The night passed by after 17 minutes.
But for Kilnareth and his friends, it felt like it was way longer than that.
Of course, for a settlement overrun my hostile monsters, there was bound to be destruction. The houses had large holes in them, the ground was blown up multiple times by creepers, and the whole settlement was in ruins. At least the Campfire was still intact.
Outside of the settlement.
"Die, you burning piece of shit!"
Uni was in the midst of battling a burning zombie with his bare hands.
What happened to his sword?
First, he died and it was picked up by a zombie. Then the zombie dropped it, and a nearby zombie picked it up instead. He killed the second zombie and the sword dropped on the floor. Next thing Uni knew, he heard a hissing sound and the death screen appeared in front of him.
TL;DR His sword got blown up by a creeper
Since it way day time, all undead hostile mobs will burn under the sun so there groups of skeletons and zombies that were burning all over the settlement.
Most of the mobs have already either burnt to death or exploded from a creeper. Uni was just finishing off the last remnant of the zombie horde.
Kil stood in the middle of the ruined settlement, crouching by the Campfire and staring intently into the flames. If an expression could be read from this, there would be a deadpan face with soulless eyes staring into nothing.
Hex walked up to Kil to accompany his dismayed friend.
"Welp, this place looks like shit." (Hex)
"..." (Kil)
Kil didn't respond and continued crouching by the fire.
He wouldn't be this distraught if he had the resources he collected. It would be a cinch to repair the settlement then. Unfortunately, a creeper entered his house when it was overrun and it blew up nearby his resource chest and all the items inside dropped on the ground. Now this wouldn't be a problem, only a hindrance, but then a second creeper came by the house and another explosion occurred in Kil's home, destroying all the items that were dropped on the ground for good.
Now, they were back to square one.
If this was a singleplayer world, and he was alone, he would've logged out of the game already. Unfortunately for him, he now had to live with three people in this world.
"Ow!" Kil's vision shook as he took a jab from Hex.
"Get up you fucking pussy. Don't tell me you're gonna cry over a video game?"
Though the words were harsh, Kil knew this was Hex's roundabout way of comforting him. If it were any other person playing with them, they would've already logged off hearing those hurtful words.
He was glad he took the invitation.
"Fuck you." (Kil)
"No, fuck you." (Hex)
Kil punched at Hex, revenge for punching him. Both of them didn't mind since a punch only takes half a heart anyways.
"Hey! You two lovebirds done jerking each other off?!" Off in the distance, the two of them heard Uni's angry shout. He was currently running towards them, as well as Joro who just finished off a skeleton with a Stone Axe.
The four of them gathered around the Campfire once more.
"So, any plans?" (Joro)
"Well, obviously we need to fix the houses. I think we lost a bed, some chests, and the resources Joro and I gathered earlier." (Kil)
"Me go hunting!" (Joro)
"Wait, who the hell made Kil the leader?" (Uni)
"Uni and I can make a mine nearby. We can go get your stone and find some more materials down there." (Hex)
"Like hell I'd go mining!" (Uni)
Just then, Uni heard the sound of something being taken out and saw Joro looking at him with a Stone Axe in hand. The sight of doge wielding a Stone Axe, though hilarious, instilled a bit fear in him. Out of the four of them Joro was the best at PvP while he was second and Kil being the worst fighter in the group.
"Okay! Okay! Don't kill me!" (Uni)
"Good boy! Now come with me and let's get some wood to craft pickaxes." (Hex)
Hex then punched Uni. He was already annoyed that Joro threatened him, and now he was going to be stuck to Hex. The two began punching each other but Hex managed to somehow escape and ran off into the woods. Of course, Uni gave chase and followed Hex.
"Should we let those two go off alone?" (Joro)
"Look on the bright side, the only thing that can kill them down there is themselves." (Kil)
"...Good point." (Joro)
And now Joro and Kil went off as well to collect resources above ground.
...
"Alright, now how do we craft a pickaxe?" (Uni)
Uni and Hex had just done cutting down some trees and were now in their inventory with their newly acquired logs.
"Didn't Kil said we can look up how to craft things through the JEI thing we downloaded?" (Hex)
Normally in Vanilla, the inventory screen would have the regular inventory interface on the screen. But since they had JEI, in addition the recipe book which is completely redundant now, they now had a list of pages on the right of the inventory interface with a search bar below it.
Uni typed in the word 'pickaxe' and sure enough, the JEI showed only a page of items that had the word 'pickaxe' in it. He clicked on the image of the Wooden Pickaxe and then it showed the recipe for it: three Wood Planks(Any) and two Sticks. It also showed the required block/tool needed to craft the item which, in this case, was a Crafting Table.
"Damn, why didn't we have this when we first played the game? This would've been super convenient!" (Uni)
"Maybe Kil was worried that you were too retarded to use mods. After all, you had already played the game and you asked how to craft a pickaxe? How much dumber can you get?" (Hex)
Uni felt like a vein was going to pop when he listened to Hex's nagging.
The constant bickering between the two had always been around even way before they met Joro and Kil. Hex and Uni had been long time friends and had met through Call of Duty where they were initially strangers who liked trashtalking to each other. So, in a way, their constant bickering was a form of their friendship.
