A Loner Inside The Novel

A boy. Broken after all he has been through. His life has become as miserable as it can ever be. His only wish is to disappear from this world. There is nothing left that can bind him to this world anymore. Not his family, friends or anyone else. Nonetheless, his hollow eyes hold a tiny bit of hope, a little expectancy from this life... Or rather from the death. A new person; A free-spirited person; A loner inside a novel who promises himself not to form any bonds with others. He thought of relationships as nausea, which would eventually restrict his freedom again, crushing the-already-broken state of him completely. At least, that's what he thought... ======================================== Hello everyone! This is my first novel. So, your feedbacks are really precious to me. Theodore Miller (1)

"By the way, what is your name?"

I froze on the spot. My lips twitched a little bit. Fortunately, Ember didn't seem to notice it. I had hoped she wouldn't have asked this question. But apparently luck was not on my side. I reluctantly turned around to face Ember. She had raised one of her eyebrows.

I had to come up with a plausible excuse so that I could cover up the fact that I didn't know my name yet. Maybe I could use a random name. But that would only put me in a more troublesome situation later on.

'Forget about a plausible excuse! How am I even supposed to find any excuse as to why I don't know my own name?!'

Bothered by how long it took for me to answer the simplest question, her curiosity started to extinguish.

"Hurry up, I have a conference to attend!"

"Er..."

I used all my brain cells to think of a way to get out of this situation. The only information I had about this world was from the novel. So I skimmed the novel. I tried to recall every part of the novel where the protagonist was in the academy. But there was nothing I could use at all.

As I was unable to answer her question. Her curious expression turned into a disappointed one.

"You don't want to tell your name to me? Alright then, goodbye."

Ember turned her back and started to move away from me. Before it was too late, I had to do something. Or else I would get blacklisted by one of the key characters of the novel before the official opening of the academy. And considering how bad of a temper she has, I might even die again, which I didn't really want after just coming back to life. My mind was going to blow up from over-thinking.

'Black hair, grey eyes, black hair, grey eyes, black hair, g-'

'Of course! How did I even forget about this!'

With the emergence of the demons, not only did the mana appeared, but also personal windows which floated in the air upon the awakaner's request. They showed the progress of an awakener. These screens would later be called as...

After looking at the name section of the status screen, I quickly closed it off and shouted.

"Theodore Miller!"

Ember halted her steps and turned his head slightly to peek at me. Seeing my serious face, she had a smirk on her face. But it vanished away at the next instant as if it was never there.

"My name is Theodore Miller, Miss Bell."

"Change of mind?"

Now that I got her attention back, I composed my self. My expression turned into a calm and indifference one.

"No, you misunderstood, Miss Bell. I was just mesmerized by your beauty."

'Bullshit, I say!'

Being born into an influential noble household of Bell, she had gotten used to empty praises. Knowing this, I didn't expect any reaction from her. Instead, she feigned ignorance to my flattery.

"Hmm... So you are one of my students after all."

'What? Does that mean I am in 1-A, the same classroom where the protagonist and his friends are?'

"I suppose."

"Okay. I need to go now. See you in a week. Remember, use this week wisely if you really want to become strong. I hope you words are not in vain."

"..."

I waited on the same spot until Ember was out of my sight. After I confirmed she was gone. I let out a sigh of relief.

*Haa*

'I thought I messed up this one for sure. Who knew Ember would be my homeroom teacher? If I had told her a random name, that would bring up unnecessary suspicion towards me. I am glad I didn't fake my name.'

I was exhausted after all this talk and thinking. Therefore I just left for my room.

---------------------------------------------------

'Interesting'

Ember thought back at the talk between her and the boy called Theodore Miller. Not many students can resist her charm, but he didn't even get distracted for once. Even some fourth year students can't hide their lustful eyes from her, but for some reason, she didn't even feel a speck of lust from Theodore.

On another note, she was very satisfied by his behavior and mentality. It was reasonable that she thought that way since most of the students who enrolled into the academy felt satisfied with themselves. They thought it was enough to prove their worths just by being able to get into the academy. Thus doing nothing to improve themselves further.

The majority of the students in the academy were from noble background. She thought the children of the nobles were so care-free and arrogant. Since they were raised in a protective environment, they didn't know the danger behind those tall walls built by their parents. Their arrogance often got the better of them.

But that was wrong. At least Ember thought that way. For her, in order to show that you was worth investing in, you first have to show your eagerness to get stronger. However, the cruelty of reality is harsh. Without the talent, even the strongest will is meaningless.

"Theodore Miller... You may have will. But do you have the talent to back it up?"
