Chapter 143 General Zod Is Coming?
Seeing June Moone actually daring to do it, Amanda Waller's eyes appeared to burst into flames.
Although June Moone seemed as though she was compelled to act, it was no small feat to strike them down one by one.
There were several instances when Amanda Waller felt the urge to trigger the bomb's remote control, but she resisted. She couldn't discern whether Stephen was confident that she wouldn't dare to activate it, or if he simply didn't care about Betty's life or death.
If Betty were to die, it would likely result in much more than just a slap.
So, despite her anger, she refrained from pressing down.
Joan Moone delivered more than a dozen forceful slaps before Stephen lazily commanded her to stop. She concealed the satisfaction of vengeance in her heart and moved aside, lowering her head.
Amanda Waller struggled to rise, her mouth filled with blood. Looking down at June Moone, she also glanced at Dinah Lance, who was laboring to stand. Suddenly, Amanda Waller drew her gun, pivoted, and fired directly at the soldiers kneeling on the ground.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Her marksmanship was precise and ruthless. Amidst the gun smoke billowing from the barrel, all those soldiers were mercilessly shot dead.
This action left everyone stunned, except for Stephen.
Initially, Betty believed Amanda was about to shoot her in a fit of rage, but she hadn't expected the deaths of these unsuspecting soldiers. Dinah Lance had partnered with Amanda Waller for many years, yet she was taken aback by this aspect of her. As for June Moone? Her body trembled slightly, head bowing even lower.
Expressionless, Amanda Waller dropped the gun, walked over to Betty, and deactivated the bomb around her neck. Then, she turned to Stephen. "Once we're done with these theatrics, we can get down to business."
"I have to hand it to you."
"You've given me quite the spectacle," Stephen remarked, his palms rubbing together as he chuckled softly. Amanda Waller had risen to power within the Secret Organization called Argus but it is more like Club, not by being kind or reasonable, but by embracing the dark side of the organization's work. She is ruthless to her core. "For showing me such amusement, let's talk."
Amanda Waller didn't respond immediately; instead, she cast a glance at Laurie and Thea, who had just finished showering by the door.
"She's Oliver's sister, isn't she?" Amanda Waller asked in a hushed tone.
"Will release her once I've had my fun," Stephen replied.
His "fun" referred to the psychological torment that had left Green Arrow and Black Arrow worried for Thea's safety. However, it was evident that Amanda Waller didn't interpret it that way.
Which was reasonable. Few would suspect that Thea had colluded with Stephen in her own kidnapping!
"I can pretend nothing happened earlier. I can also pretend I wasn't here, and I'll return Betty to you. But... I want a concrete piece of information," Amanda Waller stated, maintaining her composure as she added another bargaining chip. "I can consider what you do in the future as flying under the radar."
"These conditions don't exactly excite me, but... let's start by discussing the information you're after," Stephen asked casually.
Amanda Waller contemplated his response and spoke slowly. "Are there aliens on Earth?"
"What has Argus discovered?" Stephen's interest was piqued instantly.
Amanda Waller wouldn't pose such a question without reason. Even if they had come across individuals with abilities slightly different from normal people, it was unlikely that they would jump to the conclusion of extraterrestrial involvement. She must possess fairly conclusive information, likely originating from sources beyond Earth.
Had they discovered Superman? Unlikely. Superman shouldn't have uncovered the details of his own origin at this point. Even if they'd stumbled upon an individual with an special abilities, they would probably only be connected to meta abilities or meta-humans. After all, Central City's Meta-Human had introduced numerous individuals, and other cities likely harbored them too. The notion of extraterrestrial beings seemed far-fetched.
So... General Zod?
One of the few Kryptonians who survived the destruction of Krypton, the military general of the planet Krypton, was imprisoned in the Phantom Zone due to his rebellious behavior. After escaping during Krypton's explosion, he sought to rebuild the planet and locate Krypton's central treasure.
Upon learning of Superman's arrival on Earth, he aimed to transform Earth into a second Krypton and acquire the central treasure. It could be said that the era of the Justice League was ushered in by General Zod's arrival!
If Stephen recalled correctly, there seemed to be an alien signal received by the United States on Ellesmere Island in the movie.
"Answer me, give me the answer!" Amanda Waller stared at Stephen sharply. His peculiar reaction to her question about aliens on Earth had caught her attention. It appeared more like genuine curiosity rather than feigned ignorance—a curiosity about how others might have become privy to this secret.
He must know something!
"Weren't you able to deduce it all?" Stephen responded casually, a chuckle accompanying his words.
"Seriously... there are aliens? What else do you know!" Amanda Waller's voice grew deeper.
"I've already given you the answer." Stephen chuckled and shook his head. Amanda Waller clenched her teeth, conveying an attitude of 'I know, but I'm just not saying it.'
Amanda Waller gritted her teeth and spoke with intensity. "If it concerns the safety of the entire planet, even if the cost is high, I don't mind—my own life included."
"Do you believe I might destroy Earth before the aliens arrive?" Stephen squinted and offered a faint smile. "Guess what, I might just do that."
"No, you wouldn't. If Earth were obliterated, where would you have to go? Even if you managed to survive, all of this would cease to exist, and you'd be left utterly bored to death," Amanda Waller affirmed confidently.
"Perhaps," Stephen agreed with a nod, giving Amanda Waller some relief. He continued, and just as Amanda was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he added, "But maybe I can devastate the United States without destroying the entire planet. You can't prevent me—no one can. The power of a single country? Hah, it seems to me I've been thinking too small. So, get a move on with your search for information. They... will be arriving soon."
They?
Are there multiple aliens?
Amanda Waller glanced reluctantly, and turned, ready to depart.
"Don't forget about these corpses," Stephen called out.
Amanda Waller huffed and then instructed Dinah Lance and Joan Moone to load the bodies into the car. The three of them left the villa in two vehicles.
"They..."
Laurie and Thea approached, unable to contain their curiosity.
"A.R.G.U.S. will handle it," Stephen replied casually, his gaze shifting to Betty. "But let's talk. How did you catch the attention of the Organization like 'A.R.G.U.S.'?"
