1/2: "Mm!"
Again, their whispers are clearly heard from me as I can't help but smile. Ken said this is just a warm up, but they seem to want to show off right off the bat. Okay then.
Just then, Yui taps me on the shoulder as I turn to face her.
Yui: "Don't go too crazy."
Kaede: "Pfft."
Yui: "Hmm?"
Kaede: "Could you read my mind or something?"
Yui: "No, but your look just now. I could tell you were thinking something something crazy."
Kaede: "Don't worry~ I'll make it look believable, hehe."
Yui: "Haha. Well it's not like anyone knows. Just try and not break anymore world records."
Kaede: "I'll try."
...
And so, all of us lined up on the track, including Ken and Aki. The boys started on the other half while us girls took the half that was furthest away from the crowd. We'd all be running in the same direction, looping around the track. But I see it differently. I see the boys having a 400m head start. I'm sure it won't be too crazy for me to overtake them before they make a full lap of the 800m.
Suddenly, a whistle could be heard from across the track, most likely from Ken, as we all started to run. I waste no time, kicking off the ground with enough force to immediately propel me ahead of all the girls. But I don't stop the speed as I continue to build up more and more speed as the wind catches my hair. I want to go faster, a lot faster, but this speed is already probably too much as after only 20 or so seconds, I catch up to the boys.
Kaede: "Hmmm. I wonder~"
The boys have reached one of the straights of the oval shaped track as a funny thought came to mind. I immediately put it into action, and as soon as I was behind the boys that were whispering before, I kicked off the ground, propelling me into the air as I proceed flip over their heads. Time looked as though it were in slow motion as while I was upside down in mid-air, I lock eyes with one of the boys as his sweat covered face immediately filled with surprise. I simply smile at them before straightening myself out, landing back on my feet in front of them before running past the rest of the boys.
After passing Ken, my goal was complete as I just maintained my speed until the run was over. Everyone was out of breath, mainly the boys that were trying their hardest to show off, but I kept a calm, collected stature, making sure that they know they're no match for me. Of course the crowd was losing their minds at the stunt I pulled, which seemed to only attract more students who were about to leave school.
Emi: "What the hell was that?!"
Maria: "Yeah!"
Yui: "Kaede..."
Kaede: "Fufufu. Just wanting to give the crowd a show."
Although it may have been a little too much as Ken seems to be going over to the still growing crowd, trying to calm them down.
Boys: "..."
The boys from before, the ones I practically cart wheeled over, are still in disbelief as they look over to me at a distance.
Aki: "I'm honestly not even shocked at this point..."
Chiyo: "Yeah. But I didn't expect for her to do those gymnastics out of nowhere."
Kaede: "Sorry. I'll contain myself next time."
Aki: "N-no! It's okay. We're all just a little shaken up is all, hehe."
So that much was okay? I look over at Yui to confirm, but she just shakes her head with a smile, as if she doesn't even know what to do anymore.
...
We finished the club early, only training for an hour before leaving. But as we were leaving, the hoard of students came rushing over, all of them trying to get close to me.
Ken: "Everyone!-"
I use Ken's call as an opportunity to diffuse the situation. With the crowd of students all eyeing me, I cast a simple charm on all of them, resulting in them stopping in their tracks.
Ken: "Huh?"
I guess Ken's a bit puzzled on how drastic his yell was. No one around us seemed to know what's going on, but if I had done this in the other world, people would be suspicious of me. I guess there's some perks being in this world, hehe.
Kaede: "Alright-"
I grab Yui by her hand as I make a dash to the school gate, followed by Emi and Maria. And once we were about to turn the corner, I undo my charm magic, before sneaking out with the group, letting Ken and Aki deal with the crowd.
Maria: "What happened back there?"
Emi: "I didn't know Ken has such power over the students."
Perfect.
Maria: "I was honestly a bit scared for a moment there. I'm glad to see that they settled down.
Yui: "Pfft."
Yui seems to have understood that I must've had something to do with it just judging on her reaction. But it's only a matter of time for those students to run out and find us. It'll be a hassle to deal with them when I have to feed that man, so-
Kaede: "Yui. I'll meet you at your place?"
Yui: "Eh? Err, sure!"
Emi: "We'll come to! If that's okay with you?"
Yui: "I... I guess?"
Maria: "If we're a bother, then-"
Yui: "No no! Yeah. I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind."
Emi: "Yes~ Kaede's been spending a lot of time with you, so I'm curious hehe."
Maria: "I'll contact my parents then."
Well, seems as though plans have changed.
Kaede: "Okay, then I'll see you all soon!"
And just like that, I dash forward before the crowd could exit the school gates, turning around a corner to cut off line of sight. I feel bad leaving Yui, Emi and Maria like that, but I'll try and make this quick.
