Asking a High Price

Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

As night fell, the players had all come back to Tabarka, and the small town was crowded once again.

Xiao Yu left the game, ate dinner and then came back to the game. He set up his stall to sell the items he had collected. He had 17 white-level equipment items in total, all of them being priced at six silver coins.

As soon as Xiao Yu set up his stall, some players recognized him.

"Didn't he sell items yesterday?"

"How come he has so many items again today?"

"Brother, what is your level?" a player asked.

"Level 6," answered Xiao Yu. He thought this level was rather average.

"What?! What did you say your level was?!"

"Level 6. What's the matter?"

"You're a high-level player! The highest level for the whole Evil Federation is level 7 right now. You're already level 6; you're our idol!" The player had a beam of admiration in his eyes.

Though the highest level for the entire Evil Federation was seven, there were several hundred players at that level.

"I can't be considered a high-level player," Xiao Yu thought.

However, his level was indeed quite high for the players of this small town. The other players were mostly at level 4, with few at level 5.

His white-level items were priced and sold for six silver coins. Though the price was a bit high, it was still within an acceptable price range for the players.

The price set by Xiao Yu affected the prices of the items sold in the small town. Most of the players marked the prices of their items close to Xiao Yu's. Nobody was willing to pay a higher price for those items unless the stats of those items were truly outstanding.

After some thought, Xiao Yu placed the snakeskin armor on the cloth in his stall, but he didn't offer a price for it because he had no idea what an appropriate price would be.

As soon as he put down the green-level snakeskin armor for the soldiers, some players came over to look at it.

"Whoa! It's green-level equipment!"

"Why didn't he put a price for it?"

"Maybe, he doesn't know how much it's worth."

"Yeah, there's no green-level equipment on the market right now."

"He's so lucky that he could find green-level equipment."

The players thought that Xiao Yu had gotten the green-level equipment from a regular monster. Though regular monsters might have green-level equipment, the chance of getting one from them was still very slim.

Some players with sharp eyes saw that the wrist guard and the dagger in Xiao Yu's right hand were all green-level items, and they couldn't help but regard him with admiration. If Xiao Yu only had one green-level item, then that might mean he had a good fortune. However, since he had three green-level items, then that meant he had actual strength rather than luck. He had probably killed one or two monster leaders.

More and more players came over to look at this item for sale, but nobody made an offer. Xiao Yu felt a bit troubled. The fact was that these players didn't have much money in their hands, and most of them couldn't afford it.

But it was a good thing that many players came to his stall to check out the snakeskin armor; he could sell more of his other items faster. When the players saw the items that they wanted in his stall, they simply bought them. Xiao Yu had sold all 17 of his white-level items, and the snakeskin armor was the only item remaining at his stall.

Xiao Yu checked his bag and found he had three gold coins now. Still, that was far from enough to upgrade his skills.

Xiao Yu said to himself that he would go to the auction house in a bigger city to sell the snakeskin armor if he couldn't sell it here. However, it would take him one day to go to a bigger city, meaning that he wouldn't be able to upgrade his skills for an entire day. He felt truly frustrated.

He told himself that he should wait for a little while longer. He would close down his stall if nobody bought it by midnight. As such, Xiao Yu waited patiently at his stall.

"Please let me through."

"Excuse me."

A few players jostled other players standing around Xiao Yu and came before his stall.

Xiao Yu counted them saw that there were five players—a thief, mage, soldier, dark wizard, and a death knight, all of which made up a standard party. When he fixed his sight on these players, Xiao Yu found that these players had two green-level items in total. It seemed that they had killed a monster leader as well.

If a party was interested in his item, then he would be able to sell it.

"Hello, I'm An Yu," the soldier said to Xiao Yu.

"Hi, I'm Xiao Yu," he introduced himself.

Xiao Yu's answer was very succinct. The soldier by the name of An Yu nodded and said, "I'm interested in this item of yours, but I'm not sure how much you would like to sell it for."

Xiao Yu took a look at An Yu. He was about 30 years old and seemed very well put together.

Since the players didn't have a definite notion about this item, Xiao Yu was well aware of the rule of the trade, which was to ask a high price first and haggle later. "Fifteen gold coins," he offered.

Xiao Yu calculated the winnings he had procured in the last two days—about four gold coins in total. The price of 15 gold coins was the price range a party of five players could afford. Though the price was a bit too high, he expected An Yu to haggle.

Upon hearing his offer, An Yu and the other four players eyed each other with a bitter smile, thinking that Xiao Yu was indeed very demanding. They only had 16 gold coins in their bags, which was all they had. Xiao Yu asked for 15 gold coins, indicating that he knew they had this much money in their hands.

"That's too expensive," exclaimed Soldier An Yu. If they spent 15 gold coins, they would end up broke.

"You offer me a price then," said Xiao Yu. He was aware that the price of 15 gold coins was indeed too much. Like those vendors at the market, they might sell an item for 10 yuan even though they initially asked for several hundred yuan; asking a high price first was necessary.

"Eight gold coins, at most," said An Yu. Eight gold coins were already a pretty good offer. Regular players could in no way afford such a price; only a party like theirs could spend that much.
