Zurie froze...
After a while, she began to feel her legs, she stepped back taking one step at a time in fear. She sat down on the bed in shock. She had wanted to wake-up Harley, but she changed her mind, it was useless. Harley would worsen this whole thing, so she thought. Zurie climbed up the bed, drawing very close to Harley, and clinging tightly.
Harley turned and continued to face the other side of the wall snoring even louder, zurie clinged even more tightly. Her heart was pounding loudly. She wished there was a way she could tell Harley to keep her voice down, as there was some kind of spirit around the vicinity.
" Apocalypse of Amaya ! " It continued to ring in zurie's head. She used her hands to close her eyes, feeling very frustrated.
" That cannot be anything good, it feels scary already. I am definitely returning it ! " She thought within herself.
" zurie peharps you should play some music, it'd help you not to think about unnecessary things right now. " She told herself, reaching for her cellphone. She plugged in an earpiece. She opened a music application installed inside of the phone. She began to play 'sit still look pretty ' by Daya. She increased the phone's volume to the limit.
She enjoyed the lyrics, but wasn't in a hurry to forget why she had begun to play the song in the first place. She wouldn't even move an inch. The music became useless at some point, as zurie kept wrestling with her urge to make out an image of what Amaya probably looked like in her head. Even in the novel, Amaya was never for once mentioned. Hadn't Fiona spoken about Amaya, zurie wouldn't have ever thought that there was any of such a character in the equation. Zurie's eyes shoned brightly. She layed still, but her mind was dutifully engaged. She couldn't sleep, yet it was difficult keeping watch.
****************
" Zurie wake up ! " Zurie felt someone tap her.
" Harley I didn't sleep all night, do not even bother with me, I am not getting out of bed till its noonday. " Zurie mumbled.
" Zurie c'mon, I want to show you something. " The voice came again, shaking her legs profusely.
" Can't it wait ? " Zurie grumbled with her eyes still closed.
" It cannot. ! " The voice replied firmly.
" Alright there you have it, what is it ? " She opened her eyes...
" Mom ? " Zurie called with extreme surprise !
" You came home early ? You were not suppose to be back till six in the morning. What time is it ? " Zurie asked still trying to get free from the hold of sleep, simultaneously searching for her cellphone as well.
" Huh ? It's just past midnight ? " Zurie gasped.
" How did I even come to the point of falling asleep in the first place. " She asked realizing that she still managed to fall asleep after the much struggle.
" Come with me Zurie, you must come now, there something you need to see ! " Her mother replied almost in a whisper
" ( Zurie made a face ? ) Why aren't you replying any of my questions, why does it seem like you're whispering and where are we even going to ? " Zurie asked all at once.
" I just want to show you something outside. I have to return to work as soon as possible. " The woman replied.
Zurie became more puzzled.
" Mom it's past midnight! ( Zurie yelled but brought low her voice immediately, realizing that Harley was still fast asleep in the same position she laid. ) Besides we cannot leave Harley all by herself. It'd be dangerous doing so. " Zurie insisted.
" Zurie it's important. Do not worry, we would not be long ! " Her mother stressed.
Zurie gave a long sigh...
" Okay... " She replied.
Her mother turned and began to lead the way, zurie followed, maintaining some distance. Her mother had begun to act just as weird as she was acting as well, and zurie was confused as to why she was acting that way. The woman opened the door gently not really making any disturbing sound, most probably because of Harley, so zurie thought.
The woman sat down on the pavement that led to their house. Zurie stood watching, still maintaining some distance.
" It's creepy out here, I am scared mom!, ( Zurie said rubbing her arms with her hands. ) You haven't said why you can back early though. Zurie reminded.
" Come sit. " Her mother urged her. Her mother's voice echoed like Fiona's. Zurie was skeptical to draw closer. A bigger part of her kept whispering to her that she had been scammed by some spirit trying to use her mother like an undercover.
" But that's my mother ? " She asked within her full of doubts
Her mind flashed back to a novel she had read at the local library. It was a short story on demons and spirits. She remembered how Eve, a girl in the book, was able to tell if there was an unusual presence in the vicinity. She would always strike a lighter on, flashing it in the face of the target. It was believed that spirits were generally afraid of fire, and so they would reveal themselves if the spirits had cloned someone else...
Zurie felt her pocket, she touched her lighter. She usually kept a lighter handy after she read that book in the library, she had longed for a day she would try out the idea, apparently, she had no idea what she was craving for.
" Arrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhgg " zurie screamed as she stroke the lighter on flashing it before her mother's face. ( The woman was startled ) The breeze helped spread the fire, zurie watched it enlarged, but it went out quicker than she had expected. Her mother was still sitted looking at her in surprise.
" Are you okay Zurie? " Her mother asked
Zurie was still breathing hard. She nodded slowly affirmatively
" Come sit, I want to talk to you about something I thought you should have known for a long time before now, the time is finally right ! " The woman said.
Zurie was choiceless, she came down sitting close to her mother.
" Zurie it is high time you met Amaya the greatest Amazon that ever existed ! "
