She turned, her heart skipping a beat, to see Jace standing in the doorway, his arms crossed and a sour expression on his face.
"What did you just say?" Jace asked, his voice low and incredulous.
Grace's mouth went dry. She hadn't heard him come in, and now she was caught in an awkward situation. "I… I was just…"
"You think I'm not handsome?" Jace interrupted, his tone laden with disbelief but one could still detect a hint of amusement if you listened carefully.
"Is that why you've been keeping your distance from me, Grace?"
Grace's eyes widened. "No, sir, that's not what I meant. I was just… I mean, Charles asked if he was handsome and I…"
Jace's expression softened slightly, though his eyes still held a teasing glint. "So you don't think I'm handsome at all?"
Charles' eyes narrowed as he saw how his father was making things difficult for his wonderful nanny. She was even too scared to make a complete sentence.
