True Friendship

The two friends walked arm in arm, chatting heartily. Though they had separated for several years, their bond was still unbreakable. Words could not describe the depth of their friendship.

Pursing her lips, Sonya said, "Emily, I'm really sorry for what happened back then. I guess I was too paranoid and overthought things."

Emily revealed a genuine smile and said, "It wasn't quite your fault. We were all young and impulsive back then. Anyway, I would totally overthink things if I were in your shoes. There was so much going on in your life at that time."

Indeed, there was so much going on in Sonya's life at that time. Her father, the head of the Butra family was a greedy and heartless man. For the sake of profits, he arranged for Sonya to become a mistress of a disgusting old man. Of course, she refused. But her father still tried to force her into it.

Frustrated, she moved out of the family house and rented a place somewhere she presumed her father would never find her. Unknown to her, he had installed a tracker on her phone. After she moved in, she informed Emily of her location and asked her to visit her. Emily went.

Coincidentally, that was when her father's men had come to take her back home. Realizing her father's men had arrived shortly after Emily, Sonya felt it was simply too much of a coincidence. Furious, she had a big fight with Emily and accused her of joining forces with her father to make her life miserable.

Angrily, both sides left and cut off relations with each other. Shortly after Sonya contacted her maternal family who were based in USA. Her father and mother divorced long ago. Her mother, Cindy Wesleyan was from the affluent and influential Wesleyan family.

She had been deceived by Sonya's father into thinking he loved her and married him against her family's wishes. After five years of marriage, she discovered she had been lied to all that time. Furious, she immediately sort for divorce, dumped her three year old daughter on him and returned to America. She rarely got in touch with her daughter after she left. Afterall she remarried and had children with another man. Why would she bother about the child she had with man who deceived her?

Cindy had taken out all the hatred she had for him on Sonya and therefore disliked her immensely. Sonya on the other hand, wouldn't have seeked help from her maternal family if she had a choice. She had long acknowledged the fact that her mother hated her. But she had no other choice since she had been forced to a dead end.

After Sonya contacted them, she narrated the whole incident to them. Cindy was angry beyond words. No matter what happened Sonya was still her daughter, right? Though she didn't really like this daughter of hers and she didn't want her to fall into the same pit she once fell into. Reluctantly, she agreed to take her in the when Wesleyan family agreed to acknowledge this 'granddaughter' of theirs. After Cindy had been conned, she dared not take decisions on her own.

Just like that Sonya left the country, not taking another look back.