"Don't tell me you're going to ask how to craft a Crafting Table next?" (Hex)
"Shut it! I know how to make one!" Uni furiously said. Among all the things he remembered about the game from the past, he at least knew the recipe for the Crafting Table which was very simple: four Wooden Planks in a 2x2 crafting grid, which was the perfect size for the crafting grid in the inventory interface.
Uni quickly broke down the Oak Wood Log he just got into Oak Wood Planks, and then crafted the planks into a Crafting Table. He immediately placed the Crafting Table into his hotbar, exited the interface and then turned towards Hex with the Crafting Table equipped.
"See! I know how to make one—"
Just as he was about to proudly place his Crafting Table in front of Hex, he saw him with a Crafting Table of his own and was already wielding a Wooden Pickaxe.
There was a brief moment of silence before Uni began smacking Hex with the Crafting Table he just made. The latter had the upper-hand though, since a Wooden Pickaxe was slightly better than bare fists when fighting.
[Unicorn666 was slain by Hex]
Hex was laughing like a maniac while Uni was back at spawn seething in rage while shouting various and unique curses.
[Kilnareth: F]
[Joro: F]
The other two sent their F's in the chat the moment they saw the kill notification.
...
Fun and games aside, they still needed to go mining and gather stone and other resources for the group.
When Uni made his way back to Hex, he was still laughing. To make it up though, Hex gave Uni a Stone Pickaxe.
Hex had already begun making a stairway mine and had mined enough Cobblestone to make two Stone Pickaxes. After all, stone was way better than wood so why keep using Wooden Pickaxes when they could make the stone versions?
Uni still hasn't forgiven Hex though, so he smacked Hex with the newly crafted Stone Pickaxe which made him really worried now since that attack brought him down to three hearts!
"Stop you fucking idiot! I already gave you the pickaxe!" (Hex)
Hearing that distressed voice from his dear friend, Uni felt satisfied and stopped attacking Hex.
Luckily for Hex, he managed to pick up some Apples when the leaves of the trees they chopped down started to decay so he was able to fill up his hunger and regenerate some of his health, bringing him back to five and a half hearts.
"Hey, how much stone do you think we need?" (Uni)
"Dunno. Guess we'll ask Kil." (Hex)
...
Meanwhile, deep in the Dark Oak forest.
Kil was running around the thick Dark Oak trees when heard a thunk on the tree nearby him. Embedded on the bark of the tree was an arrow, which came from a skeleton that was intent on killing Kil. He was already in the midst of battling with this undead creature.
The biggest downside of Dark Oak forests is that their canopies completely cover the whole forest with a shadow. This means that undead mobs won't burn even in day time since they need to be under direct sunlight in order to be set on fire.
Even though Kil was alone battling the skeleton, this was not a challenge for him. Dispatching this skeleton was as easy as farming Wheat.
Kil peeked around the tree and the moment the skeleton saw him, it let an arrow loose towards him. He immediately ducked back under the cover of the tree and the arrow completely missed its target.
'Now's my chance!' Kil thought. One of the weaknesses of a skeleton was that there was a three second gap after it shoots an arrow before it notches another one. That three second window was enough for Kil to kill it.
Kil ran out of the cover of the Dark Oak tree and rushed towards the skeleton. He jumped and then smashed with his Stone Axe with full force upon the skeleton's skull. Even though there was no body location damage in this game, a jump attack was considered as a critical attack so Kil's downward jump slash, coupled with the attack stat of the Stone Axe being slightly higher than that of a sword, took a huge chunk of the skeleton's health.
The skeleton was knocked back by a block before receiving another blow from Kil which was just a normal attack, but it was enough to deplete the skeleton's health down to zero. The skeleton fell on the ground and then poofed into a cloud of smoke. On the ground was a single Bone and a few clumps of green Experience Orbs that Kil took.
Kil looked down on his stats: five hearts and four hunger points left. It was a good thing that a player won't die of hunger in normal survival mode but if the hunger points go down to three, he would be unable to sprint as well as regenerate health.
"God, I hope Joro collects enough food."
Just then, he saw Hex's message through the in-game chat.
[Hex: Hey Kil, how much stone do we need?]
Kil thought for a bit. Considering that a Stone Pickaxe has a durability of 131, meaning they can mine 131 blocks before the pickaxe breaks, he estimated that they would at least get a stack* and a half of Cobblestone along with other blocks and resources they find underground before their pickaxe runs out of durability.
But Kil felt like he shouldn't worry that much since they could just craft new ones.
[Kilnareth: Preferably two and a half stacks from each you. That should be six stacks of stone in total.]
[Unicorn666: That many? What are you gonna use all of that cobblestone for?]
[Kilnareth: It's a necessary building material and majority of my builds use stone. Anyway, It's not like I'm gonna hog it all. Some crafting recipes require stone so the more of it is better for us.]
[Hex: aight, we'll be back with a fuck ton then.]
[Kilnareth: A fuck ton is also good.]
Now that he had set an objective for the two, and the skele-fiasco finished, he went back to chopping down wood.
