They had decided there was less chance of Geoffrey knowing what was being said if, the gods forbid, he was there and aware of their presence. Felan knew Lex had said, ‘Be silent’ and ‘Follow me.’ The team often used simple Elven phases this way when they were going up against an enemy, as long as the enemy themselves weren’t elves.

They stayed on the lawn rather than the paths as they moved stealthily to the fountain, each man keepinghis particular senses open for any sign that their presence had been noted.

Felan pointed to the nymph that Bay had told them about. Lex touched it, drawing his hand back in shock.

::Moni?:: Tonio asked, moving beside him.

::She’s alive.:: Lex replied, reverting to English for Felan’s sake.

“Alive?” Felan whispered in horror.
