23 Chapter 23: An incident
For the next couple of minutes, Seiya and Eriri discussed illustration and other stuff like comic tournaments and market trends while Utaha also joined the conversation talking about her novel. Tomoya was listening at first since he was also an otaku but after seeking no way to enter the conversation, he inserted himself on phone.
Seiya also found out that Eriri and Utaha knew each other for a few years since both of them were young and talented individuals who held high regard in the ACG community. They also understand each other's profession and respect it but outside the circle they are rivals.
"Crap, Eriri, I have gotta go. My favorite anime is about to start!" Tomoya suddenly stood and announced.
"Calm down, Aki-kun. What about Eriri? You should go with the lady." Seiya asked. Seiya was unsure if Tomoya was actually the MC of the show.
If he remembered correctly Tomoya Aki from the show, cared for his friends. Maybe MC was still young and ignorant of outside his anime world. Seiya at least wanted Tomoya to take Eriri with him since she would be left alone and he can't accompany her as he has a date.
Eriri looked down and was a little sad with her childhood friend acting like an idiot all the time but she was at least happy that there was someone like Seiya who treated her like a lady.
"That's right. Even though Sawamura-san beat the shit out of you, you shouldn't abandon your childhood friend, Childhood friend-san." It was Utaha.
Eriri's anger suddenly soared but she controlled her temperament since it will give more reason to Utaha, her nemesis to tease Eriri and call her tsundere. Besides, she wants to act ladylike in front of Seiya for the time being.
"Please call me by my name," Tomoya laughed wryly, "I am sorry, Kanie-senpai, Kasumigaoka-senpai but I have a couple of other matters to attend. Besides, she can go home by herself, right Eriri?"
"Fuck off!"
"See?" Tomoya waved his hand and rushed out of the café.
"Sawamura-san, you have a terrible choice in men," Utaha said with her grin covered by hand.
"Says you, dating a narcissist on the first week of the school." Eriri frowned but then sighed. She was upset about what happened all day but there is nothing she could do. "Anyway, we should wrap things up too. Seiya-senpai, as a payment for helping me, I will be paying as a treat." Eriri smiled cheerfully.
"You got that girl." Seiya also smiled but then felt a pinch coming from pouting Utaha. He knew that Utaha would have a lot of questions for him since he was a little close with Eriri.
Then they wrap their stuff and came out of the café. Seiya asked Eriri if he should call a taxi but Eriri refused the offer as she already called the family driver for the ride.
Eriri was waiting for her car when she felt a big hand on her head. She turned around and saw Seiya looking at her with a smile.
"Remember, this devilishly handsome and talented guy doesn't have many friends but doesn't mind giving them a hand if they need his support." Seiya raised his thumb and winked.
To be honest he wanted to apologize for the past incident and what happened at the store but because of his narcissist ability, it was hard for him to say such out loud. Even though he started going out and start interacting with people, he was truly honest with his family only like his aunt and father.
He couldn't even confess to Utaha whom he cared and liked dearly even though it had been only a week since he started dating.
So for time being, he at least wanted to give hand to Eriri, his childhood friend. Even though she was grumpy and short-tempered, she was a good girl with just inferiority issues.
"Is that so? Well, I will take this offer." Eriri smiled brightly then turned her attention to a little annoyed Utaha and smirked, "Besides, you should focus on your girl more."
Seiya also noticed Utaha's behavior but there was nothing he could do. He does care for her but it doesn't mean that he would just start explaining everything on the spot.
Then after just waiting for a minute, Eriri's driver arrived and she left with smiles on her face.
Seiya then looked at Utaha who was still pouting.
"Jealous?"
"I am not jealous. My 'boyfriend' just tripped over a girl, turns out to be an 'old acquaintance', and checked her heartbeat with his hand on her chest. Then he spent 30 minutes talking to that girl, while he was on a date with her girlfriend. Then he started searching for head lice on the blond-haired girl and after suggesting her wash her head with acid, he sent her away. Why would I b jealous?" Utaha completed her sentence in a single breath.
Seiya smiled and spoke, "Let's just say that I was once a bad boy."
He can't simply explain the past incident with her since he wanted to respect Eriri's privacy too.
