The doorbell rang and Lily jumped up. Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at all three of us. "Expecting anyone?"
My dad shrugged. "Nope. Probably the Girl Scouts or something."
She opened the door, and I heard his voice a few moments later.

I rose and sauntered to the entrance.
His eyes widened when he saw me. He still wore his work clothes and his tie hung loose around his neck. "What are you doing here?" His deep, agitated voice barreled into my eardrum.
