"Ring... Ring... Ring..."
The sound of the bell echoed from Laurel's bag, interrupting Stephen's thoughts. He switched off the electrical current, bent down, and rummaged through the bag until he found the ringing phone.
The screen displayed an unfamiliar number without a name, indicating an unknown caller.
Stephen pondered for a moment, then pressed the answer button and Felicity's eager voice came through the phone.
"Hey, are you there?"
"Felicity?" Stephen was taken aback that she had called him on Laurel's phone.
Relieved to hear Stephen's voice, Felicity exclaimed, "Listen, there's no time. Several well-equipped individuals, definitely not policemen, are coming your way. Get out of there quickly."
"Can you identify them?" Stephen glanced at the unconscious Laurel on the ground and asked with a chuckle.
"Yes, but..."
"Find out about them and let me know."
Stephen didn't hang up the phone; he simply pocketed it. Then he picked up two steel bars from the ground and effortlessly bent them into a U-shape with both hands. He lifted Laurel from the ground and positioned her against the wall, ensuring her body was straight and her arms extended. The U-shaped steel bar wrapped around her arm, securing her to the wall.
The sturdy wall was pierced like tofu, and within moments, Laurel was immobilized.
Poor Laurel had only encountered Stephen twice, and both times she had fainted and ended up restrained with steel bars.
The first time was on the ground, and now she found herself affixed to the wall.
Fortunately, Stephen had refrained from undressing her this time, at least not yet.
"I found out about them," Felicity's voice resonated from the phone.
Stephen answered the call and heard Felicity's surprised voice say, "Most of them were wearing masks, making it difficult to identify their faces or characteristics. However, one person seems to be their leader. Dinah Lance, Quentin Lance's ex-wife, and Laurel's mother. I tried to gather more information about her, but her level of confidentiality matches yours. Do you have any connection with her?"
"No, I have nothing to do with her," Stephen chuckled. "You did well. I'll reward you when I return. For now, I'll hang up."
"Take care of yourself."
Stephen ended the call, deleted the call log, and then pointed to the flashlight that Laurel had brought...
A beam of light illuminated her face while Stephen stood nearby.
The entrance to the facility creaked open.
Ghululu~
A flash grenade was thrown inside, bathing the entire industrial plant in blinding light. Immediately, the door swung open forcefully, and a group of individuals wearing combat uniforms and masks stormed in.
These people were highly organized and experienced. The moment they entered, they aimed their guns at Stephen, their intended target. However... they noticed that the flash grenade hadn't affected him. Instead, he stood there, smiling and observing them.
DA... DA... DA...
The sound of high heels echoed from the doorway as a middle-aged woman with a stoic expression walked in.
Glancing at Stephen and the immobilized Laurel on the wall, she furrowed her brow, preparing to speak.
In that moment, the smiling Stephen moved with lightning speed.
ZI ZI ZI...
Electricity crackled around him as he raised his hand and pointed a finger in their direction.
"Boom."
An immense surge of electric current shot out from his finger, forming a large blue python with a gaping, bloody mouth in mid-air. The snake instantly engulfed the intruders.
Within the snake's belly, amid the electrical spectacle, the guns in the intruders' hands exploded. Screams and groans filled the air as they fell to the ground.
The electrical python roared and abruptly halted in front of the middle-aged woman. It slowly turned, its electrified body surrounding her. Numerous electric snake heads floated beside her, and arcs of electric current crackled around her like suspended wires. The ambient electricity caused her hair to stand on end. She remained motionless, calmly watching Stephen approach without batting an eye.
"Oh, aren't you surprised? Why aren't you surprised?" Stephen asked with a smile.
"Puff through."
The middle-aged woman suddenly sat down, her eyes filled with shock and horror, no longer as composed as before.
"I thought you were so calm due to your power, position, and knowledge," the sudden shift caught Stephen off guard, but he couldn't help bursting into laughter. "Alright, let's start with your identity."
Dinah Lance instinctively glanced at the electrical python beside her, then at her daughter fixed to the wall in the distance, and the fallen agent team. Her throat tightened uncontrollably. The investigation records had failed to mention Stephen's superhuman abilities.
"Have you ever heard of A.R.G.U.S? A.R.G.U.S. is a specialized department under the United States government, responsible for understanding and handling incidents involving superhumans," she explained, her voice filled with shock. "Your actions in Gotham have threatened the security and peace of human society, so we needed to talk to you."
Although government organizations in the DC world didn't possess the same level of recognition as those in the Marvel world, Stephen had heard of A.R.G.U.S. It surprised him, however, to discover that Dinah Lance, Laurel's mother, was a member. It was A.R.G.U.S. that had kept his files confidential.
"So, this is how you choose to initiate a conversation? By sending a group of people to attack me?" Stephen glanced at the agents lying on the ground behind him, shaking his head with a chuckle.
Dinah Lance responded, "It was a necessary protective measure until we were certain of your intentions. Besides, they didn't shoot, did they? Furthermore, you seem to have kidnapped an innocent person. I can't discern your motives. If you release her, I'm willing to offer a sincere apology and have a meaningful discussion."