"Oh you *are* bad boy." Utaha also smiled and then grabbed his hand. She knew that it was something that Seiya didn't want to discuss so she didn't pester him more. "There is still some time before we head home. Wanna hit convenience store… you know… protection in case our juniors pick the heat."
"Whoa! Bold move eh?" Seiya smirked and hit his pocket, "2 of them."
"Great. Then I want ice cream." Utaha chuckled.
Seiya agreed and after crossing a few blocks, he spotted an ice cream shop with a pretty purple-haired girl.
"Flavor?" Seiya asked.
"Strawberry." Utaha smiled.
"Then I want vanilla." Seiya waved his hand and ran away.
"Wait what…?" Utaha was confused when she realized what Seiya meant and chuckled.
To be honest, she never would have imagined that she would get a boyfriend on the first day of school and a narcissist on that.
She was a person who wants to be left alone. She doesn't like idle chitchatting with other girls, she doesn't like to go karaoke with people called 'friends' and she doesn't want to engage in any kind of love triangle.
She just wanted to be herself.
But even so…
Even a loner wants someone to rely on.
Without even realizing it, Seiya became part of her daily life, no, she would say Seiya slipped in her life as he adapted her personality and blend in, even with his narcissist personality.
He was calm and collective but a big mystery inside him. No, she was not talking about Seiya Junior, yeah it was also a mystery but she was going to discover it, she was talking about his big change and how easily he adopt new skills.
Since birth, she had this unique ability to read people like an open book if she spends some time with them. Even though she couldn't identify all of Seiya's personality, what she discovered was enough for her to trust Seiya.
She then found a bench across the alleyway and decided to with there.
While crossing, she noticed some thugs smocking citrates.
'Tch, discussing.' She made a disgusted face. She doesn't know why these people are wasting their time like this. Well, they were all mobs for her anyway so she ignored her.
"Where ya going, beauty?"
"Are you alone, wanna have some fun with us."
She was about to leave when two other thugs surprised her from behind and pushed her into the alleyway.
They were all tall muscular men with visible body cuts befitting for fighters and there were five of them.
Fearing the outcome, she was also looking for Seiya but for some reason, he was taking way long.
Utaha slowly started to turn pale as she realized what their motives were. She was in an alleyway with a less crowded street. She knew that she was in danger.
She knew that if she screams, they would jump on her to stop her scream. If she shows fear, they would corner her more and more so she mustered her courage and decided to speak.
"Please leave the way. I don't have time for all of this." Utaha spoke with narrowed eyes.
However, just as she spoke, one guy slammed the wall behind her so hard that caused her to let out a shriek.
"Come on beauty. We will just have a little bit of fun. Believe me, ya will enjoy it!" A guy spoke and licked his lips while ogling her body.
"Yeah, all pretty girls hesitate but then enjoy the party."
"You won't be leaving with an empty stomach!"
"Hahaha!"
Utaha was so disgusted by their remarks that she wanted to run or scream but she was calmed and looking for a chance to slip away.
But then a flash of light went through all of them. They all turned around and noticed a tall guy holding a phone.
"Let that girl go or your stupid faces will be licking police station."
Utaha curved a bright smile as the ray of hope; Seiya had finally arrived on time.
"Tch, talk about flies."
"Let's go. We will find a better place."
"What a waste."
Thugs grunted but ultimately left.
Utaha smiled and hugged Seiya tightly, "Thank you, Seiya-kun."
"It was… my fau… let's leave." She felt a pat from Seiya but his tone was a little odd.
She didn't say anything and started walking with him with her arm wrapped around Seiya's hand.
After a brief moment of silence, Utaha decided to speak, "It was not a bad date for the first time I think, right?"
"Yeah…"
Utaha felt odd since Seiya was acting strange but then she noticed Seiya's other hand holding the phone.
The phone was crushed like a can and blood was dripping from his hand!
Utaha winded her eyes and called her boyfriend, "Seiya-kun, your hand-"
However, she saw Seiya first time in her life in grief and despair. His face was pale, his eyes were like dead fish, and tears were leaking out from his eyes.
"Seiya-kun… you… tears…?"
Seiya touched his cheek to ascertain what Utaha had just said, "Tears?"
