Chapter 2

Selene's POV.

I swallowed hard at his words.

"Father, who is he?" I asked, gazing at my father who was frozen, unable to respond.

The stranger laughed heartily, a burst of laughter so deep that I could feel it pierce deep into me.

"Father! What's going on?!" I glanced at my mother who looked shocked as well.

"Oh lovely, it's a pity your father had to keep this away from you." The man uttered, his voice sounded like something I had never heard before.

I turned to gaze at him, from his appearance down to his long black flowing hair, I needed no one to tell me that he wasn't from around here but a mysterious being.

"Who are you?" I fiercely asked, anger and confusion buried in my eyes.

"Oh darling, you don't have to be so blunt."

"I said, who are you!" I yelled, losing my temper this time.

I turned to my father, he took a step backward, his eyes filled with worry.

"I wasn't expecting you." My father finally spoke, and for the first time, I felt great fear in my father's voice.

"Really?"

"Why have you forgotten so soon about our bargain, Alpha Zen?" The stranger uttered, a mischievous grin not leaving his face.

"You said you will give us time!" My father spoke.

"Time?"

"It's already twenty-one years Alpha, you know our agreement, but you decide to go against it, that's not how things are done Alpha." His deep blue eyes sparkled in the dark.

At that point, I was losing it. No one was saying a word to me leaving me completely puzzled.

"Father."

"Mother."

"Someone should tell me what's going on," I screamed, my heart pounded faster than ever.

The piercing laughter was heard again.

"You should have done better, Alpha, but since you decided to keep this away from your daughter. I guess I will introduce myself." Saying this, he walked towards me, each step he took radiated so much power.

"I am Devon, god of the underworld, Lucifer himself, and I am here to take my mate home."

Lucifer!

My heart leaped.

I have heard so many stories about this name, and nothing pleasant was said.

"Your mate?" I asked.

"Yes, my mate."

Confused, I turned to another, her eyes soaked with tears.

"Say something!"

"Selene, it isn't our fault." My mother muttered, "Your father had no choice but to do it for the safety of the pack. We never knew that this day would come so soon."

I bit my lower lip angrily, and walked towards my father, my gaze not leaving him.

"What is going on father? It's time you say something."

Alpha Zen sighed. He glanced at the stranger who stood watching and back at me.

"Selene, we shouldn't have kept this away from you. We never knew this would affect you in a way."

"What father? Affect me? This is my life!"

"Twenty-one years ago, our pack was at the edge of losing everything to the Blood Moon pack. Our pack and theirs have been at war long before I was born. That period, your mother gave birth to you, and I was at the edge of losing you, your mother, and the pack if any war broke out…" he paused, the sobs of my mother filling our ears.

"I needed to do something, I needed to stop the ongoing war, a war my father couldn't put an end to. So, I visited a witch who assured me that there was only one being who could grant my request. I was desperate, so I agreed and together, we visited Lucifer." He paused, glanced at Devon, and back at me.

"He promised he would help, but I will offer him an exchange after the war is settled. Not knowing what it was, I agreed, and during the war, our pack marvelously defeated the Blood Moon pack. I was in ecstasy and completely forgot about our bargain. Until one night, your mother woke up with a scream, stating your disappearance. Days passed, and we searched for you. I almost gave up until he appeared to me and your mother with you in his arms. He agreed to hand you over only if you were given back to him as his mate at age twenty-one. We agreed, and as soon as he left, I went to the witch to appease him to change his need. The witch assured me that all is settled." His eyes were filled with so much certainty, and tears welled up in my eyes.

"I never knew he would return Selene, you have to believe me."

I froze at the spot.

My heart crashed.

I felt like a huge stone had fallen on me.

"Wait .." I muttered, turned to the stranger, and back at my father.

"Am I his mate?"

My father nodded, and my mother cried loudly.

"No!"

"Never!" I screamed. I turned to him with clenched teeth.

"I am not your mate, and I will never be your mate!'

Suddenly he burst out into tremendous laughter.

"No one can stop me from having you, sweetheart."

"I am not your sweetheart!"

He laughed louder.

"Of course, you are. You are just too blinded by surprise to see it, and now, I am taking you home," he said firmly, the smile on his face vanished.

My mother fell on her knees.

"Please don't take her! Take me instead."

A disgusted look appeared on his face.

"I should take you?" And do what with you?"

My mother sobbed uncontrollably.

"Selene is everything we have, she is the future Alpha of this pack, we need her, her people need her."

"And I need her too," he affirmed, his brows twisted in a frown.

Immediately, I felt a strong grip on my right wrist.

"Let me go!"

I screamed and tried to pull away, but his grip was so strong that I could feel my bones crushed.

"Come with me at once!" A black portal appeared, and a powerful wind began to blow.

"Let me go!" I cried, tears running down my face.

"Please let me go!" I pleaded as he dragged me towards the portal. My mum ran after us. I stretched my left hand to reach her, but with each step the stranger took, it felt like we were miles apart.

"Father!" I screamed, but my father stood still, not doing anything to save me.

At once, a large black smoke covered my face. I began to choke, slowly, I felt my breath leaving my body, and the last picture I saw was that of my mother collapsing before deep darkness overshadowed me.
