Chapter 153 Faora-Ul
"Ah..." Carol Ferris gazed at Lois Lane with an unexpected frown. She had assumed that Stephen would willingly share such vital news about the Kryptonians with Lois. After all, they must be more than just colleagues if they were still involved romantically. So, is there some kind of arrangement between them? Did Stephen tell her the news, and she...Carol Ferris had heard of Lois's name before, but she never expected...
"Don't give me that look. He coerced me using unsavory means," Carol Ferris's eyes communicated to Lois Lane what she was thinking.
"Really?" Stephen looked at Lois seriously. "I thought you were intrigued by me."
"How could I..." Before she could finish her sentence, Lois grabbed Stephen's neck and kissed him passionately.
Carol Ferris blushed at their display of affection.
After a prolonged kiss, Lois Lane exclaimed, "That's not what I intended!"
"I understand, you couldn't help it," Stephen replied with a knowing smile, patting Lois on the shoulder.
Lois Lane shot a disapproving look at Stephen, who smiled back without uttering a word. However, his voice echoed in her mind. "Don't explain. Explaining is admitting, and admitting is concealing. After all, you initiated this. You're a clever person, and you know you can't resist. Instead of resisting, why not use this to your advantage? For instance, you could accompany me to learn detailed information about the Kryptonians firsthand, or use my identity to access and report on news."
Lois remained silent, not because she wanted to accept this offer or even discuss it, but because she felt she had no other option.
The sudden silence from Stephen and Lois Lane made Carol Ferris a little uneasy. She attempted to start a conversation several times but couldn't come up with a suitable topic. Eventually, she stood up and said, "I'll be in the next room. Feel free to call me if you need anything."
"Thank you," Stephen replied with a smile.
As they delved into matters related to the Kryptonians, time quietly slipped away. Night fell, and the streets grew louder.
Many people who were "doomsday" enthusiasts were recklessly reveling in what they believed might be their last night. Crime rates spiked in many places. In cities like Gotham, Star City, and Central City, voluntary police officers and superheroes were kept busy.
Superman, one of the key players, was in a dire situation in a secret base. Kryptonite proved highly effective, and Lex Luthor was relentlessly studying Superman. For the first time, the fear of death enveloped Superman's heart. He now had a deeper understanding of his adoptive father's words about how human feared him and trusted him. He had never harmed humans and had always aimed to be a force for good, yet it had ultimately led to this outcome.
Resentment grew along with the pain.
If it weren't for the military's plan to hand Superman over to General Zod, Lex Luthor might have contemplated dissecting him.
Studying Kryptonians, studying Kryptonite.
Lex Luthor collected data before using the kryptonite crafting tool.
It was a pity that Superman was unaware of his original fate. Here he suffered and was subjected to experiments, while the woman he would have loved lay in the arms of the person who had initiated it, possibly even enjoying herself. It would have been enough to make him go to the darkside.
...
The night passed in silence.
The next morning at 10 o'clock, Carol Ferris knocked on the door with urgency.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Stephen, who had not yet fully-awakened, nearly shot a crimson ray at the door, ready to destroy it.
Carol Ferris was taken aback but cautiously opened the door. She explained, "A flight device is rapidly entering Earth's range, and the military base has sent a signal. They expect to meet Zod's people in 15 minutes, with the intention of handing over Superman to them."
"The authorities have decided to hand over Superman, but I hope you...you can be there to prevent any mishaps, so you should hurry."
Stephen replied, "What's the rush? Tell them to wait!"
"We can wait, but the other party may not!" Carol Ferris emphasized.
"When they arrive, Tell them I know the location of the central treasure. If you're in a hurry, leave!" Stephen waved his hand, and Carol Ferris felt a sudden gust of wind that pushed her out.
With a snap, the door closed.
After a brief hesitation, Carol Ferris reported truthfully.
Fifteen minutes wasn't a long wait at the military base.
Important military generals, along with soldiers and scientific research experts, gathered, with Superman and Lex Luthor among them. They all waited in silence. Soon, a Krypton spacecraft approached from a distance and landed slowly.
Nervousness filled the air.
The hatch opened, and an automatic ladder extended quickly. A woman in black armor descended from the spaceship, wearing a dark steel battle suit and a transparent respirator hood. She strode confidently toward the group of mortals.
Coming to a stop just before them, she first glanced at the nervous humans and then raised her head slightly to look at Superman with pride. "Kal El, I'm Deputy Commander Faora. I greet you on behalf of General Zod," she said before nodding slightly.
Before Stephen, who was suspected of being a Kryptonian, Superman had never seen a member of his own people before. He nodded nervously, and Faora motioned for him to follow.
"Just a moment!" General Swanwick spoke up. "You can't take him just yet."
Faora turned her head with a smirk and continued walking.
"Stop!" Nervous soldiers yelled, but Faora paid them no mind.
Rapid gunfire filled the air, but the bullets simply bounced off Faora's armor, leaving no trace.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
In an instant, Faora retaliated, knocking out several soldiers near the general. She stared at him and spoke slowly, "Are you sure you won't let me take him away?"
"Alright!" General Swanwick drew a green dagger and struck with it.
Ding!
The kryptonite dagger met the armor but couldn't penetrate it. Faora looked down, sneered, and punched the dagger.
"Why isn't it working?" General Swanwick shouted, realizing that kryptonite had no effect on Faora. "Central Codex! If you want the Central Codex, you'll have to wait for someone else to come. He knows its whereabouts!"
Faora's fist halted.
