I used to be an orphan
A child without a dime
Dreamed of working for a fortune
But that took too much time
I took a golden watch from him
He didn't know that I'd been there
But I tripped upon a hollow grim
From the counter, said a prayer
Who's this that leaves without greeting?
Who's this that tests my sympathy?
Who could go so long not eating,
Cheat and walk away with dignity?
He helped me up with his rough hand
And smiled kindly into me
That watch on you is quite grand,
Worth near as much as the whole sea,
You can have it if you look through me,
And tell me all you see.
I closed my eyes and stared at him
He held my gaze closely
There was lots of nothing to swim in
And I feel more full than lonely
